The Emperor looked up and found a young man standing in front of him.
He started babbling on and on, which Qi An didn't understand, but he could tell from the old man's expression and condescending tone that the old man was scolding him and treating him like a stranger who had accidentally wandered in.
Qi An kindly explained to him, "I'm from the southern city of X country, I don't know if you've heard of me?"
The Emperor was taken aback at first, then his pupils contracted sharply, and he dropped the wine glass in his hand.
Qi An knew that he could understand the language of country X.
That's normal. After all, their ancestors have coveted the territory of country X for generations. As the highest authority, they must have done their homework and know the language.
The Emperor took several steps back, drew his sword from the wall, and shouted to the guards outside that someone had broken in.
Qi An stood calmly without moving, watching as the old man called out repeatedly, but no one came in to check.
The old man stared wide-eyed in disbelief. Through the wooden lattice window, he could clearly see at least several dozen armed imperial warriors standing guard in the courtyard.
Normally, these people would immediately come to obey his orders at the slightest sound, but at this moment, it was as if they had all gone deaf. No matter how loudly he shouted, not a single one of them responded.
It was as if... he wasn't in the same space as them.
The Emperor stared in horror at the young man, pointing his sword at him. This time, he finally spoke in words that Qi An could understand.
"Who are you... how did you get in?"
As the Emperor, his residence was the safest place in the entire empire, guarded by an iron barrel, so that not even a fly could get close to him.
But now, a living person has appeared in front of him without him even noticing.
It was utterly unbelievable that even the samurai outside couldn't hear him.
Qi An took two steps forward, which startled the old man so much that he took several steps back until he was pressed tightly against the wall.
"How I got in is not important; what's important is what I'm here for."
With a smile, Qi An asked, "Your Majesty, why don't you ask me what brings me here?"
The Emperor's lips moved, but he did not speak.
Is that even a question?
He knew perfectly well what had happened in the southern city of country X, and was even proud of it.
He didn't think his troops had done anything wrong, and even planned to reward the high-ranking officers who had given the order to massacre them.
In his view, those people from country X had no reason to live anyway, since the entire country of X would soon belong to their empire. Such swift and decisive measures would only hasten their fear of them.
The army will surely advance with unstoppable momentum.
In his mind, country X was a vast and resource-rich land, yet it had been occupied by a group of cowardly East Asian weaklings for generations, which was a complete waste of its resources.
His people are all born warriors, but they are limited by their geographical location and can only huddle on this small island. How can he tolerate this?
Now, most of country X has fallen under their guns, and the bacteriological laboratory has made a major breakthrough. He is about to accomplish what his ancestors have always dreamed of.
But the young man in front of me said he was from Nancheng, X country.
Does he still need to ask about his purpose?
No matter how arrogant he is, he wouldn't believe that the people of country X are here to thank him.
Seeing the old man's expression of being on high alert yet remaining silent, Qi An gradually suppressed his smile.
"Looks like you know why I'm here, you old beast. Do you have any last words?" Qi An asked coldly.
The Emperor, terrified, calmed down instead. "Young man, don't speak so confidently. If you kill me, you won't survive either."
He coaxed patiently: "I can give you anything you want—money, power, I can even let you join the empire and become a general. Country X is beyond saving. You're so young, why ruin your future?"
Ata laughed so hard he rolled on the floor. "My god, there's some old idiot here trying to use his meager money and power to seduce the ancient demon king!"
This is an insult to the king.
Qi An scoffed: "You're so confident you can take over Country X?"
The Emperor proudly raised his chin: "Of course. The warriors of the Empire are indestructible and invincible. How could those cowards of X country stop them? They can do nothing but be slaughtered."
"I'm not afraid to tell you, we already have a secret weapon, and country X will soon be completely finished."
The Emperor's eyes lit up with excitement at the thought of the germ warfare that was about to begin.
Qi An placed the sealed box he was carrying on the table, opened it, and the Emperor stared at him warily.
Qi An pointed to the contents inside and said, "Is this the secret weapon you mentioned?"
"How could... how could these be in your hands?" The Emperor was so shocked that he was incoherent. Then he thought of an even more terrifying question.
How is his bacteriology lab doing?
Where are their empire's top scientists?
Before he could ask, Qi An "kindly" answered him, "I burned down the lab. As for those crazy people in white coats, they've already gone down to wait for you."
The Emperor's eyes widened in disbelief, still unable to comprehend it: "Impossible..."
Qi An picked up a sample from the experiment and brought it closer to him: "Don't believe me? No problem, just try it yourself and you'll see."
"What's wrong with your subordinates? They always boast about how loyal they are to you, but when they produce something good, they don't even offer it to you right away. Instead, they let those cheap people from country X use it first. They deserve to die."
"Oh, right, I forgot to mention, this is what's left. I gave the rest to the Japanese soldiers in the south for dinner. How can we let outsiders benefit from food made by our own people?"
The old man's veins bulged, and his bloodshot, sinister eyes stared intently at Qi An.
Qi An said considerately, "You're the only one who hasn't tried it yet, so I specially brought it here for you to try. Come on, open your mouth, don't be shy."
Has their own army been infected with these things?
It's over.
With his hopes dashed, the Emperor could no longer contain himself. He roared and swung his katana at Qi An, who dodged the blows like a monkey.
The old man was panting heavily, his sword flashing so fast it left afterimages, but he didn't even touch Qi An's clothes.
Despite the commotion inside, the guards outside remained completely still.
The Emperor drew his sword and rushed towards the door. Once he got out, he would be safe. He was determined to have the samurai tear this man to pieces.
Qi An had had his fill of playing around, and just as the old man's hand was about to touch the door, he teleported over and grabbed the old man's neck.
With another flick of his wrist, he snapped the samurai sword in the old man's hand.
Next, Qi An secured the old man to the chair, crushed his jaw, and poured a full tube of viral liquid into his gaping mouth, while the old man glared at him as if he wanted to devour him.
