Grandpa Fu smiled and said, "Let's talk about it after we get off work. This requires the whole family to help. I can't do it by myself."
Then he pointed at the pheasants and rabbits to his two brothers and said, "Pick up these little things first."
Fu Yu and Fu Hong carried their prey and sat in the backyard to clean up. They put the rabbit skins out to dry. They could make gloves for the winter, or piece them together to make a vest or something.
The chicken feathers were thrown directly into the stove and burned, and in the end three rabbits and five pheasants were picked out.
I took out a pheasant and a rabbit and prepared to cook them for lunch today, and the rest will be made into bacon and eaten slowly.
There is also pork. After all, there is limited casing on the pig, so it can be used to make some sausages.
The rest can be made into bacon and sent to my second uncle and his family. I remembered the letter I received from Fu Sui two days ago, in which he said he missed the food cooked by Fu Xiao.
It really is a miserable tone.
There were two meat dishes for lunch, but they were too greasy, so I made a light loofah soup. The loofah rack in the backyard was full of fruits, which would go old if I didn't eat them.
After dinner, almost the whole family went out to clean up the pig. Li Xiufen even lit mugwort in the yard to prevent the neighbors from smelling the blood.
Fu Xiao and Li Xiufen were shaving the pig's hair with knives. They had never done this before, so they found it quite new at first. Even after finishing, they felt a little unsatisfied.
The pig's blood was collected in a large basin and placed aside.
The next step is to cut the meat. The pig's head is cut off, and the remaining pig body is cut into small pieces and put into a large bowl.
After that, the yard was full of blood. Li Xiufen poured water and swept the place before the yard was clean.
Li Xiufen did not go to work in the afternoon. She was busy making sausages at home. She washed the casings twice with wood ash, then once with flour and then soaked them in water for a long time.
While the sausage casings were being soaked, a few pounds of meat were cut. The stuffing was prepared by Fu Xiao, who added a lot of seasonings from later generations. Because the pig was raised drinking spiritual spring water, no spiritual spring water was added to the stuffing.
Li Xiufen was in charge of the sausage making, while Fu Xiao sprinkled seasonings on the remaining meat and marinated it with onions, ginger and garlic, preparing to make bacon.
After the sausages are prepared, they are steamed once and then dried in the sun.
The meat was almost done marinating, so we took it all out to the backyard in the sun.
Grandpa Fu also moved the place where he basked in the sun from the front yard to the back yard. After all, someone had to look after so much meat, otherwise it would be a shame if it was taken away by wild cats or something.
Take it outside to dry in the sun when there is sunshine, and put the meat in the warehouse at night.
After three days, although the bacon was not completely cooked, it was almost dried.
In the backyard, Fu Xiao pinched the bacon with his hands, turned his head to look at Grandpa Fu next to him, and asked: "Grandpa, this bacon is so hard now, can it be mailed?"
Grandpa Fu was lying on a recliner, fanning himself without raising his head. "Let them air dry for another half a month before sending them. The house they live in in the northwest is different from our hometown. There is no yard. If we send it too early, they will have no place to dry it. Let's wait a little longer."
"Oh," Fu Xiao walked over to Grandpa Fu and sat down, smiling and saying, "Grandpa, have you been to the northwest?"
Grandpa Fu picked up the fan and patted her head gently. "When your second aunt gave birth to Fu Sui, I went there with your grandmother. People in the city all wanted to live in high-rise buildings. In my opinion, what's so good about high-rise buildings? They are not spacious at all, and there is not even a yard."
"The whole family is crammed together like living in a pigeon coop, and we don't even know the neighbors. It's boring for me to stay with your grandma. Your second aunt is back after her confinement."
"That was more than ten years ago. My second uncle and his family should have reallocated the house by now..."
Grandpa Fu snorted coldly, "Even if I changed houses, it's still the same as moving from a small cage to a big cage. There's no difference. No place is better than home."
Fu Xiao smiled. In fact, she didn’t like buildings very much. The buildings nowadays were very different from those in the future.
Not to mention the size of the building area, the layout and the comfort level inside, I have seen them in the county town. Some of the slightly better places have toilets in the rooms, most of which are public toilets, and even the kitchen is shared with neighbors at the door.
In the end, she felt that a bungalow with a yard was better.
She turned to look at Grandpa Fu and said softly, "Grandpa, what kind of person is my grandma?"
"Your grandmother..." Grandpa Fu said with a nostalgic tone: "She was a very capable old lady."
He turned to look at Fu Xiao and said with a smile: "Your grandmother likes girls the most. If she were still alive, she would definitely like you the most... She just has a bad fate."
"When I was young and hadn't retired yet, she was the only one who took care of your uncles and the whole family. I finally came back, and your uncles had grown up, got married and had children. It was time for them to enjoy their lives, but she left early."
Seeing that Grandpa Fu was in a bad mood, Fu Xiao hurried forward to comfort him and appropriately changed the subject.
Back Mountain,
"Brother Chen?...Why are you here?"
Seeing the man behind the tree, the man with a scar on his face and a scary look, he threw away the cigarette in his hand and walked towards him.
A man came out from behind the tree. His handsome face was indifferent and his eyes were cold. He looked at the scarred man and said coldly, "You are good at hiding. I have been looking for you for a long time."
The scarred man laughed, "Brother Chen, I have a mission. I learned these two days that the little girl likes to pick herbs, so I thought of waiting here and killing her in this mountain. Brother Chen, you haven't told me yet, why are you here..."
