Chapter 16 Father-in-law Su Zhi Qiu

Qin Chuan was taken aback when Su Ruyan suddenly asked this question. He pondered the possibility of a successful rebellion, since he now had a system that could provide some of the resources needed for the rebellion.

"I was just kidding..." Su Ruyan smiled and pinched Qin Chuan's waist.

Qin Chuan couldn't dodge it and cried out in pain, "Ouch!"

At this moment, Yuan'er came over and conveyed Madam Yan's words.

After delivering the message, Yuan'er prepared to return to the old lady's place, but unexpectedly, Su Ruyan stopped her.

"Miss, is there anything else you need?"

Yuan'er is Su Ruyan's personal maid. Unlike other servants who call her "Fifth Miss", she calls her "Miss" directly.

Su Ruyan gave no instructions, only smiled, and then pointed at Yuan'er, asking Qin Chuan:

"Husband, what do you think of Yuan'er?"

Qin Chuan looked at the maid in front of him and saw that she had bright and intelligent eyes, a dignified and beautiful appearance, and a slender and graceful figure.

He wanted to say "That's good," but he didn't know what Su Ruyan meant, so he simply shut his mouth and said nothing.

But Su Ruyan still saw everything in his eyes.

I don't dislike it.

This was at least certain in Su Ruyan's heart.

"Yuan'er, go ahead."

Su Ruyan waved Yuan'er away, and then continued to enjoy the snow with Qin Chuan. Little did she know that in the dark corridor, another person had been watching the two of them for quite some time.

"Master!" Yuan'er was startled when she bumped into the man and quickly bowed her head to call out.

The man was dressed in a purple official robe, looked to be in his fifties, had a beautiful beard, and piercing eyes. After waving Yuan'er away, he walked over here.

"father!"

Upon seeing this person, Su Ruyan called out.

Qin Chuan quickly bowed and said, "Father-in-law!"

Su Zhi Qiu didn't rush to tell Qin Chuan to get up. Instead, she looked Qin Chuan up and down with deep eyes, as if she wanted to see through him completely.

Qin Chuan didn't know what his father-in-law meant, so he kept his back bent and didn't dare to straighten up.

Su Ruyan was also a little confused by this scene, but she knew her father's temper and didn't dare to speak. She just watched quietly from the side.

Su Zhi Qiu scrutinized Qin Chuan for a long time before finally clearing her throat and speaking in a serious tone:

"The scenery of the Northland is breathtaking: a thousand miles of ice, ten thousand miles of snow..."

"Did you write this poem?"

Upon hearing this, Qin Chuan's tense nerves finally relaxed, and he replied, "Father-in-law, this poem was not written by me, but by a teacher surnamed Mao. I merely wrote it down."

Su Zhi Qiu narrowed her eyes and looked Qin Chuan up and down again, then said:

"I don't recall when Da Gan gained a teacher who could write poetry..."

At this point, he put his hands behind his back and continued reciting the line from the poem, "Such a beautiful landscape has attracted countless heroes to bow down," and exclaimed, "Well written! Full of spirit!"

Qin Chuan dared not say much, obediently bowing his body and maintaining the posture of bowing.

Su Zhi Qiu recited one of the lines, "To find truly great men, look to the present," but then inexplicably let out a cold snort and stared at Qin Chuan: "This poem must never be heard by anyone else again, or it will cost you your life..."

"I understand." Qin Chuan broke out in a cold sweat.

"Get up." Su Zhi Qiu flicked his official robe, his tone softening considerably.

Qin Chuan returned to his natural state, and his body immediately felt much more relaxed.

Next, Su Zhi Qiu questioned Qin Chuan about his family background, but Qin Chuan had limited memories of his predecessor's family history, including what his father was like. He only vaguely remembered that his father loved to drink and eventually drank himself to death.

Su Zhi Qiu's eyes told Qin Chuan that she was clearly dissatisfied with his vague answer.

Su Zhi Qiu then turned his gaze to his beloved daughter, Su Ru Yan, who looked at her father and said, "Father, have you heard the rumor about a child prodigy surnamed Qin...?"

"The Qin prodigy you mentioned, who could compose poetry at the age of six and was famous throughout Jiangnan... could it be him?" Su Zhi Qiu's eyes widened in surprise as she pointed at Qin Chuan.

Su Ruyan linked arms with Qin Chuan, a smug look on her face: "That's right, it's him!"

"Oh? Is that so?" Su Zhi Qiu's stern face finally broke into a smile: "Hehe, hehe..."

...

Qin Chuan couldn't find any memories of his predecessor's childhood in his mind. It seems that his predecessor's background is also a mystery, but it doesn't matter anymore.

Judging from the smile on Su Zhi Qiu's face, he was satisfied with his son-in-law, or at least didn't object to him...

Su Zhi Qiu wanted to ask something more, but a maid came to call her for a meal.

"Let's go, let's get some food!"

Su Zhi Qiu led Qin Chuan and Su Ru Yan to the Su family banquet hall for dinner. In this world, dinner is called "having a meal," and dinner is not eaten after dark, but usually around four or five o'clock in the afternoon.

For official families like the Su family, the ceremony would take place a little later, sometimes after dark.

People here typically eat two meals a day, and rarely three meals a day.

Even a family of officials like the Su family was no exception.

However, the Su family's meals were indeed excellent, with plenty of meat and fish, as well as some wild game that Qin Chuan had never tasted in his previous life.

At the table, Qin Chuan focused on eating and said very little, while his third brother-in-law, Xu Mu, was much more tactful and said a lot of things to warm up the atmosphere.

Madam Yan is a vegetarian, but she ate at the same table as everyone else. When she mentioned that Qin Chuan had saved her life, Su Zhi Qiu glanced at Qin Chuan with a mixture of gratitude and surprise in her eyes. Seeing that he was just focused on eating and did not want to take credit for it, Su Zhi Qiu's eyes showed a hint of approval and appreciation.

Su Ruxue seemed unable to bear hearing everyone praise Qin Chuan, so she quickly changed the subject: "Mother, next month is your sixtieth birthday, and all of us children will come to see you. Eldest sister will also be back!"
