Chapter 92: Cleaning up Ling County (Part 2)

Following the girl's order.

The thick and heavy wooden stakes were fixed on the cart and began to hit the city gate through the stake heads with huge inertia.

The wooden stake that was hit was about ten meters long, and its thick branches just passed through the gaps in the sheep and horse wall.

At the moment of collision, there was a deafening dull sound.

There was a commotion inside the city gate, and judging from the noise, it was obvious that there were a huge number of zombies.

The dozen or so guards responsible for the ramming remained calm, took a few steps back and rammed the city gate again.

Ten heavy crossbow carts had already been set up behind the barricades, and the crossbow arrows were all aimed at the door.

In front of them was a defensive line formed by rows of chevaux-de-frise. The impact position was also designed by Mr. Chu. The length of the wooden stakes was just enough to avoid the deep pit and hit the single-sided city gate from the side.

After dozens of collisions, the right city gate gradually loosened and the monster inside was scratching the door frantically.

The sound was so sharp and piercing, so dense that it gave people goose bumps.

The scene was filled with a solemn and murderous atmosphere.

Everyone gripped their weapons tightly, their eyes fixed on the loose door.

As time passed, the city gate was gradually opened a little, and pairs of shriveled, purple-black hands stretched out from the gap, and a low growl like a throat stuck in the throat could be clearly heard.

Wei Xiyin's expression was solemn, and he unconsciously increased the strength of his right hand holding Luoxue.

The gap gradually widened, and a zombie emerged from it. Its eyes were pale, its cheeks were sunken, and all the blood in its body had been drained away. Only a layer of loose skin wrapped around its bones remained on its body, and it looked extremely terrifying.

The guard who hit the city gate immediately let go, threw down the wooden stake and quickly retreated to a safe area.

The twisted zombies kept scrambling to get out of the city gate, and under the pressure, the opening of the city gate became bigger and bigger.

In less than a moment, the right door was fully opened.

The gate is surrounded by a sheep and horse wall.

Countless zombies in strange postures poured out from the three gaps in the Sheep and Horse Wall, splitting into three directions and running towards the crowd...

"Archers, get ready."

Wei Xiyin raised her hand and shouted, "Shoot!"

In front of the chevaux de frise stood several guards armed with bows and arrows, who immediately began shooting.

After receiving the order, the crossbow cart fired several arrows at once.

The sound of breaking wind suddenly sounded.

A rain of arrows floated in the air, and hundreds of armor-piercing arrows flew towards the zombies.

The multiple crossbow arrows fired from the crossbow cart had great penetrating power and pierced through the zombies' heads. They did not stop and shot straight through the bodies of several monsters behind them, and finally nailed to the sheep and horse wall, with their tails trembling slightly.

The monster in front that was hit on the head fell down with a loud bang.

The person whose body was pierced from behind was pushed down by inertia. After struggling for a while, he stood up shakily.

Wei Xiyin frowned slightly. If the zombie's head wasn't broken, the attack would be ineffective.

They are transformed from humans, with different heights and walking speeds. As a result, even if the crossbow cart aims, it can only kill the one in the front that is hit in the head.

The crossbow did not stop and continued to fire.

The guards kept aiming. Because the enemy was a zombie, Wei Ting changed the original vertical shooting to a horizontal shooting, and the range was also slightly adjusted, so that sixteen arrows could be fired at a time.

Although the accuracy was slightly lacking, the effect was still amazing, and occasionally an arrow would penetrate multiple monsters' heads.

But there are too many monsters.

Soon, the zombie army at the front arrived at the deep pit area and fell vertically to the bottom of the pit like dumplings.

The guard responsible for launching the rolling logs and boulders stood aside, waiting quietly and counting the number of them falling in.

Once the rocks fall into the pit, they cannot be retrieved and will only raise the pit floor. We must make the most of every opportunity and strive to maximize their effectiveness.

Before long, hundreds of corpses were lying in front of the Sheep and Horse Wall. The overlapping corpses blocked part of the gap, and the speed of the monsters pouring out of the city suddenly slowed down.

The air was filled with a strong stench of corpses.

But even so, many zombies continued to come out of the city.

Soon, the three deep pits were filled for the first time.

The guards stood on a high place and pushed the rolling logs and stones out.

The ground trembled slightly, and there was a rumbling sound in my ears. The huge boulder rolled down the slope, speeding up as it rolled, and in the blink of an eye it crashed straight into the bottom of the pit.

There was a dull sound of a huge object falling to the ground, crushing the zombies inside to pieces.

Chu Yu sighed slightly.

Wei Xiyin's attention was completely focused on the zombies in front of her. Suddenly she heard it and asked without turning her head, "Why are you sighing, sir?"

Chu Yu's voice came faintly, "Looking at the situation, I'm afraid there are no survivors in Ling County."

Wei Xiyin was silent. Indeed, the zombie outbreak had already lasted for half a year, and in the city that had not yet been breached, it was probably difficult for anyone to survive.

The people trapped in the city could not escape. Even if they were not killed by zombies, they did not have enough food to survive, not to mention the winter which was several times colder than before.

But who can be blamed for this?

We can only blame this cannibalistic world.

Wei Xiyin thought of this and sighed along with Chu Yu.

The siege continued. After the rolling logs and rocks hit the bottom of the pit for the second time, the space in the deep pit instantly shrank by more than half. The zombies at the back fell into the pit and stood on the rocks, their heads already exposed.

Chu Yu narrowed his eyes slightly, "Looking at the number, traps are more useful."

Wei Xiyin nodded, "Yes, it's a disposable consumable. It was somewhat useful at first."

Chu Yu paused when he heard this. Although the girl had a positive attitude, the words sounded a bit harsh.

He didn't know if it was his illusion, but the girl seemed a little disdainful of these methods.

Wei Xiyin continued, "It would be nice if we had some hot weapons." Her tone was quite regretful.
