Chapter 52 The Cabbage Was Eaten by Bugs

Jiang Xue cut the bamboo into thin strips that were thin at both ends and thick in the middle. She pressed it on the ground and found that the strips had good rebound force, so she continued cutting.

The bow and arrow should be sharpened as flat and smooth as possible. If the preliminary preparation work is done well, a lot of trouble will be saved in the later stage.

Halfway through, just as they were about to finish shaving the bamboo strips and were about to start cutting the grooves, Xiaohua suddenly ran in in a panic, shouting, "Sister Axue, no! Our cabbages have been eaten by bugs!"

Jiang Xue was confused. What season is it now? Why are there still insects?

She quickly put down the bamboo stick in her hand and said, "Don't be anxious, Xiaohua. Tell me slowly. What happened to the cabbage?"

Xiaohua was so anxious that tears came out of her eyes. She said, "I just went to the field and saw that the cabbage leaves over there suddenly had a lot of holes, and some of the cabbages were almost eaten by insects."

When they heard that there was something wrong with the cabbage, everyone in the cave could no longer sit still. They followed Jiang Xue and ran quickly to the vegetable field.

Just one glance and Jiang Xue's heart was broken.

Every time Xiaohua clamored for cabbage, she would just brush it off with a few words, wanting to wait until they were a little bigger before eating them. But now, looking at the cabbage that had been ruined, her heart was bleeding.

She stared at the cabbages with eyes wide open, and just when she was feeling extremely sad, her eyes suddenly lit up.

She said, where did these bugs come from in the middle of winter? They must have been pecked by chickens.

There are chicken feathers next to the cabbage!

She picked up the feathers and found Mufeng, and asked him, "Are there any pheasants near the tribe?"

Mu Feng frowned, thought for a moment, and said, "Yes, quite a few." Mu Feng's eyes rested on the chicken feathers in her hand, his eyes full of pity. The cabbages in the field could be said to be Jiang Xue's hard work, but unexpectedly, Jiang Xue herself didn't want to eat them, and instead let the chickens get away with it. He asked solemnly, "Are you saying that all the cabbages in the field were eaten by pheasants?"

Jiang Xue nodded.

It was easier to deal with it once she knew what the food was, and she suddenly felt less anxious.

The mountains were blocked by heavy snow and people had almost nothing to eat. When the chickens saw so many fresh and tender cabbages, how could they miss them?

"Mufeng, thank you for your hard work these past two days. Please send a few more people to guard here. The weather is cold, so those who come here must dress warmly and don't get cold."

If someone catches a cold, the tribe has her as a ready-made witch doctor, but if it develops into a flu, with so many people in the tribe, she alone will definitely not be able to handle it.

What's more, there are not many herbs in the tribe.

"Then you..." Mu Feng looked at her confident look and asked subconsciously, "Do you have a plan?"

"There's no better way. Now we can only ask more people to come around. Later, if they eat our food, we will naturally ask for some interest back from them."

Whether it was eggs, meat, or even feathers, she wanted them all.

Eggs could be boiled for the children, and meat was a breeze. On a cold day like this, a bowl of fragrant chicken soup was the most satisfying thing. Feathers… while they might not be very useful now, they could be made into shuttlecocks for the tribesmen to kick around in the caves when they had nothing to do. It was a relief for them to spend all day huddled in front of the campfire.

After saying that, Jiang Xue drove everyone away: "Alright, alright, let's all go back. It's just that a pheasant ate some of our cabbage. It's not a big deal."

Xiaohua was still blaming herself for her negligence. She cried and said, "Sister Axue, it's all my fault. If only I had come here earlier."

"What are you thinking? Maybe this is a good thing."

Xiaohua wiped away her tears and said, "Good news? The cabbages were eaten by the chickens, how can it be a good thing?"

"Trust me, this is definitely a good thing." Jiang Xue comforted her, walking side by side with her behind, and suddenly said loudly: "It's useless for everyone to stay here. One or two people here are enough. The others, come back with me to make some things to catch chickens, and then make roast chickens for everyone."

When they heard Jiang Xue wanted to catch a chicken, everyone shook their heads: "Xue Wu, that chicken can fly, and it can fly very high. What are we going to use to catch it?"

"Yes, they also like to fly up the trees. The trees are so high, and once we climb up, they will fly away to who knows where."

"I never thought these chickens would steal the cabbages!"

Everyone shook their heads, expressing regret.

"You'll know what I'm going to use to catch it when we get back." Jiang Xue kept everyone in suspense and walked towards the tribe first.

No matter what, if these chickens dare to mess with her, she will make them pay the price!

What's wrong with being able to fly? Even if you can fly, you will still become your own food in the end, right?

Everyone followed her back to the cave. Jiang Xue stopped making bows and arrows. She picked up the bamboo strips that Asong and the others had broken earlier and started weaving them.

The bamboo strips danced on her fingertips, and soon she had woven a deeper bamboo sieve.

She showed the finished bamboo sieve to Ah Song and said, "Ah Song, make a few more of these according to their shape. I'll use them tomorrow."

Asong agreed immediately.

Although he didn't understand what Jiang Xue was going to do with this thing, since she said it was useful, he would do it.

Not only him, but even the old people who are good at making backpacks have joined this business.

Before Jiang Xue went to bed, they had already made more than a dozen. Seeing that there were so many, Jiang Xue asked them to stop.

The number of bamboo sieves we have now is enough. If we make more, it would be a waste of bamboo.

Besides, the weather is so cold. Although there is a fire in the cave and the temperature is relatively high, you still need to rest when it is time.

The next day, she brought more than twenty people and took a sieve to walk around the cabbage field, and then asked Mu Feng to lead the way to find chickens.
