The people were full of complaints and sighs of despair.
"In this freezing weather, they actually asked us to build city walls."
"Can this city wall be built well in winter?"
"Grand Marshal, this is treating the lives of our people as worthless."
"I have never heard of any place building city walls in the dead of winter, when it is windy and snowing."
"The higher this city wall is built, the higher it will fall down in the future."
Among the crowd of civilians, soldiers patrolled back and forth with leather whips.
If their complaints were heard by the patrolling soldiers, they would be in big trouble.
"You son of a bitch, spreading heresy and misleading the public."
"Dare to speak ill of the commander-in-chief behind his back."
"I think you bunch of charlatans have a death wish."
"Beat them to death!"
The whip cracked and lashed at the people.
Each lash of the whip would leave these people with torn and bleeding skin.
"Hurry up, everyone! The commander-in-chief said that the height of the city wall must be increased by ten feet within 30 days."
"Anyone who slows down the project will be beheaded and their head displayed to the public."
When these people heard this, how could they dare to refute it?
They could only curse him behind his back.
...
The Marshal's Mansion.
Chen Jianghe sat down in front of Murong Chui: "General, our lord said he doesn't need these silver notes, he wants real silver."
Murong Chui: "With this silver note, you can exchange it for silver anywhere."
"Then the 5.1 million tael silver notes are 5.1 million taels of silver."
Chen Jianghe smiled coldly: "The commander still doesn't understand what my lord means. Let me say it again, my lord wants silver, not banknotes."
Murong Chui quickly stretched out his hand: "You can have silver notes or silver if you want, just make it clear later."
“My lord’s meaning is very clear: he only wants the money and doesn’t want the silver notes anymore. However, if you are willing to give me silver notes, I don’t mind accepting them.”
"Since your lord doesn't want the silver notes, give me those silver notes worth 5 million taels of silver."
Before Murong Chui could finish speaking, Chen Jianghe burst into laughter: "The money for the movie tickets is in my lord's hands. If you want silver notes, go ask my lord for them."
Oh, I forgot to tell you. My lord also asked me to bring you a gift this time.
Chen Jianghe took a small box out of his sleeve.
When Murong Chui saw the small box, his heart skipped a beat.
"This is your son's other finger. Our lord said there's nothing to discuss with you. You'll have to give him ten million taels of silver for both of these."
We only want silver, not banknotes.
Murong Chui was furious when he saw the finger and slammed his fist on the table.
With a loud bang, he smashed the table to pieces.
"You guys are really bullying us."
"You're chopping off one of my son's fingers at a time. If you keep doing this, how can my son survive?"
Chen Jianghe smiled slightly; there was no need for him to get angry with the other party.
"General Murong, I am merely a messenger. Whether you do it or not is your business."
"Guards! Guards!" Murong Chui roared. "Arrest him and chop him into pieces to feed the dogs."
A dozen or so people rushed in quickly.
They drew their swords and faced each other.
Chen Jianghe sneered: "The commander-in-chief may want to chop me up and feed me to the dogs, but after that, I think my lord will probably chop off your son's head."
Upon hearing this, Murong Chui slumped back into his chair.
He simply couldn't swallow this insult.
"No, no, no." Murong Chui quickly waved his hand, signaling the wolf guards who had rushed in to retreat.
"I definitely can't raise ten million taels of silver in a short time."
"That's not something I need to worry about. As long as my lord hasn't received the money, he'll chop off your son next, but I don't know which part."
Murong Chui's face flushed red with anger.
But he had no way to deal with Jiang Tian.
He could only pin his hopes on those wolf guards.
If the Wolf Guards can rescue Murong Xue, then he will have nothing to worry about.
"Mr. Chen, please go and rest first. I'll think of a solution right now."
Chen Jianghe stood up and walked outside.
The butler quickly came in.
"Send a message by carrier pigeon to Murong Jun and Murong Min. Tell them to hurry up and act. If they don't rescue Murong Xue in the next two days, she'll be chopped to pieces."
However, the butler looked terrified.
"What are you standing there for? Go now."
The butler's voice trembled slightly: "The commander just received a message by carrier pigeon; it's a letter from the eldest son himself."
With trembling hands, the steward handed the letter written by Murong Xue to Murong Chui.
Murong Chui was greatly surprised when he saw it.
He never expected that his own son would hurl insults at him in a letter.
Murong Xue's words were incredibly harsh; she cursed Murong Chui's ancestors for eighteen generations.
"This unfilial son actually wrote a letter to scold me." Murong Chui stood up abruptly.
He drew his knife and slashed it fiercely at the table in front of him.
With a snap, the table in front of him was smashed to pieces by Murong Chui.
"This unfilial son, I spoil him too much."
"General, please calm down. Those beasts from the Embroidered Uniform Guard chopped off half of the eldest son's hand and a finger."
The eldest young master has never suffered like this before; he is in great pain.
Only then did he utter such rebellious words.
