"What's wrong, brother? Is something off?" Sun Muchen asked Wang Lan.
Wang Lan frowned and said, "Give me the painkillers first, I think I'm going to have a headache."
Upon hearing this, Sun Muchen quickly reached into his pocket, took out a painkiller, and handed it to Wang Lan.
They didn't put the painkillers in their bag because Wang Lan's headaches were unpredictable; she never knew when they would suddenly start hurting for no reason. So they always carried them with them, ready to use them whenever needed.
Wang Lan took the painkiller, poured it into his hand, and without even looking at the quantity, stuffed it into his mouth and began to chew it. His face turned ashen. Once the painkiller had completely entered his stomach and started to take effect, Wang Lan said, "Something's not right here at this market."
Sun Muchen frowned and said, "You mean, there aren't enough animals?"
“It’s not just animals,” Wang Lan said. “Look at this market, apart from some fly eggs and insect eggs, you can’t even see a human being. I feel like something’s not right.”
“If that’s the case,” Sun Muchen said, “Brother, do you remember what I just said? The rats suddenly stopped moving forward, clearly because they were afraid to go any further, as if there was something dangerous ahead that made them afraid.”
Wang Lan nodded. "That's right. It's not just the rats. Think about what we saw with Boss Niu. Her movements looked like she was struggling to run away."
“There must be something terrifying in this market!” Sun Muchen said. “Animals are much more sensitive to danger than humans. Since the rats dare not go forward, it must be because they sensed something in the market that frightened them.”
But what can you find in a market?
This place used to be a place where ordinary people lived and traded. After the outbreak of the infectious virus, it became a disaster area. The blood and stench carried by the infected attracted a large number of flying insects, birds and beasts, who were then infected one after another.
Wang Lan was completely baffled. Could it be the oppressive feeling caused by the infection of flying insects and birds?
The moment the thought crossed her mind, Wang Lan dismissed it.
Not to mention that Boss Niu showed no fear when he saw the corpse-pecking bird, and even bared his teeth in provocation.
When the swarm of rats appeared, the carcass bird immediately flew away, seemingly more afraid of the rats than the carcass bird itself.
So the problem has come full circle.
What frightens the rats and makes them stop in their tracks?
Wang Lan really couldn't understand it.
By this time, the group had reached the center of the market, but they still hadn't seen a single person, not even the insect eggs. It seemed that the flying insects only laid their eggs on the outskirts of the market and hadn't ventured into its depths.
But the smell of blood was getting stronger and stronger.
And amidst the smell of blood, there was also a strange, indescribable odor.
Wang Lan noticed that although the insect eggs were no longer visible on the ground, there were many transparent spherical objects that looked like fish bubbles. Of course, these spherical objects could not be compared with normal-sized fish bubbles, because each of these spherical objects was nearly half a meter in size, but the inside was visibly empty.
Wang Lan tried poking the surface of the spherical object with the Vajra Umbrella, but to her surprise, the spherical object shattered into pieces the moment it touched the surface.
"What...what's going on?"
The group looked at each other in bewilderment.
But Yu Bin spoke up at this moment, "Alright, let's not worry about that for now. We're short on time, let's hurry up and find supplies!"
Everyone then turned their attention to Yu Bin.
Wang Lan was no exception.
Yu Bin looked at everyone and said, "We only have twelve people left. Let's split into three groups, search for supplies in groups, and then meet up here as soon as possible. What do you think?"
Everyone nodded in agreement.
“Okay,” Yu Bin nodded and said, “Fatty, Lao Zhang, Qiangzi, the three of you will be in my group…”
"Wait, wait a minute," the fat man suddenly interrupted, "Um, can I team up with Lao Zhang, Wang Lan, and Sun Muchen?"
Upon hearing this, both Wang Lan and Sun Muchen were taken aback.
Yu Bin asked in surprise, "Why?"
"It's nothing," the fat man stammered. "After all, we were allied for a while, so we probably have some tacit understanding when we work together."
Upon hearing this, Yu Bin hesitated for a moment, seemingly wanting to persuade him to stay, but ultimately nodded, "Alright then, you four will form a group: Qiangzi, Shengzi, and Huzi. Since you are relatively weaker, you can team up with me."
The three nodded and walked to Yu Bin's side.
So the three groups were divided up. Yu Bin reminded everyone to be careful, then led the three of them away to look for supplies.
The other group was led by Lu Ren. He gave Lao Zhang and Fatty a cold look, then turned and left with his men.
Only Wang Lan and the other three remained on the field.
"Hehe..." The fat man turned to Wang Lan and laughed after everyone had left.
Wang Lan asked with interest, "Actually, I'm quite curious, why didn't you go with that great philanthropist Yu Bin? Instead, you came to find me again?"
Old Zhang sighed and said, "Isn't it because he's too good?"
The fat man nodded repeatedly.
Old Zhang continued, "To be honest, these people aren't quite normal." After he finished speaking, he suddenly felt that this was not quite right, and added, "Or rather, only Yu Bin is not quite normal."
Wang Lan asked curiously, "What's wrong with it?"
"His performance is too good, it's not normal." Old Zhang clapped his hands and said, "Think about it, this is the apocalypse, and it's during the Eternal Night when the infectious virus is breaking out. Who isn't thinking about themselves? But he actually saved me?" Old Zhang's face was full of disbelief. "Do you think it's normal for a hunter who roams the border wall seeking the thrill of killing to save useless people like me and Fatty?"
