Jiang Jinyan grabbed his colleague's sleeve and asked excitedly:
"The one who was taken away must be Jiang Xiancao, not Zhu'er, right?"
My colleague couldn't help but raise his voice, "Of course the person who was captured by the Imperial City Bureau was your adopted daughter!"
The adopted daughter was loved by the Jiang family. It would have been fine if she didn't know how to be grateful, but in order to win favor, she even framed the legitimate daughter of the family.
Even outsiders who found out felt sorry for Miss Jiang Er and hated Jiang Huaizhu, thinking she was a vicious woman with a cruel heart.
Now that they heard that the Imperial City Bureau had arrested Miss Jiang, everyone's first thought was that the person who was arrested must be Jiang Huaizhu.
This is something that doesn't require any thought. Why does Jiang Jinyan hope that it is his own sister who has committed the crime?
After hearing the answer from his colleague, Jiang Jinyan felt completely dumbfounded.
He kept shaking his head, repeating to himself, "Impossible, it can't be Zhu'er!"
His colleagues looked at him as if he were a fool, not understanding why he, a successful candidate in the imperial examination, suddenly became so stupid.
"His Royal Highness the Crown Prince asked me to tell you. Now that you know, I have something else to do, so I'll leave first."
After saying this, the colleague hurried away.
Jiang Jinyan's crazy reaction made him feel a little scared.
As a result, as soon as he took a step, Jiang Jinxing, who was walking from the side, grabbed his arm.
"Can the Imperial City Bureau arrest anyone at will? What right do they have to arrest my sister? What did Zhu'er do wrong?!"
Hearing Jiang Jinxing's roar, his colleagues' heads began to hurt.
Considering his good relationship with Jiang Jinyan in the past, he patiently explained:
"Jiang Huaizhu bribed the maidservant of the Ninth Prince to lure your Second Miss into a dark place. After drugging her, she planned to ruin her reputation. If the Ninth Prince and Prince Zhan hadn't arrived in time, she would have succeeded."
Jiang Jinxing became even more furious. "This must be another conspiracy between the Ninth Prince and that bitch Jiang Xiancao, deliberately framing Zhu'er!"
When his colleagues heard him blatantly accuse the current prince of breaking the law, their faces changed drastically. "These things are all irrefutable evidence. Second Young Master Jiang, please don't say anything nonsense!"
Jiang Jinxing was about to roar, but was stopped by Jiang Jinyan.
Jiang Jinyan finally regained some of his sanity at this point. He said in a deep voice, "Even so, this matter should be handed over to the Wen Ning Marquisate for handling. There's no need to bother the Imperial City Administration with the matter of Zhu'er's arrest."
Although there is no explicit provision in the laws of the Dasheng Dynasty, cases involving the family affairs of aristocratic families have always been handed over to the aristocratic families to handle, especially such matters as women in the harem competing for favor. This can be regarded as a privilege given by the Dasheng royal family to the major aristocratic families.
That's why Jiang Jinyan felt that his request was not excessive, but his colleagues couldn't stand it any longer:
"Jinyan, you're a smart person, so why are you so confused about things related to that adopted daughter? Did she drug you, or did she save your family's lives?
Yes, generally speaking, the imperial court would not interfere when it came to family feuds involving aristocratic families, and the Ministry of Justice and the Imperial City Administration would not easily intervene.
But those were all things that happened behind closed doors, and even so, if the royal family was determined to intervene, the aristocratic families had no right to stop them.
Not to mention that your adopted daughter caused trouble at the Empress Dowager's blessing banquet! Her crime of ruining the Empress Dowager's blessing was enough for the Imperial City Bureau to take her away with justification.
The worst thing is, she is involved with the remnants of Tianming Pavilion! Are you still going to protect her?"
The colleague explained everything clearly, shook his head and left.
The Jiang brothers were extremely shocked.
Jiang Jinxing blurted out, "Zhu'er is so well-behaved and sensible, how could she possibly know someone from Tianming Pavilion? The Ninth Prince is going too far to frame her..."
Before he could finish his words, a cold sneer came from behind him.
"You keep talking about my grandson framing your adopted daughter, but you don't even consider Ting Si's identity. Would he go to such lengths to frame a vixen of unknown origin?"
Hearing this voice, Jiang Jinyan trembled all over.
He turned around in disbelief.
The Queen Mother was really standing there, looking at them with an unsuspecting expression.
Jiang Jinyan's legs went weak and he quickly pulled his brother to kneel on the ground.
"Your humble servant greets the Empress Dowager!"
The Queen Mother sneered, "Why don't you continue? Keep questioning the Ninth Prince and the Imperial City Bureau because of that vixen!"
Jiang Jinyan hurriedly lowered his head, "Your Majesty, I was wrong. He absolutely did not..."
"Don't try to quibble. I heard everything you meant."
The Queen Mother interrupted him impatiently:
"That vixen is quite capable, having completely captivated you brothers. Even though she's involved with a rebellious organization like the Tianming Pavilion, you still dared to protect her. If your fathers were still here, would you still dare to do this?
Or is it that you are so arrogant because you have been influenced by what they have seen and heard?"
Jiang Jinyan's face was pale and his whole body was trembling.
He realized that the Jiang family was in real trouble this time!
The Queen Mother's voice was cold and gloomy as she continued:
"Well, since Marquis Wen Ning and the old lady are not in the capital, I can stop arguing with you ignorant youngsters.
But as children of aristocratic families, no matter how ignorant you are, you should know right from wrong.
I have only one last question for you: Do you know what the punishment is under the laws of Dasheng for harboring a traitor?
The weight of this last sentence was like a thousand-pound stone pressing down on the Jiang brothers.
Even the most reckless and impulsive Jiang Jinxing dared not breathe a word.
Finally, it was Jiang Jinyan who answered with a trembling voice:
