Chapter 124: Sleeping Together

Yu Zheng turned his eyes away and said in a hoarse voice: "I'll go ahead, for fear of wild animals."

Jiang Shu did not doubt him and stopped to let Yu Zheng go forward.

The two walked along the path and entered a low forest after walking uphill.

Jiang Shu nodded and followed Yu Zheng closely.

But her physical strength was far inferior to Yu Zheng's. She couldn't walk halfway and breathed softly while holding onto a tree.

Yu Zheng noticed and found a stone for her to sit down and rest.

The sky was getting dark and the sun had already set. They didn't have much time and had to find the village before dark.

While they were resting, they heard a young man's voice from the woods.

The two looked at each other, and Jiang Shu hurriedly got up and went to the place where the sound came from.

Jiang Shu couldn't keep up because she was exhausted, so Yu Zheng stretched out his hand to her.

Yu Zheng held her tightly, holding her hand and walking quickly through the forest.

"Brother, wait for me." Another childish voice sounded.

The voice was very close, not far ahead.

Yu Zheng pulled Jiang Shu and quickened his pace.

Finally, they walked out of the dense forest and saw two children carrying baskets on their backs, trotting forward.

Jiang Shu's almond eyes lit up and she shouted urgently.

The two children turned around when they heard the sound and saw that their faces were full of shock and vigilance.

The two children were one big and one small, the older one was about ten years old, and the younger one was no more than seven or eight years old.

"Who are you?" The boy asked vigilantly, protecting his younger brother behind him.

Jiang Shu took a deep breath and said slowly, "Don't be afraid, we accidentally fell off the cliff and were washed here by the river."

Seeing that the two people's clothes were wrinkled and their faces were kind, they didn't look like bad people. The boy believed them and took them back to the village.

The village is very small, with only a dozen households.

The boy's name is Hu Zi, and his family lives at the end of the village, with only a few simple mud houses.

Hu Zi's parents had just returned from working in the fields. After learning about Jiang Shu and his friends' experience, they readily welcomed them into the house.

Finally, they found a place to stay, and Jiang Shu breathed a sigh of relief as he watched the sky darken.

When night fell, Yu Zheng and Jiang Shu had dinner with Hu Zi's family.

Jiang Shu reacted and picked up a chopstick for each of Hu Zi and his brother.

"Eat it quickly."

The two brothers were very happy and smiled as they ate.

Hu Zi's parents said with a blushing look, "Don't worry about them, you guys eat more."

There were only twelve slices of bacon on that plate, and there were only a few left on this plate.

Jiang Shuwan smiled and said, "We're eating. We don't usually get to eat such fresh wild vegetables. It's rare."

Hu Zi's mother was relieved after hearing this and asked Jiang Shu to eat more.

"Our village is remote, and it's rare to see outsiders all year round. I'm really happy today." Hu Zi's father took out his treasured wine and poured it for Jiang Shu and Yu Zheng.

The two picked up the wine bowls, clinked their glasses with Hu Zi's father, and drank.

After dinner, Hu Zi brought hot water for Jiang Shu and Yu Zheng to wash.

"There are only three rooms in our house. You two brothers will sleep in Hu Zi's room tonight." Hu Zi's mother brought clean bedding and spread it on.

Staying overnight is already a lot of disturbance, and Hu Zi's family didn't have any extra beds. Jiang Shu couldn't ask for anything, so she could only make do for one night.

"Thank you, sister-in-law, for the trouble you have caused." Jiang Shu thanked her softly and sent Hu Zi's mother away.

After closing the door, Jiang Shu turned around and bumped into Yu Zheng's dark eyes.

Their eyes met, a man and a woman alone, Jiang Shu suddenly became nervous.

How can she sleep on a narrow bed in a small room?

She hurriedly looked away and scanned the room. Apart from the bench where Yu Zheng was sitting, there was only an old wardrobe.

There was only a thin quilt on the bed, and the ground was uneven mud, so it was impossible to sleep on the floor.

Jiang Shu bit her lip, not knowing what to do.

Seeing through her thoughts, Yu Zheng said, "You sleep on the bed, and I'll sleep sitting against the wall."

How can I sleep while sitting?

"When you are away from home, you have to act according to the emergency." Jiang Shu took off his shoes and got on the bed, huddled in the innermost part, leaving a large space.

Yu Zheng looked at the empty space, pursed his lips and said: "Aren’t you afraid of damaging your reputation if you and I sleep on the same bed?"

"If the prince doesn't say it, who will know?" Jiang Shu asked back.

It seems to be so.

Yu Zheng said no more, got up, extinguished the oil lamp and walked towards the bed.

In the darkness, Jiang Shu felt Yu Zheng lying down beside her and gently pulling the thin quilt.

They both slept with their clothes on, observing the last etiquette.

The bed was really narrow, and the two of them would bump into each other if they moved a little, which scared Jiang Shu so much that she didn't dare to move.

Yu Zheng listened to her rapid breathing and knew that she was still nervous and afraid, so he tried to move to the bed as far away from her as possible.

Noticing Yu Zheng's movements, Jiang Shu breathed a sigh of relief and closed her eyes tiredly.

She was exhausted after half a day's work. Although she wanted to sleep, the scene after falling into the river today emerged involuntarily in her mind.

Yu Zheng gave her air twice, and she was conscious.
