Jiang Xiancao did not come alone, she was followed by Huo Xuanguang, the assistant minister of the Ministry of Justice.
In the Ministry of Justice, Minister Huo was the immediate superior of Jiang San, a sixth-rank doctor. So when Jiang Jinyi, who had rushed over after hearing the news, saw him, he was so nervous that he stuttered.
The other three sons of the Jiang family were not good at socializing in official circles. They felt very uncomfortable when they saw the court official who was in charge of prisons and punishments appear in the marquis' mansion, especially Jiang Jinxing, who could hardly hide the hostility in his eyes.
Only Jiang Jinyan could still maintain the style of the Marquis' Mansion and bowed to the two people without being humble or arrogant:
"I wonder what brings the Ninth Prince and the Minister to visit us?"
Jiang Xiancao smiled sarcastically and said:
"This prince is very busy, and the case he was investigating has not yet been solved, so he originally had no time to come.
But this morning, Nanny Li, who is beside your eldest daughter of the Marquis' Mansion, knelt at the gate of the Prince's Mansion and begged to see me. She also claimed in front of the onlookers that Jiang Huaizhu was going to commit suicide to apologize.
The implication is that if I don't come to the Marquis' Mansion to stop it, Jiang Huaizhu's death will be blamed on me. How can I be so cruel as not to come and see her?"
Jiang Jinyan's face changed slightly. He had told Jiang Huaizhu to stay in the Marquis' Mansion and recuperate for the time being, but he didn't expect that she would cause such trouble again. It was simply nonsense!
"Since the prince is here to dissuade Zhu'er, why did he bring Minister Huo along?"
Jiang Jinyan was shocked and angry at this time. He no longer cared about etiquette and just wanted to ask Minister Huo, an outsider, to leave the Marquis' Mansion first.
But then Jiang Xiancao said with a smile:
"I dare not come alone, fearing that if something goes wrong you will collude and blame me. So I want to bring Minister Huo, who is a bystander, to be a witness. Is that not okay?"
Jiang Jinyan suppressed his anger and said humbly:
"Zhu'er was ignorant in sending someone to invite the prince. I apologize to the prince on her behalf and promise you that even if something happens to her, you will not be blamed. Now, can the prince take the minister with him and leave the mansion?"
Jiang Xiancao waved his hand and shook his head, "No."
Jiang Jinyan clenched his right hand into a fist in his sleeve, "Your Highness, everyone in this palace has always respected you. I believe I have never offended you. I also promised to find out the truth about the drowning case for you within ten days. I hope you will not be so aggressive—"
Before he could finish his words, Jiang Xiancao interrupted him sharply:
"Master Jiang is quite interesting. You care so much about your sister Zhu'er, but now that you heard she was going to commit suicide, why didn't you rush to save her? Instead, you are here to stop me. Aren't you afraid that if you delay her like this, something bad will happen to her?
Or are you convinced that she doesn't have the courage to actually hurt herself, and is just trying to put on a show to gain sympathy?"
"Your Highness has misunderstood. I believe in Sister Zhu'er. She would never use such a thing to play a trick."
Jiang Jinyan's ears turned red when he said this, and he didn't know if it was because of the cold wind or because he felt guilty.
Jiang Xiancao sneered, walked past him and walked quickly towards the inner house.
Jiang Jinxing hurriedly tried to stop her when he saw her, but was stopped by Tinglan. He could only grit his teeth and say:
"Go through this door and you'll find the women's quarters. Even if you're the Ninth Prince, there's no reason for you to force your way into the inner quarters of Beppu, right?"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Xiancao just sneered.
She raised her hand and showed the imperial token.
This was what she had looted in the palace. It seemed that Chen Tingsi was really favored, and the emperor was really kind to him.
But now all his good things will be used by her.
Sure enough, everyone in the Jiang family changed color.
Jiang Xiancao looked at Jiang Jinxing with a look full of sarcasm. She calmly reminded him, "Seeing this thing is like seeing the emperor. If Second Young Master Jiang tries to stop me again, you will be disobeying his order."
No matter how rash Jiang Jinxing acted, as a young master of a noble family he knew the weight of the imperial token.
He could only reluctantly step aside and watch Jiang Xiancao and the officials from the Ministry of Justice walk into the back house of the marquis's mansion.
"Madame Li said that Miss Jiang wanted to slit her wrists to avenge Second Miss's blood, so she must be in Second Miss's yard right now."
Jiang Xiancao walked to the yard where she originally lived as if she was familiar with the place.
As soon as she reached the door, she heard Jiang Huaizhu crying from inside:
"Sister Cao'er, I'll return all the blood you shed, and I won't owe you anything anymore!"
Jiang Xiancao raised a mocking smile and was about to step into the yard when he heard a weak but powerful female voice coming from inside:
"Stop talking nonsense, if you want to cut it, do it quickly, don't waste time!"
Jiang Xiancao's outstretched foot stopped on the threshold.
There was silence for a moment, and then Jiang Huaizhu asked in disbelief, "Is my sister really hoping for my death?"
The servants she brought with her also joined in:
"Second Miss, you are so cruel!"
"We know you've always been jealous of the eldest lady, but you can't do this!"
In the courtyard, Shen Tingsi looked at these servants who were talking nonsense and sneered:
"Didn't she just say she wanted to cut her blood to apologize? I agreed and told her to hurry up and do it. But from what you said, it sounds like I was forcing her to do that?"
The servants were speechless and could not find any words to say.
Jiang Huaizhu's eyes were filled with tears, and he clenched the knife handle tightly in his hand. "Sister Cao'er, this is what you said. You must not regret it after I kill you!"
She said that but didn't make a move, waiting for Shen Tingsi to give in and beg her to stop.
But Shen Tingsi just stared at her coldly.
I really don't know why he was so blind to fall for such a hypocritical woman.
He raised his eyebrows at her and said, "I won't regret it. Hurry up and do it. If you don't dare, then you are a coward worse than pigs and dogs."
