Chapter 1 Struck by Thunder

beginning of summer.

The weather at noon was not hot, but a little stuffy. Such weather is very rare in the north.

The farmers who were returning home for dinner after work quickened their pace when they heard the muffled thunder. The weather turned cloudy and it looked like it was going to rain.

In the field, four children gathered together and stared at the person lying on the ground.

The youngest child was confused and curious, "Brother Dazhu, why didn't she get up after you pushed her? Did she fall asleep?"

Dazhu glared at the little carrot head and said, "What are you talking about? She obviously fell down by herself!"

The child who was slightly older than Little Radish Head spoke hesitantly, "But she hasn't moved... Could she be dead?"

The five-year-old little carrot head was curious, "What is death?"

“It’s just that you can eat a lot of delicious food.” The seven-year-old third child recalled that the adults seemed to have mentioned death or something, but what impressed him most were the delicious food.

"I want to eat." Eating is the biggest temptation for ignorant children.

Dazhu is already eight years old this year and knows more. Seeing that the little girl couldn't get up no matter how he called her, he bravely pushed her and said, "Hurry up and stop pretending!"

The little girl didn't respond, her body went limp, and she was flipped over by the force.

Now everyone saw the sharp stone behind the stinky girl's head and the dark red bloodstains on the ground.

Dazhu was so scared that he collapsed on the ground.

"Why is she bleeding red?"

Little Radish Head's words attracted the attention of several people. Blood was still oozing out of the stinky girl's hair.

Everyone was frightened when they saw it. The second and third sons shouted "Someone's dead" and stumbled home.

Dazhu was also frightened. When he came to his senses, he stood up with weak legs and ran away with Luobutou, who knew nothing.

Suddenly, there was a loud thunder in their ears, and the extreme white light made Dazhu and Xiaoluotou's eyes go white for a moment.

They couldn't see anything and there was a buzzing in their ears. They didn't know what was happening.

I saw the two people running in front turned around and looked back in fear.

Dazhu and Luobutou looked back curiously, and saw a scene that they would never forget in their lives.

The person lying on the ground was struck by lightning.

The originally messy hair exploded, the skin under the clothes that were torn apart was cracked, white smoke came out of the body, and the air was filled with a faint smell of burning...

"She's burnt." Little Radish murmured emotionlessly.

When Dazhu heard this, he broke out in a cold sweat. He quickly grabbed Little Radish's hand and ran back, howling hysterically, "Someone's dead! Someone's dead!"

Heavy rain poured down, and the cries of several children attracted nearby farmers.

Everyone was already in a bad mood after getting caught in the rain, and when they heard it from a distance, they thought it was just a little brat crying and yelled, "What are you doing making so much noise!"

There were four children present, and they were so frightened that they could not speak clearly.

In the chaos, a sharp-eyed woman saw a baby girl lying on the ground in the distance, "Why is there another one on the ground? It looks like the one from Old Hu's family."

As soon as these words were spoken, everyone's attention was focused on the person lying in the distance.

"Yeah, the clothes really are from Old Hu's family."

"It looks like it's still bleeding!"

Everyone rushed over in a hurry. Hu Xiaoyi felt a chill in his heart when he heard what was said. He rushed over and picked up his daughter. He pulled Hu Lin's hair and found the wound. He saw that it was still bleeding. Hu Xiaoyi felt dizzy.

Hu Chunsheng pushed through the crowd and saw the man. He hurriedly grabbed him and said, "Hurry up and send him to the infirmary!"

Hu Xiaoyi carried his daughter to the village clinic, while Hu Chunsheng looked at the four children who had been yelling, "What's going on?"

The youngest child, Luotou, fainted under Hu Chunsheng's stern gaze. The other three children stammered and kept hiding behind their parents.

The village leader is Dazhu's brother. He stepped forward and said, "Uncle Hu, I think they are all very scared. Why don't we let them go home and wait until Jianya wakes up before asking them."

Hu Chunsheng snorted coldly at this wishy-washy attitude, and the team leader quickly asked everyone to disperse.

Hu Chunsheng went home in the rain and asked his first wife, Li Aihua, to bring food to Hu Xiaoyi. When Li Aihua heard about her daughter's situation, she became weak. Her mother-in-law scolded her, "You useless thing, hurry up."

Li Aihua shivered with fear, then hurriedly took her food, put on her straw raincoat and hat, and ran straight to the village clinic.

The village clinic was as quiet as a chicken at this time. As soon as she entered the door, she anxiously asked how her husband and children were doing.

"The doctor said there's no hope."

"What?"

The food that Li Aihua was holding in her arms fell to the ground.

"Let's prepare for the funeral." Hu Xiaoyi stood up indifferently, went to the inner room, carried his daughter out and went home.

Li Aihua looked at her daughter's head that had been shaved and the back of her head wrapped in gauze, and ran after her, "Impossible, she was fine this morning..."

"Shut up." Hu Xiaoyi turned around and yelled, his bloodshot eyes made Li Aihua panic.

"It's all your fault. You made the little girl pick up dog poop. Otherwise, she wouldn't have died."

The dog feces in the dung dustpan at the scene were soaked by the rain, and it was obvious that the girl was picking up feces along the road before the accident.

"No, it wasn't me." Li Aihua shivered and quietly defended herself, "It was my mother-in-law who asked her to go."

"Don't you know how to stop it?" Hu Xiaoyi still didn't let Li Aihua go.

His only child died and Li Aihua was unable to have children anymore. He took out all his anger on his wife.

Li Aihua fell silent after hearing this. Seeing that Li Aihua stopped talking, Hu Xiaoyi carried Jianya away with his anger still not subsided.

Li Aihua lowered her head timidly and her back bent as well.

How dare she disobey her mother-in-law? He knew that the bitch picked up feces every day. What else could she say when he asked her this?

What should she do now? The bitch is gone, what kind of life is waiting for her?

Will Hu Xiaoyi beat and scold her like her ex-husband did?

*

The whole Hu family was quite surprised to learn that Jian Ya had died.

The couple from the second wife looked at the first wife, who looked lifeless like a defeated rooster, and exchanged glances with calculation in their eyes. The eldest son of the second wife frowned.

The old lady looked disgusted and gloomy.

The couple in the fourth room and the head of the family, Hu Chunsheng, were relatively peaceful.

"Go and announce the death." Hu Chunsheng felt a little distressed when he looked at his eldest son who had suffered a tragic fate.

His previous wife gave birth to a stillborn baby and died of hemorrhage. He then married Li Aihua, who had a big butt and was good at giving birth, but the child she gave birth to also died early.

Perhaps the eldest son is destined to be a lonely widower for the rest of his life.

"Why report a funeral? It doesn't cost money?

Just find a pit and bury her with a straw mat. The dead girl is dead, so why waste money on a coffin?

Don’t they have to pay for food and drink for the whole family? Don’t they have to pay for the children’s schooling? We are living a tight life, and this happened. It’s really unfortunate.”
