Chapter 12 Secret Passage

"We eliminated more than 120 zombies in the west." Ever since Wei Xiyin called those monsters zombies, everyone around her seemed to have accepted this term.

Wei Xiyin nodded and said, "Have a good rest tonight, and we will return to the fort tomorrow."

"yes!"

Wei Xiyin asked someone to count the number of zombies killed by the villagers today, and those who received food rewards could redeem them after returning to the dock.

Wei Lang stood beside his sister and saw the villagers lining up to return their knives. The returned weapons were piled on the ground by the guards and left unattended.

He glanced guiltily at his sister who was talking to Chang Ying. Seeing that no one was paying attention, he quietly walked over, picked up a long knife, ran to the side alone, and started swinging the knife, imitating the movements of those people.

Seeing him slashing with his sword, a guard stepped forward to correct him, "Erlang Jun, you should swing your sword at an angle so that it can penetrate the zombie's head."

The guard said as he demonstrated by waving his sword.

Wei Lang found it amusing, so he watched the guard's movements and repeated them, and this time his movements were extremely standard.

"Erlangjun is really smart."

Wei Lang was very excited by the guard's praise. This was the first time he had received sincere praise from others.

After playing for a while, Wei Lang felt a little hungry, so he quietly put the knife back in its place and ran to Ningshuang to ask for some bread.

Chang Ying took in everything and couldn't help but exclaimed: "It seems that Erlang Jun has a talent for martial arts."

Wei Xiyin also saw what happened just now and was very shocked.

Because Wei Lang was mentally retarded, his family never allowed him to touch knives at home, fearing that he would hurt himself. They also never thought of letting him try martial arts.

The world is in chaos now, and it would be a good thing if he could have military force to support him.

Chang Ying began to ask about the business, "Girl, we are still unsure about the situation inside the fort. Are we going back directly tomorrow?"

The fort is surrounded by rivers and has only a drawbridge leading to the gate. If no one inside opens the door, they will not be able to enter the fort at all.

This is probably what everyone is most reluctant to face. If no one answers the door, you can imagine what the situation is inside.

But they must prepare for the worst and leave a way out for themselves and the people behind them.

"I remember that the master has a hot spring villa in Qinghe County. It's rarely visited, so there shouldn't be any monsters there." Chang Ying suggested, "If we can't enter the fort, we can take the people there to stay temporarily."

Wei Xiyin glanced at Chang Ying meaningfully, "No need, just go back directly."

It seems that Chang Ying didn't know that there was a secret passage in the fort.

It was quite normal. Although Chang Ying was one of his grandfather's most trusted confidants, the secret passage concerned the survival of the family, and originally only a few elders and the eldest son of the family knew about it.

Family secrets are usually passed down to men, not women. In the eyes of the world, daughters will get married sooner or later and will eventually become outsiders.

As for how she, a woman, knew this, it was naturally because her grandfather told her personally.

Wei Xiyin was born with memories of her past life, and she behaved differently from ordinary children since she was young. When other children were crying and asking to be held, she thought they were childish and never wanted to be held. When other children were clamoring to go out to play, she was already able to stay quietly by herself for a whole day.

Her family noticed her abnormality very early on, but they thought she was just precocious and didn't think much of it.

Until one day, the Hexi dike broke and a flood occurred. My fourth uncle who worked in Hexi was implicated, and my grandfather was worried about how to rescue them.

Wei Xiyin, who was only five years old at the time, said casually, "What does the flood dam breach have to do with my fourth uncle? They built a cofferdam to protect the foundation pit, but didn't divert the river. It naturally couldn't withstand a heavy rain. This is clearly the fault of that Cao." The Cao refers to the court's Grand Marshal Cao Mingyuan, who was in charge of water conservancy projects.

The grandfather was shocked when he heard this and could not believe that these words came from his five-year-old granddaughter.

He continued to ask in detail.

Wei Xiyin also realized that she had been exposed, but her grandfather asked her so much that she had to tell the truth and pointed out the problem.

After that, her four uncles were safe and sound, but she was targeted by her grandfather, who often tested her with books or court affairs, and ordered her to study with her brother.

Sometimes, her grandfather would intentionally or unintentionally show her some letters from the clan and tell her some of the family's secrets, completely treating her as a boy.

So Wei Xiyin knew that there was a secret passage in the Wei family fortress when she was very young, and she had even seen a map of the secret passage in her grandfather's study.

My grandfather said that the world is not peaceful nowadays. If the fort is surrounded one day, the secret passage will be the escape route for the tribe members.

Now, the secret passage has become their way to enter the fort.

Wei Xiyin immediately decided to take people through the secret passage.

If the fort has already fallen, knocking on the door will be useless and will alert the zombies inside. If the fort is safe and sound, that would be the best. At most, the secret of the secret passage will be exposed.

*

It was exceptionally quiet tonight, with only the occasional howling of zombies being heard.

Everyone had a good sleep.

When packing her bags in the morning, Wei Xiyin began to declutter, throwing away everything except food, trying to reduce the weight on the guards.

Of course, it is impossible to throw them away. If the world recovers one day, these gold and silver jewelry will be valuable.

Wei Xiyin asked Ningshuang to find a hidden place, bury the things, and mark the area nearby.

After everything was packed up, everyone lined up to go down the mountain.

The guards were divided into outer and inner groups. The outer group was responsible for guarding and killing the enemy, while the inner group was responsible for transporting food.

The team was very long, and the sixteen villagers who had killed the zombies were also arranged on the periphery. Wei Xiyin told them that the reward was still valid and they could still exchange the heads for food.
