"It's a tree root!"
Sun Muchen said, "Even if the earth ripples were huge just now, there will definitely be some residue left."
“No,” Wang Lan said firmly, pointing to the mark left by the Vajra Umbrella. “It’s definitely not a tree root. Even the sound of the Vajra Umbrella landing there is different. Go and take a look.”
Sun Muchen frowned, wondering if her brother had become stupid from the fall. But since she had already said it, she had no choice but to listen. So she got up and walked over there, but Wang Lan suddenly called her back.
"Wait, Mu Chen."
Sun Muchen turned around in surprise and asked, "What's wrong, brother? Have you thought it through?"
"Huh?" Wang Lan was taken aback and said, puzzled, "What do you mean you've figured it out? I told you to hold the Vajra Umbrella, otherwise, were you going to dig the dirt with your bare hands?"
"oh..."
Sun Muchen responded with a word, picked up the Vajra Umbrella, and walked over.
As dusk fell, the night slowly came to an end.
His vision was already a little blurry at this moment. When Sun Muchen walked over, his eyes widened, and he finally found the mark left by the Vajra Umbrella.
But she didn't believe that Wang Lan had found anything strange here, and assumed it was just Wang Lan's confused illusion, so she raised the Vajra Umbrella and stabbed it fiercely along the mark.
"when!"
Suddenly a clear, crisp sound rang out.
Sun Muchen turned his head in surprise to look at Wang Lan.
Wang Lan exclaimed in surprise, "How is it? Is there something there?!"
"Okay, it seems like it really exists!"
Sun Muchen turned around, pulled out the Vajra Umbrella, and plunged it in once again.
"when!"
"Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!"
I tried it several times, and each time there was a response.
Sun Muchen simply squatted down and used the Vajra Umbrella to stir the ground in front of him. The soil was pushed to both sides as the Vajra Umbrella was moved. When Sun Muchen made another move, the Vajra Umbrella was pushed halfway, and suddenly there was a "clang" sound!
"That's it!"
Wang Lan said, "That must be what tripped me up."
Upon hearing this, Sun Muchen immediately narrowed down the search area and sped up the digging.
Before long, a rusty knob appeared before our eyes.
"There really is something!"
Wang Lan's delighted voice rang out close to her ear, startling Sun Muchen. She turned around and saw Wang Lan right behind her.
"That was terrifying!"
Sun Muchen grumbled in dissatisfaction.
Wang Lan didn't answer her, but instead asked, "What is that?"
“It looks like a knob,” Sun Muchen said, while clearing the dirt around the knob with his hand. Then he placed his hand on the knob and turned it sharply.
There was a loud "crack" sound!
The already rusty knob was snapped off by Sun Muchen in his hand.
Wang Lan: "?!?!?!?!"
Sun Muchen: "Uh..."
"What...what's going on?"
Sun Muchen said with an embarrassed expression.
However, as soon as they finished speaking, the brother and sister heard a strange muffled sound, and at the same time, the ground beneath their feet began to tremble.
Wang Lan's face changed drastically. "Damn it, not again?"
"No, it's not!" Sun Muchen said, "Brother, it's not earth waves, it seems like there's only this piece of land under our feet!"
As they spoke, the muffled sound grew louder and louder, and the ground beneath their feet trembled even more violently.
Sun Muchen seemed to realize something in an instant, turned around, grabbed Wang Lan, and fell to the side.
This sudden change caused Wang Lan excruciating pain all over his body, but before he could even utter a curse, he heard a loud "boom" next to him.
The instant Wang Lan fell to the ground, he saw a black disc tumbling and shooting into the sky, while he himself fell to the ground, landing on the back of his head.
Sun Muchen hurriedly got up, not caring how badly Wang Lan had fallen, and looked back.
A dark hole had appeared in the ground ahead.
The brother and sister went over to them.
The cave was pitch black, and it was impossible to tell how deep it was or where it led. However, the entrance was nearly three meters in diameter, making it quite spacious.
Sun Muchen asked in confusion, "Could it be a snake hole?"
"What are you talking about?" Wang Lan rolled her eyes at him and said, "Have you ever seen a snake, or know how to use a knob?"
"Uh... I don't think so."
Sun Muchen suddenly realized.
Knobs are mechanical devices that only humans use.
So, could it be that someone once lived here?
She looked towards the fault line left by the waves of earth in the distance, but as darkness fell, she could no longer see clearly.
But Sun Muchen remembered it clearly.
That fault line is at least seven or eight meters high.
If this knob represents signs of past human activity here, meaning that the place changed after the anomaly, how could towering trees have grown over the past hundred years, completely erasing all traces of humanity?
Sun Muchen suddenly felt lost.
At this moment, Wang Lan reached into his pocket and pulled out a pack of tissues and a lighter. He chuckled and said, "Luckily, neither of these things is broken."
Sun Muchen looked completely bewildered. "What are you doing?"
"Look how deep this hole is!"
Wang Lan answered, then lit the tissue box with a lighter. As the flame lit up, illuminating the surroundings, Wang Lan threw the lit tissue box into the hole.
The firelight flickered and fell downwards in the pit, and the brother and sister held their breath and watched carefully.
