"You're such a gluttonous wolf..."
Qin Chuan said this softly, but she still heard it.
She couldn't help but glance at him, blushing as she said, "Who's the insatiable wolf? I think you're the insatiable wolf!"
...
Qin Chuan's reply to Ru Yan was delivered to the Jiangzhou government office by his personal guards the very next day.
"Lord Su! The Prince of Yan has replied!"
Upon receiving the reply, Zhang, the clerk, excitedly entered the signing room and handed the letter to Su Zhiqi.
Surrounding Su Zhi Qiu was a large group of officials dressed in purple or green robes. Upon seeing the Prince of Yan's reply, they began to chatter amongst themselves.
"A letter sent yesterday, and a reply received today? What method did the Prince of Yan use to send the letter back?"
"It's iron horses!" Zhang, the clerk, said breathlessly, "Your Excellency, it was the Prince of Yan's personal guards who delivered it on iron horses."
After hearing what Zhang, the clerk, said with a smile, stroking his beard, "Oh, then that's settled!"
Then, in front of his colleagues, basking in their envious gazes, he opened the letter.
"My lords, this is my son-in-law's reply. Shall we take a look together?"
Although Su Zhi Qiu said this, she did not make any move to circulate the letter.
His colleagues also declined, saying there was no need to read it; it was a letter from the Prince of Yan, how could they possibly read it?
Su Zhi Qiu smiled and could only read the reply by herself.
Aside from the honorifics and greetings, the very first sentence reads:
"If it benefits the country, I will risk my life; how can I avoid it because of personal fortune or misfortune?"
That one sentence left him frozen in place.
Seeing him like this, his colleagues couldn't help but come closer to read the letter. When they saw this sentence, they were all stunned and speechless.
After a long while, they began to whisper among themselves.
"What a wonderful saying, 'If it benefits the country, I will risk my life; how can I avoid it because of personal fortune or misfortune!'"
“The Prince of Yan’s will is as firm as a rock. Now that he has done this, it is unlikely that he will be able to withdraw his decree.”
"Let's disperse, let's disperse!"
Some of the people looked worried, while others looked dissatisfied, as they walked out of Su Zhi Qiu's signing room.
