Wang Lan carried Sun Muchen as they sped through the woods. He had already activated his "Ghost Step" skill, making him incredibly fast.
Wang Lan also discovered that activating the Ghost Step skill had greatly improved his reaction speed, allowing him to react promptly to anything, whether dodging tree branches or avoiding large trees.
But there was still one thing he didn't understand.
Why did you do that just now?
After running a safe distance, Wang Lan asked Sun Muchen the question that had been bothering her, "Do you know how dangerous what you did was? That golden bullfrog's tongue flick is incredibly powerful. If you get hit, you definitely won't survive more than three seconds!"
“I know!” Sun Muchen said, clinging to Wang Lan’s back. “But I still think it was a golden toad, not some bullfrog as you said.”
"Pah!" Wang Lan scoffed. "You dare mention the golden toad? Didn't you say it was an auspicious creature? Good heavens, that tongue almost killed me!"
"That's because the golden toad has most likely been affected by the mutation!"
"Enough with the nonsense, let's get back to the point!"
Sun Muchen had no choice but to say, "Since you say it's a golden bullfrog, then it's a golden bullfrog. Anyway, no matter what kind it is, it's still a frog. I read in a book that frogs can't see stationary objects because frogs don't have moving eyelids. As long as we stay still, that golden bullfrog won't attack us."
Wang Lan suddenly realized, "Damn! Why didn't you say so sooner?"
Sun Muchen was taken aback, then retorted, "I told you not to move a long time ago, but you wouldn't listen!"
Wang Lan was speechless.
The situation was urgent just now, so I didn't have time to understand the meaning of Sun Muchen's words. Now, thinking about the power of the golden bullfrog's tongue-clicking, I felt a wave of fear.
Looking at the dense, lush forest ahead, Wang Lan couldn't imagine what strange dangers might await them.
He carried Sun Muchen on his back and ran all the way, not knowing how far he had run, until the time for the Ghost Step skill was up. Suddenly, Wang Lan's legs went weak, and he lost his balance. Sun Muchen on his back was also thrown forward, and the two siblings fell directly to the ground.
Sun Muchen groaned in pain, rubbing his waist and legs as he stood up. He looked at Wang Lan and said, "Brother, is your 'Ghost Step' skill putting such a strain on your body now? Ouch, I almost fell to my death."
But Wang Lan was sitting on the ground with a blank expression, looking at her right leg with a strange look.
Sun Muchen was taken aback and leaned forward to ask, "What's wrong, brother?"
Wang Lan frowned and said, "My right leg... seems to have lost all feeling?"
As he spoke, he pinched his right leg and then increased the force. Seeing that Wang Lan remained unfazed, Sun Muchen was also very surprised and simply punched the inside of Wang Lan's calf.
Wang Lan remained unmoved.
Sun Muchen was shocked. "What's going on?"
Wang Lan frowned even more, reaching down to his calf and tentatively pinching his thigh. Then he suddenly stopped, as if he had touched something strange. He looked up at Sun Muchen, then looked down again, slowly rolling up his trousers until they were just above his knees. A fist-sized insect appeared before their eyes.
Sun Muchen immediately jumped up in fright.
Wang Lan was also horrified by what she saw.
The insect was grayish-brown in color, with eight legs, a small head, but a large body. It was gnawing at the flesh on Wang Lan's legs, tearing the muscles to shreds, and constantly pushing its way in, as if trying to burrow into the flesh.
Wang Lan was about to reach out and pull the disgusting worm out.
Sun Muchen hurriedly said, "Wait, brother! Don't touch him!"
Wang Lan stopped what she was doing, looked up and asked, "What's wrong?"
Sun Muchen frowned as he walked over and squatted down, saying, "This bug looks a lot like a tick I read about in a book. Ticks are very annoying; they have a strong bite and are very venomous. Besides, its head has already burrowed into your flesh. If you try to grab it rashly, you might tear its body and head off!"
As he spoke, Sun Muchen made a grasping motion toward the tick. As blue light flashed between his fingers, the tick's body was also covered with a layer of blue light. Sun Muchen carefully raised his hand.
The tick seemed to sense an external force pulling it out of its tender flesh. Its eight legs kicked rapidly, trying to grip the skin tightly, but the blue light covering its body became the last layer of protection between its legs and the flesh. No matter how hard it kicked, it could never touch Wang Lan's skin.
Seeing that the time was right, Sun Muchen pulled sharply outwards.
The tick was then pulled out.
Sun Muchen then clenched his fist, and the tick exploded within the blue light, turning into a pool of blood mist. As Sun Muchen finished casting the spell, the blood mist spilled onto the ground.
Wang Lan clicked her tongue slightly, "These are all my flesh and blood."
Sun Muchen said, "Ticks are all poisonous. I think your physical condition must have suppressed the toxins."
“That should be it,” Wang Lan nodded, agreeing with Sun Muchen’s idea, and then said, “However, your skill is really useful. It can be used not only in combat but also to save people? Has your mana been fully restored?”
Sun Muchen nodded, but then shook his head and said, "Not yet, but it has recovered to at least 80 or 90 percent, so it no longer affects its use."
