Chapter Forty-Nine: The Wolf Pack

Wang Lan's injuries were severe.

In this battle with Yu Bin, it can be said that his proud "bloodthirsty" skill did not play much of a role, because Yu Bin was ruthless and powerful, and even his physical defense was not to be underestimated. Although Wang Lan fought back, compared with Yu Bin, he only caused negligible damage, which was not enough to recover from his serious injuries.

Wang Lan gained a completely new understanding of Bin's strength.

But at the same time, I also gained a completely new understanding of power!

Yu Bin was indeed very powerful, but he was no match for a pistol.

A bullet the size of a finger took his life instantly.

This was the first time Wang Lan had witnessed the power of a pistol.

No wonder it's a weapon only the final fortress can possess!

Wang Lan clutched his stomach as he looked at Sun Muchen, whose wounds were still bleeding. Yu Bin's punch had left him with gaping wounds, and the only way to recover quickly was to inflict damage on other living beings; otherwise, he would have to remain in this weakened state for some time.

But outside, giant spiders and mosquitoes were feasting, and for Wang Lan to go out now would be tantamount to throwing his life away.

Old Zhang came over and, without saying a word, took out hemostatic medicine and anti-inflammatory medicine from his backpack. "Hurry up and apply the medicine, or the wound will become infected."

Wang Lan glanced at him and nodded. "Thank you."

In this situation, Wang Lan was genuinely grateful to Lao Zhang for being able to use the limited stock of medicine to save lives.

The powder landed on the wound, and immediately a strong burning sensation spread throughout his body. Wang Lan grimaced in pain, but he endured the pain and looked at Sun Muchen, whose eyes were slightly teary, and said, "Good shot."

The reason he gave the pistol to Sun Muchen was naturally because of her exceptional talent for archery, where she was unerring in every shot. Unexpectedly, this talent wasn't limited to archery but also extended to firearms. Once she was given enough guns and ammunition, Sun Muchen's combat power would be virtually invincible.

The medicine has been applied.

Wang Lan was also covered in sweat.

The group decided that running away was the best option, since the spiders and mosquitoes were now providing cover for them, making it a perfect opportunity to escape.

Wang Lan noticed that the fat man was leaning against the wall, pale-faced and sweating profusely. He frowned and asked, "Fatty?"

The fat man didn't say anything.

Sun Muchen and Lao Zhang also looked at the fat man curiously.

"Fatty!"

Wang Lan shouted again.

Unexpectedly, the fat man snapped out of his daze, jolted awake, and looked over, asking, "Wh...what's wrong?"

"You fatso," Wang Lan said, assuming he was just tired and asleep, "we shouldn't stay here any longer, we should go."

"Oh? Oh!" The fat man nodded blankly.

The group quickly headed out of the market. Just before leaving, Old Zhang glanced back, seemingly trying to remember this place he had once lived. But he saw that the giant spiders and mosquitoes were outnumbered, and the infected had crawled onto their bodies...

Old Zhang shuddered and quickly turned and left.

When leaving the market, I discovered that the fire rats were either dead or scattered. Apart from the faint smell of meat and the stench of burning fur still lingering in the air, all that remained were the fire rat corpses scattered all over the grass, burned to charcoal.

They decided to go back into the cave first.

The place has ample supplies and is well-hidden, making it a good temporary safe haven.

I just hope we don't encounter any danger on the way back. Otherwise, with Wang Lan's current severely injured body, she won't be able to continue fighting. And although Sun Muchen has a pistol, he has limited bullets and won't last long either.

Old Zhang... has virtually no combat capability.

Fatty... although he's more important than Lao Zhang, he's been looking completely lost and disoriented since just now, and nobody knows what's wrong with him.

During this time, several people expressed their concern for him and asked him about it a few times, but Old Zhang seemed to be slow to realize what was going on, just nodding and not saying much, which was quite strange.

This low mood also affected the other three, so the remaining four of them remained silent as they walked on.

We're getting closer to the cave, and we can already vaguely see the outlines of several mountains.

But Wang Lan stopped in her tracks at that moment, frowning as she said, "Something's not right!"

The other three also stopped. Sun Muchen laughed and asked, "What's wrong, brother? Is something off again?"

Old Zhang also said, "We're almost there, what could possibly happen?"

Wang Lan looked around thoughtfully and said, "It's too quiet. Our journey back has been too smooth. We haven't seen a single person, or even a bird in the sky. Don't you think there's something wrong?"

Old Zhang laughed and said, "I think you're overthinking it. Right now, apart from inside the fortress, I reckon there are only a few of us alive in the entire safe zone. How could you possibly see so many shadows?"

Wang Lan shook her head, but did not reply. Instead, she looked around aimlessly, and then suddenly seemed to have made a discovery, looking at several mountains in the distance.

As if searching desperately for something, Wang Lan frowned, squinted, and looked carefully. Then, his body suddenly trembled.

Sun Muchen asked, "What's wrong, brother?"

Wang Lan looked incredulous and said, "Mu Chen, quickly take a look at that mountain, is there something there?"

Sun Muchen looked over curiously, and Old Zhang followed suit.

But how could his eyesight compare to Wang Lan's and Sun Muchen's? He stared at it for a long time but still couldn't figure it out.
