Chapter 4 Repairs...

Chapter 4 Repairs...

For Mia, all she needs is a place to live.

Having decided to stay here, Ren Qingsong didn't waste any time. He walked around the house, making a mental note of the areas that urgently needed improvement.

"Miya, I'll go find some people to take care of the yard and the house. You wait here for a while."

Upon hearing that she would have to be alone, Miya's hopeful gaze immediately turned to terror, and she warily surveyed her surroundings.

It's like a little cub suddenly abandoned in a strange territory, afraid of all the risks that may exist from the outside world, and of being abandoned by familiar figures.

Left with no other choice, Ren Qingsong could only take Miya down the mountain to find the soldiers in his own battalion for help.

The soldiers had already learned from others that Battalion Commander Ren's hometown girl had arrived, and they all greeted Miya warmly.

"Commander Ren's sister is our sister." "Hello, sister!"

Hello, little sister!

The enthusiastic shouts startled Miya, who hid behind Ren Qingsong. She had felt somewhat uncomfortable when she entered the military unit because there were just too many men here, so many that she began to feel a little numb to the fear of seeing men from other places.

Ren Qingsong raised his hand to block Miya behind him, and scolded her with displeasure, "Tone it down, don't scare people."

Company Commander Wen Xianfeng quickly stood up straight, saluted with a stern face, and said, "Yes, Battalion Commander!"

Ren Qingsong waved his hand and stated his purpose directly.

"The quartermaster assigned me a house, and I'd like to ask you to help me take care of it."

Are there any vacant apartments in the family compound that can be allocated?

"Leave it to the brothers!"

The two completely different reactions demonstrate just how unexpected the house Ren Qingsong and Miya found was.

When the group climbed up the mountain and saw the dilapidated houses at the top, the soldiers of the First Battalion thought that the logistics department was fooling their battalion commander.

The most furious was Wen Xianfeng, whose life had been saved by the battalion commander on the battlefield. How could he stand by and watch the battalion commander be bullied like this by the logistics personnel?

He threw down the sickle in his hand and turned to walk down the mountain in a menacing manner.

"Those sons of bitches! How dare they bully our battalion commander! I'm going to settle accounts with the logistics department!"

"Stop!" Ren Qingsong heard the noise and immediately turned around to stop the person. "Old Wen, what are you doing?"

"Battalion Commander, they're bullying you!"

"I chose this house myself. I didn't apply in advance. There weren't any vacant houses allocated in the family compound. The one in front of you was specially assigned to me by Minister Qian out of consideration for our relationship. What's the story behind you going to settle scores with someone?"

Ren Qingsong explained everything clearly in one sentence.

Realizing he had misunderstood, Wen Xianfeng scratched the back of his head sheepishly, lowered his head, and dared not meet the battalion commander's gaze.

"Enough with the talk, first help me clean up the house."

At Ren Qingsong's command, everyone immediately got to work.

Especially Wen Xianfeng, who had just done something foolish, took the lead, wielding his sickle like a broadsword on the battlefield, felling rows of tall weeds.

Miya wanted to help, but Ren Qingsong and the others stopped her, so she could only squat at the door and watch helplessly.

Seeing everyone sweating profusely in the early spring, Miya felt guilty if she didn't do something.

Just as Ren Qingsong was cleaning the house, he moved out the chipped earthenware jar and some usable odds and ends.

Miya's eyes lit up when she saw the jar with only a small opening missing. She took off her expensive military overcoat, put on her familiar thin cotton coat, and carried the jar out of the pile of junk.

Following the faint sound of water that lingered in my ears, I found a spring on the mountaintop.

The sound of water she heard earlier was probably the sound of spring water flowing over the rocks. With a water source at the top of the mountain, life would be much more convenient in the future.

The only drawback was that the spring was a bit small. After looking around, Miya immediately took action to expand the space around the spring, creating a water pit that was almost two hands wide.

Following the water source, she also found a lot of fresh wild vegetables.

She gets excited whenever she sees food and picks it along the direction of the water flow.

Before long, my pocket was almost overflowing with fresh, tender wild vegetable seedlings.

Miya looked at her harvest with delight. It wasn't enough to fill them up, but the hot soup was enough for the people who were repairing the house.

After the initial excitement, she looked up and found herself in a forest. Everything around her was unfamiliar, and the quiet forest instilled a sense of fear.

She instinctively hugged the wild vegetables in her arms, looked around, and finally saw the path she had trodden on to get there.

Miya carefully made her way back, and as she passed through the low grass, she suddenly heard the sound of wings fluttering in her ear.

Looking up, I was surprised to see a brightly colored pheasant, its feathers shimmering in the light.

Miya swallowed hard, thinking: How wonderful it would be if I could catch a pheasant.

But as soon as the pheasant flew into the woods, it disappeared without a trace.

Miya stared intently at the spot where the pheasant had disappeared, unable to move for a long time. Just as she was about to leave, she suddenly remembered that there might be other things to be found where the pheasant had just stayed.

Feeling the warmth in my hand, my mouth started watering uncontrollably, and all I could think of was the taste of eggs I had eaten before.

After picking up the six wild eggs from the nest, Miya looked around but found no other wild eggs, so she had no choice but to head back home.

The previously dug water pit is now filled with clear spring water, which can be used to wash wild vegetables.

The wild vegetables in the mountains are fresh and tender, some even still covered in dew, and can be easily cooked with a quick dip.

The most difficult thing to clean was the earthenware pot that hadn't been used for a long time. Miya washed it inside and out, preparing to cook a pot of wild vegetable and egg soup to repay everyone for helping to repair the house.

Everything was ready, except for the flint and steel to start the fire.

Just as Miya was pondering whether to go down the mountain to borrow a fire or to make a fire by rubbing sticks together, Ren Qingsong, who had discovered that Miya had disappeared, anxiously followed Xinsheng's footsteps all the way here.

"Da Ya!"

"Third Brother, I'm here."

Upon hearing the sound, Miya immediately stood up, her hands awkwardly clasped behind her back, not daring to look up and observe Ren Qingsong's expression.

Ren Qingsong walked quickly and stood in front of Miya in the blink of an eye, his voice urgent and full of worry.

"Miya, why are you walking so far alone in an unfamiliar place? What if something happens to you? How am I supposed to explain this to Mom and Dad!"

The words struck Miya like a storm. She wasn't wandering around aimlessly; she just wanted to do something, to become a useful person. Keeping her around wasn't a waste of resources.
