The cabin door opened.
Ribs, wearing a black heavy armored bulletproof vest, slowly walked down the ladder.
He had a blank expression on his face and ignored the hellish scene around him as he walked straight towards the main building, the walls of which were riddled with bullet holes.
The target is clear - Morgan's hiding place.
The broken door was useless in front of him.
He stepped over the mess of broken glass and precious ornaments and entered the residence. The corridor was in an equally horrific state, with delicate paintings falling and blood splattered on the wallpaper.
The footsteps echoed in the empty and silent corridor like a death knell.
Finally, he arrived at the door of the grand reception room. The solid wooden door, inlaid with exquisite patterns and representing the highest power in Illinois, was covered with cracks and deep bullet holes.
Without pausing, Reeves reached out and pushed it away.
The heavy wooden door opened slowly with a harsh friction sound.
What came into view was a luxurious space that had also been completely destroyed by the shockwave and debris. The fire in the fireplace was almost extinguished, and the debris of glass, porcelain, and building materials was everywhere.
Governor Morgan slumped on the ground, his expensive suit torn in several pieces, his face covered in ashes and tiny scratches and blood, and his carefully groomed hair in disarray.
The most embarrassing thing was that the sofa fell over and pinned one of his legs, making it impossible for him to get up. His face, which always carried the calmness of a politician, was now filled with boundless fear, despair, and a complete emptiness of having his soul completely drained away.
He saw the figure that seemed to come from the abyss of hell passing through the dense smoke and dust. Fear instantly gripped his heart and he could hardly breathe.
"Reeves! Oh my God! Reeves!" Morgan rolled and crawled to his feet, his voice shrill and distorted, "It's not me! Listen to my explanation! It's really not me! It's all Harold! It's that insidious old guy Harold!"
Reeves's footsteps did not pause at all, and his cold eyes were like two scalpels, clearly dissecting Morgan's ugly appearance at the moment.
"It was Sterling who colluded with the IRS! They had been colluding for a long time!" Morgan spoke incoherently, trying to prove his "innocence". "Sterling has always wanted to investigate a few 'big cases' to climb up! Harold gave him the opportunity and the materials! I... I really wanted to help you! The bureau I set up was real! But I... But I didn't expect them to fall out so quickly! Harold... He lied to me! He lied to you too! His goal is to kill you! He said you threaten the status of all the 'old money'! He is the mastermind! I... I just..."
Morgan's voice stopped abruptly as he met the deep, unwavering gaze of Reeves. There was no anger or excitement in those eyes, only an extreme coldness that saw through everything and was tired of lies.
"Hypocrisy." Ribs squeezed out two words from between his teeth, "You high-ranking officials."
A twisted splinter of mahogany lay at his feet, half the length of an arm, its broken end as hideous as a spear point.
"You're full of talk about morality, order, and rules..." Reeves slowly bent down, his movements so calm and almost elegant, and picked up the heavy, splintered wooden board. "But behind the scenes, you're engaging in the dirtiest deals and the most despicable schemes. What's the difference between you and the thugs who stab people on the street? No, you're even more despicable. At least the thugs admit they're going to rob."
"Where is Eberhardt...?" He weighed the rough and heavy but extremely sturdy "weapon" in his hand, took the last step, and stood completely in front of the governor who was lying on the ground and trembling like a sieve.
Morgan's lips trembled violently, his last instinct for survival overriding everything: "...In the resort...village...East of Lake Michigan...Silver Lake...Private...!"
"Go to hell, you hypocritical officials!"
As the words fell, a cold light flashed in Reeves' eyes! The terrifying power brought by [Body Strengthening] instantly erupted! Without the slightest hesitation, his arm moved as fast as lightning, and he thrust the sharp, thick piece of broken wood in his hand fiercely into Morgan's throat!
Puff! Snap!
The sharp wooden thorns, with terrifying brute force, easily tore through the fragile muscles and larynx!
The broken cervical vertebrae made a dull, tooth-grinding sound! The wooden board penetrated deeply, and the rough wood splinters even scraped the cervical vertebrae!
Morgan's body suddenly arched upward, his eyes bulged out instantly, and were filled with bloodshot.
What gushed out of his throat was not blood, but scarlet foam mixed with bubbles, sticky blood and minced meat!
He wanted to scream, but his trachea was blocked and pierced by the broken wood boards, so he could only make an extremely terrifying "ho...ho..." sound like a broken bellows.
The violent convulsions and spasms of the limbs caused the entire body to bounce and roll violently on the carpet, leaving a sticky and hideous trail of death on the expensive carpet.
Ribs watched the scene expressionlessly, his hands holding the wooden board not even shaking.
He slowly loosened his grip, allowing Morgan to struggle and twitch in vain in a pool of blood with the "weapon" that symbolized his despised power and hypocritical life, his life slipping away quickly.
Soon, the body in the blood-stained shirt stopped twitching and became completely quiet. Only the horrific wound on the neck that was pierced by the rough wood remained, still silently leaking blood.
The once powerful governor of Illinois ended his life in the most primitive and insulting way by the "upstart" whom he once regarded as a pawn but betrayed in a chess game he had a hand in planning.
Reeves lowered his head and looked at his hands which were stained with blood and sawdust.
He didn't wipe it, but just moved his fingers slightly, and the joints made a slight crisp sound.
