32. I'll take you there
After this day, they officially broke up. They contacted each other occasionally through the phone, but the frequency of his messages dropped drastically. He put aside his pride and tried his best to please her, but he couldn't win her heart.
She sent him a long, heartless message, asking him to stop bothering her, to let her go, and even to blacklist him. He laughed, suspecting he was being tricked by her, but he also realized that once she made up her mind, she would not waver, and her attitude was very resolute.
One day, they received their exam results and held a graduation ceremony. Afterward, there was a celebration party, and Yao Ling was there. They met again after two months. Everyone knew that their relationship was in trouble, but they had not deleted the photos from their social media accounts.
Frankly speaking, they were sent by their parents to this old and somewhat international high school for three years. Their vision and awareness were there, so they naturally congratulated Yao Ling on her choice, but felt sorry for their falling out.
This strange relationship continued until Yao Ling's formalities were completed. The family sold their house, packed their luggage, and booked an international flight from Hong Kong Airport at 3 a.m.
Pili and Lin Zhe became estranged from Yao Ling because they saw that Deng Shilang was seriously injured, drank a lot of alcohol in the past two months, and even quarreled with his parents and stayed out all night.
They didn't go to see her off. Only Xiao Yu came to Yao Ling's house at seven o'clock in the evening, holding a doll, to say goodbye to her.
Yao Ling came down and gave Xiaoyu a handmade album filled with photos of them: her and Deng Shilang, as well as Pili and Lin Zhe. Under the streetlight, they hugged each other, and Xiaoyu cried bitterly. She understood Deng Shilang's feelings, but he was her best friend, and she wanted him to have a better life.
"Don't cry." Yao Ling said, wiping her eyes. "If you cry again, I won't be able to hold it back."
"You must tell me how you are doing over there." Xiao Yu cried and wiped her face with her sleeves.
Yao Ling nodded, tears falling, "I know, you too."
After they separated, Xiao Yu watched her get into the car and kept waving. After she left, Xiao Yu's tears dripped onto her phone. She sent a message to Deng Shilang, telling him to go to the Hong Kong airport to see Yao Ling off.
At midnight, the family arrived at Hong Kong Airport to check in. Yao Ling, holding Xiaoyu's doll, saw someone on the phone at the security checkpoint. Her phone rang, and her heart ached. She turned away, not wanting to look.
Deng Shilang held his phone and looked for her. After seeing her, he walked up to her and didn't hang up. Her ringtone rang for a long time. It was "Loving You".
"I'll take you there." He put down his phone and stood in front of him.
Yao Ling grasped the plush toy and saw that although he looked a little tired, he still looked very well groomed. She replied in a rather unfamiliar tone, "No need to bother."
Deng Shilang said: "I came after all."
By chance, Chen Yu and Yao Shenhe spotted them, and Deng Shilang politely introduced himself. Yao Ling suddenly said, "He's Deng Shilang, my ex-boyfriend."
Shen Yu finally understood, looked at them for a long time, told them that they would have to go through security in half an hour, and then took her husband into the cafe to leave some space.
Deng Shilang looked at his watch. It was still two and a half hours until three in the morning. He pointed to the empty seat next to him and said, "Sit down."
Yao Ling followed him and sat down. For five minutes, neither of them spoke, just sitting quietly. The airport announcements blared in English and Cantonese, and passengers hurried by, pausing to check flight information on the large screens. Occasionally, a few teams of maintenance personnel passed by, and time slipped by as people came and went.
Deng Shilang saw her stroking the plush of the doll, moving it back and forth, and then back and forth. He broke the silence, "You didn't give me any contact information."
Yao Ling paused and hummed softly, "You are already seriously injured. You won't be able to bear it if this continues. Although it is very uncomfortable now, it will be temporary." This is how she convinced herself.
Deng Shilang smiled and said, "How can you still treat me like this?"
She lowered her head and unconsciously pinched the doll's ears. "Actually, you've already figured out which option is best for you, but you're hesitating because of what you believe is love. This hesitation won't last long. Any further hesitation will only make you feel self-satisfied and care about the other person. It will only cause you mental fatigue and won't yield any tangible results."
"I understand what you mean. It's selfish to keep pestering me. I should respect your choice." Deng Shilang looked at her. "You're right. I have to consider myself. Besides, I'm no longer your boyfriend."
Yao Ling nodded. Even though it was a little hard to breathe, she was still happy that they had reached a consensus. She took out her phone and hooked her fingers on the earphones. "Listen to some music?"
Deng Shilang didn't refuse. He took her earphones and put them in his left ear, while she put them in her right. They sat side by side, their earphones connected. She played AGA's "3AM."
"I hope there's no more fussing and entanglement, and the story remains the same... It's 3a. min the morning and I don't know how to say goodbye, but you should know how awkward our situation is. If we pretend to be happy at the beginning, it will be fake, so I won't reveal this card..."
Deng Shilang couldn't bear to listen any longer, so he took off his headphones and returned them to her.
Yao Ling had heard this song so many times that she could barely hold back her tears, and this time, she could control herself well in front of him. It was still playing in her ears as she held onto her doll and said, "I'm going in."
Deng Shilang stood up and walked with her to the security checkpoint, watching her go in. As she walked further and further away, he still wanted to call her back, even though he knew she wouldn't look back, he still called her name from behind: "Lingling."
Just as he was about to leave, Yao Ling quickly walked up to him, put down the doll, put her arm around his waist, and said reluctantly, "Goodbye."
"Go." Deng Shilang knew he had to let go.
Yao Ling let go of him, but once she entered security and couldn't see him, her heart ached so much she couldn't stop crying. The security officer didn't know why she was crying, and as they scanned her body with the scanner, she was still shaking, tears falling to the ground, one drop at a time. Shen Yu and Yao Shenhe waited until they found Yao Ling and realized she hadn't stopped crying. Suddenly, their heart ached, they put their arms around her shoulders and stroked her hair. She rarely did this, but she sobbed in their arms at the airport.
