Chapter 34 The Death of the Old Man

"Eunuch Zhang, don't you find this matter suspicious?"

On the deck, Qin Chuan asked Zhang Cheng.

Zhang Cheng looked puzzled: "Young Master Qin, what's strange about this?"

Qin Chuan glanced into the distance, then put his hands behind his back and said, "Along this journey, who hasn't kept their distance from the imperial banners? Even the most reckless bandits wouldn't dare approach them. Tell me, what makes an ordinary fishing boat dare to ram our vessel?"

Zhang Cheng lowered his head and thought about it. It really made sense. Although the royal guard he brought this time was only forty people, everyone who saw them on the way had kept their distance. How could this small fishing boat have the audacity to ram into them?

Just to extort money?

It's probably not that simple.

Qin Chuan turned around and asked Zhang Cheng, "Where is the old man's body?"

Zhang Cheng asked the guards and learned that the old man's body had been placed in a cabin at the stern of the ship where miscellaneous items were stored.

"Take me to see it."

Zhang Cheng walked in front, Qin Chuan followed, and four guards followed behind.

As Qin Chuan passed by his cabin, he saw that Jiang Yun'er was still inside. He slowed down and asked Zhang Cheng, "Eunuch Zhang, in this world, are there any martial arts masters who can fly over rooftops and walk on walls?"

Zhang Cheng smiled, wondering why Qin Chuan had asked such a question, but still replied, "There are no martial arts masters in this world, let alone those who can fly over rooftops and scale walls. Young Master Qin is joking."

"Are there any skilled assassins or similar figures?"

“Well… there really is,” Zhang Cheng said with a slightly serious expression. “An assassin once entered the palace, trying to kill His Majesty, but before he could even reach the imperial bedchamber, he was crippled by the imperial guards with clubs.”

Qin Chuan smiled, relieved.

It's good that there are no martial arts masters; we don't need to be afraid of that woman in the cabin anymore.

As they were talking, Qin Chuan and Zhang Cheng arrived at the stern of the boat.

The guards carried out the old man's body. Qin Chuan looked closely and saw that the old man's face was black, which did not look like he had drowned. Because if someone drowns, their face would be white, not black.

"I suspect that the old man did not die from choking on water, but was murdered beforehand."

Hearing Qin Chuan's words, Zhang Cheng was startled. He slowly squatted down, carefully examined the old man's face, and said, "Strange, why is his face black..."

"Judging from these signs, he should have died from poisoning..." Qin Chuan said calmly.

"How can you prove that he died of poisoning just because his face was dark?" Zhang Cheng asked, puzzled.

Qin Chuan glanced at the guards on either side: "Which of you dares to step on the corpse?"

Without a word, the guard on the left stomped twice on the corpse's chest, and a stream of black blood flowed from the corpse's mouth...

Zhang Cheng then believed Qin Chuan's words and exclaimed in surprise, "He really was poisoned!"

“That’s right. Although I don’t know what kind of poison this is, but…” Qin Chuan paused slightly, his tone becoming more stern, “There must be something fishy about this!”

"You suspect that woman did it?" Zhang Cheng asked in surprise.

Qin Chuan nodded: "That's right, that's what I think too."

Zhang Cheng shook his head and said, "How could that be? That woman is the old man's granddaughter."

Qin Chuan gave a cold laugh and spread his hands, saying, "Who can prove it?"

Zhang Cheng's eyes widened in surprise and he gasped, "You mean... her identity... is fake?"

Qin Chuan did not answer the question, after all, he could not be certain that Jiang Yun'er's identity was fake.

Just then, a guard handed a note to Zhang Cheng. Zhang Cheng glanced at it, sneered, and then handed it to Qin Chuan. Qin Chuan saw that the note read: "Jiang Yun'er died of tuberculosis three years ago."

This information about "Jiang Yun'er's" background was recently obtained from the government. Unexpectedly, Jiang Yun'er is already dead. So, what about the person in the cabin...?

"What should we do with this fake Jiang Yun'er?" Zhang Cheng asked.

Zhang Cheng now greatly admires Qin Chuan's talent. He never expected that the fake "Jiang Yun'er" would be exposed by Qin Chuan so quickly. But what is the purpose of this fake "Jiang Yun'er" doing all this?

Was it to get close to Qin Chuan and assassinate him?

Obviously not. If that were the case, she should have done it in the cabin earlier...

Zhang Cheng didn't think he had the brains to figure out the answer, so he pinned his hopes on Qin Chuan.

"Tie her up first, then I'll interrogate her properly!" Qin Chuan said.

Zhang Cheng glanced at the guards, signaling them to do as he was told…

A moment later, a woman's screams could be heard coming from inside the cabin—

"What are you doing! Let me go!"

"You killed my grandfather, are you going to kill me too?"

"Aren't you members of royalty? How can you be so unreasonable!"

Qin Chuan entered the cabin and saw that "Jiang Yun'er" had been bound hand and foot, like a rice dumpling...

"Jiang Yun'er" tried to struggle, but the rope tightened more and more, making her curvaceous figure look sexy and alluring in a bondage game...

"Qin Chuan! Let me go!"

Upon hearing "Jiang Yun'er" suddenly call out his name, Qin Chuan's eyes flashed with a cold light as he stared intently at "Jiang Yun'er": "How do you know my name? Tell me! What is your purpose?"

"Jiang Yun'er" paused for a moment, realizing she had misspoke, and quickly put on a pitiful act, her eyes brimming with tears, and said, "Master, what exactly do you want? What have I done wrong..."

Qin Chuan took two steps forward, glaring at her, and said, "I'm not some kind of master. You already know my name, so you must know who I am. Speak! Why did you kill the old man? What are you plotting?"
