Chapter 5 Chapter 5 "Trouble."
Outside the house, Zhang Shuanghu listened to his niece's explanation, but his frown did not relax.
He didn't care whether she was a noble person or not, but she was an unmarried girl living in the house, and the presence of an adult man was bound to cause gossip.
"Uncle, the village elder sent someone to the city to call a doctor yesterday. As long as you are not killed, you will not stay here for long." Zhang Jingxian looked at her uncle who was thinking about her, her eyes clear, hiding the longing she hadn't seen for a long time.
Her uncle had said the same thing to her before, but she was soft-hearted and convinced him with other reasons.
If she were to experience it again now, she would be obedient and continue to live a quiet and ordinary life on her own.
After hearing this, Zhang Shuanghu finally felt relieved. Ah Xian was kind and would certainly not stand by and watch someone die if they were seriously injured.
He asked, "Is your leg injured?"
"Well, I injured my muscles and bones and can't walk for the time being."
Zhang Jingxian knew all too well the injuries Xie Yun had suffered. In her previous life, she had racked her brains to restore his legs bit by bit, and the effort she had put in was immeasurable.
But this time, she wouldn't foolishly approach him. He was a scion of the noble Xie family, the renowned Marquis of Changling, and had an uncle who was the Prime Minister. As long as he could save his life, when his trusted aides found him in the future, there would be countless famous doctors who could heal his legs.
"I stayed here to wait for the village elder and the doctor. It has been raining these days. Have you gone to the fields to check?" Zhang Shuanghu is also a kind-hearted person, otherwise he would not have taken the initiative to take back his little niece when he learned that his ex-brother-in-law had remarried.
As it turned out, he made the right decision.
For more than ten years, the Yang family of Dongshan Village ignored Ah Xian. Only when the head of the village distributed the land according to regulations, their family showed up and wanted to take away Ah Xian's twenty acres of land.
Of course Zhang Shuanghu refused to give in. He led his men to severely intimidate his ex-brother-in-law and changed his niece's surname to Zhang. Only then did the dispute end.
However, because the Yang family had made a fuss, the village head gave Ah Xian the twenty acres of land that no one wanted.
When Zhang Shuanghu thought of this, he got angry. Only half of the twenty acres of land was at the foot of the mountain, and the other half was in the deep mountains where few people went.
Faced with her uncle's questioning, Zhang Jingxian lowered her head guiltily. She preferred hunting to farming.
She was close to the fields at the foot of the mountain and had taken care of them a few times, but the field in the middle of the mountain had grown lush weeds due to neglect, and there were countless rabbit holes and vole holes.
She simply did the opposite, sowing a handful of beans and then not asking about it anymore. Instead, she would occasionally catch rabbits and dig out field mice. She kept the rabbits for herself and fed most of the field mice to the black cat and a red fox in the mountains.
"If you don't want to get married yet, you should prepare a bushel of millet and wheat early this autumn."
"Uncle, I understand. I've already made an agreement with the villagers. They'll give me millet and wheat in exchange, just like they did two years ago."
The conversation between the uncle and nephew came into Xie Yun's ears intermittently. He narrowed his eyes slightly and understood why the uncle of the peasant girl had asked that question just now.
If a girl doesn't marry at the age of seventeen, she has to pay a fine. She has been paying for two years and is now nineteen years old.
It is understandable that relatives are anxious.
Xie Yun's reaction to this was normal. He was twenty-four and still unmarried. Being unmarried at nineteen wasn't a big deal to him, but it was something he could start with.

Zhang Shuanghu walked into the house again, became much friendlier towards Xie Yun, and apologized for his previous rudeness.
Xie Yun smiled at him politely and said that she didn't mind at all. "You are my wife's elder, and your concern for her is touching."
Zhang Shuanghu's expression softened at his words. He had seen the world in his youth. Every noble family was arrogant and domineering, and they treated the common people like dirt under their feet.
In any case, this noble man's attitude is quite appealing.
He was about to ask Xie Yun if he needed any help when he heard an anxious voice outside the house calling him "father".
Zhang Shuanghu heard that it was his second son calling him loudly, and walked out quickly.
"Father, mother asked you to come home quickly." Zhang Rulin walked into the small courtyard surrounded by the fence breathlessly. Seeing his father and his elder sister coming out of the kitchen, he told them the reason for his visit with a look of shame on his face.
Zhang Jingxian immediately understood that her aunt must have known about her uncle's movements and sent her cousin to call her uncle back home.
She waved her hand nonchalantly, telling her uncle not to worry about her, and turned back to the kitchen.
Looking down at the dried rabbit meat stewed in the ceramic jar, her eyes dimmed.
I don’t know when my aunt will forgive her.
Zhang Jingxian was unwilling to go against her conscience and marry her cousin whom she regarded as her own brother, even though her aunt knelt down and begged her again and again.
Her aunt resented her for this and drove her out of the house, and also forbade her uncle and others to have any contact with her. Although Zhang Jingxian accepted it calmly, she was still sad in her heart.
After the rabbit soup was ready, she ate it with steamed wheat cakes for breakfast with a dull attitude, and then placed the rice porridge with rabbit meat and wheat cakes in front of Xie Yun.
"My lord, this is breakfast. It's a bit simple, I hope you don't mind."
After she finished speaking, she left quietly and went to the yard without waiting for Xie Yun to answer.
Xie Yun drank the meat porridge slowly and leisurely, and he didn't even touch the other two coarse wheat cakes. Fortunately, the taste and quantity of the meat porridge were good, and he felt a little better.
Looking out the window of the room into the yard, his dark eyes were fixed on the woman's figure.
Zhang Jingxian was watering the vegetables planted in the backyard and pulling out the weeds growing next to the bean sprouts one by one. Soon her face was red from the sunlight.
When the sun rose a little higher, she went to her treasure house to find the tools and carried them to the front yard which was shaded by the trees.
Xie Yun's gaze moved from one bamboo window to another. He watched the peasant girl gesture on the ground with a branch, and then busily brought wood and hemp rope, not knowing what she was going to do.
But slowly, he saw some clues. She seemed to be trying to make a high and narrow couch.
Unknowingly, an hour passed, and Xie Yun overturned his previous guess. It was not a small couch, but a sedan chair that could only accommodate one person.
He suddenly understood her intention and sneered.
The peasant girl worked all morning just to carry him out of her home.
Xie Yun's face was gloomy. A yellow warbler flew in silently and took a bite of the dry and hard wheat cake while he was not paying attention.
He lowered his eyes and pinched its wings with his fingers when the oriole boldly took a second peck.
The oriole was frightened and screamed.
Xie Yun noticed from the corner of his eye that the peasant girl stood up and walked into the room. He calmly loosened his fingers, and the petite and beautiful yellow oriole escaped and hurriedly flew back to the bird's nest on the peach tree.
However, in revenge, it pecked the back of the human's hand.
The moment Zhang Jingxian saw the yellow warbler fly away in a hurry, she walked into the house in a daze. Then she heard Xie Yun say to her with a smile, "Was that the bird my wife raised just now? Its voice is pleasant, but it pecks people and is a bit fierce."
He stretched out the back of his hand, and a slightly red mark was clearly visible.
…
Zhang Jingxian was silent. Huang Ying was gentle and had never pecked anyone, but the marks on the back of his hand did look like they were caused by Huang Ying. She had no choice but to take out the homemade medicine powder with "great fear and trepidation".
"If your Excellency feels any pain, you can sprinkle some on it."
"I have received your life-saving grace, my lady, and I am unworthy of your honor. From now on, my lady can call me Langjun, or Qilang."
Xie Yun took the powder in the gourd from her hand, sniffed it casually, and spoke in a gentle voice.
"Okay, my dear."
Of course Zhang Jingxian wouldn't call him Qillang, as it sounded too intimate.
"I saw my wife busy in the yard for a long time. I wonder what she was doing." Hearing that she chose to call him husband, Xie Yun raised a faint smile on his face. He didn't look like he was enduring any pain.
"It's... a chariot I devised myself. My dear, your legs are injured and you can't walk. So I thought, if I install two sliding wooden wheels under the chariot, you don't have to stay on the couch all the time and can go out to look around."
Zhang Jingxian paused and answered him truthfully.
The chirping of birds could be heard again outside the house, still melodious and beautiful.
Hearing this, Xie Yun moved his fingertips, the smile on his face disappeared, and his expressionless face looked a little cold.
"So that's how it is."
He murmured softly to the ordinary peasant girl in front of him.
"Trouble you."
