Wang Lan then realized that he was floating on the surface of the water. He immediately fell towards the water. Having never swum before, Wang Lan was filled with fear. Fortunately, a hand grabbed him at that moment.
It's Nan Chen!
"You're not dead!"
Wang Lan did not drown; instead, with Nan Chen's help, she floated on the surface of the water.
"He's not dead..." Nan Chen said weakly, "but he'll be dead soon..."
Her face was as pale as paper, without a trace of color, but it was much better than before, although her hand holding Wang Lan was still trembling slightly.
"Relax your body, use your limbs to stir the water around you, keep your eyes on the shore. The current isn't too strong, you should be able to swim across with me."
"Oh, oh," Wang Lan realized that Nan Chen was teaching him to swim. He immediately recalled the swimming postures he had seen in books and, combined with what Nan Chen had said, swam towards the shore.
Sure enough, he didn't sink.
But just as this thought crossed his mind, Wang Lan felt his body suddenly sink downwards, and a mouthful of water rushed into his mouth. He then heard Nan Chen let out a painful groan, but he could still feel Nan Chen gripping his shoulders tightly to prevent him from sinking.
Wang Lan then concentrated, swung her arms and legs, and swam towards the shore.
A moment later, the two finally reached the shore.
Wang Lan was already panting heavily.
He felt that swimming was a very difficult and strenuous skill.
He lay on the ground, panting heavily, and then looked at Nan Chen beside him.
Their clothes were soaked by the river, clinging tightly to their bodies, making Nan Chen's figure even more visible. Especially since his clothes were damaged during the battle with the monster in the bamboo forest, Wang Lan saw some strange and beautiful things. The inexperienced Wang Lan immediately felt a warm current rising from her lower abdomen, and unconsciously looked at Nan Chen, her eyes widening.
He was completely engrossed in watching...
"If you stare at me again, I'll gouge your eyes out!"
When Nan Chen uttered those cold words, Wang Lan immediately blinked awkwardly and looked away. But out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of Nan Chen's face. His hair clung to his cheeks, and although his face was pale, it gave him a unique kind of beauty.
Wang Lan dared not admire it any longer. He coughed awkwardly, stood up, and looked around.
Before them stretched a wide river, which flowed slowly but was extremely wide, with a forest behind them.
This forest is strange and peculiar, with a wide variety of trees growing haphazardly. Pine, willow, poplar, and other trees that you can name are growing randomly, and there are many more trees that you can't even name. These trees are not as tall and thick as they are usually, but rather look almost exactly the same as the trees before the mutation.
Not only that, the grass on the ground also grows in strange and unusual ways.
The short grass barely reached ankle height, while the large clumps of grass were incredibly lush.
"That's strange..." Wang Lan muttered to herself, then turned to look at Nan Chen, walked over and asked, "Are you... alright?"
Nan Chen looked up, rolled her eyes at Wang Lan, and said, "Do you think I look alright?"
Wang Lan: "......"
Nan Chen said, "But he won't die. Although his injuries look serious, fortunately there are no fatal wounds. However, his movements will inevitably be somewhat limited until he is fully recovered."
As she spoke, Nan Chen tried to stand up, but as soon as she moved, a sharp pain shot through her entire body. Nan Chen immediately gritted her teeth, but still stumbled and sat down on the ground again.
"Let me help you," Wang Lan stepped forward and reached out to support Nan Chen, but the other man moved and instinctively flinched. Wang Lan was taken aback, then said, "You're so weak right now, can you stand up by yourself?"
Nan Chen thought for a moment and then reached out his hand.
Wang Lan helped Nan Chen to her feet, muttering to herself, "What a strange woman. I hugged and held her when she was in life-or-death situation, but now that there's no danger, she's starting to get shy. Tsk tsk."
"What did you say?" Nan Chen heard Wang Lan's words clearly and turned to glare at him.
"Oh, alright, alright," Wang Lan shook her head and said, "You're already like this, so try not to get angry. We don't even know where we are right now. Instead of getting angry with me, you should think about what to do next. That way, you can save some energy, and I can concentrate on observing the surrounding situation."
Nan Chen was about to retort, but when he opened his mouth, he didn't know where to begin. He just glared at Wang Lan and then let Wang Lan help him into the forest.
Seeing her like this, Wang Lan scoffed, stopped looking at her, and instead looked ahead, asking as he walked, "Do you still have any weapons on you?"
Looking at Wang Lan's appearance, Nan Chen suddenly felt a surge of anger. Even her goodwill towards Wang Lan for being an esper seemed to have vanished. However, in this unfamiliar place, the only way to survive was for the two of them to work together. So she said, "I have two daggers on either side of my calves, and two guns on my waist, but I only have twenty bullets left and no spare magazines."
"Wow, you're pretty quick," Wang Lan glanced down and saw two daggers stuck in the sides of Nan Chen's calves. She wondered when Nan Chen had put the daggers away. Wang Lan was curious. Thinking of this, Wang Lan suddenly smiled and said, "Heh, your calves are really white."
