48. What does it mean?
Yao Ling heard a single word, neither coaxing nor refutation, the meaning unclear, and her heart sank. She was extremely unwell and unable to argue with him any further, so she hung up and threw the phone away, letting both of them calm down.
The hang-up made Deng Shilang clutch his phone tightly. He sent her a message, asking her to wait and that he would come find her right away. But she didn't see it, her consciousness becoming increasingly blurred, and finally even the energy for work disappeared. She put the ice in the pool and went back to her room to curl up in bed.
After waiting for a long time without seeing a read mark, Deng Shilang decided to return to the office. He asked for leave from his manager, who, recognizing his urgent needs, not only didn't impose any difficult requirements but also flexibly arranged for remote work, suggesting he return to work after Christmas.
Since the communication between his superiors and subordinates was smooth, Deng Shilang could leave the company immediately to deal with his urgent matters. He drove back to his apartment, packed his luggage, and went to the airport counter to select the fastest flight to Milan.
There happened to be a direct Cathay Pacific flight that day, which took only thirteen hours from Hong Kong to Milan, making it the fastest flight of all.
After completing the formalities, he received a WhatsApp message from Liang Litang at the boarding gate, asking what he needed in such a hurry. He replied that he was going to Milan, then ignored it. The chat box was flooded with question marks and surprised emojis, and it was suspended in airplane mode.
After the flight had been smooth for a while, the flight attendant brought drinks. Seeing him wearing an OMEGA and a full suit, she thought he would order champagne. However, he rarely drank in the morning, just a cup of hot coffee and open his laptop to do some work in the cabin.
Even in such a hurry, he was able to quickly enter the remote work state. The plane took off and landed steadily, and after flying for several hours, the cabin began to dim and entered the sleep mode.
As the passengers around him gradually fell asleep, Deng Shilang, feeling a bit tired, closed his laptop and leaned back in his chair to rest. When he woke up again, he found he was still half an hour away from Milan, the cabin crew had closed, and it was almost time for landing.
Yao Ling slept for nearly fifteen hours before she was awakened by a phone call. She answered without even looking at the number and heard Evander's extremely cold voice.
"I need to ask for your opinion on something. The media is reporting on my exhibition, and you, as the photographer, will be mentioned. Do you want to use a pseudonym, your real name, or choose to remain anonymous?"
Yao Ling felt uncomfortable all over, and her voice was a little hoarse when she spoke, "Rosalie is fine."
Evander remembered it later, and heard her sit up and fall back down again, saying, "You're not feeling well."
She finally lay there, feeling a little dizzy, and said, "It's okay, I'm hanging up."
"Address, I'll send you medicine. It's peak flu season now."
Yao Ling thought that rebellious artists like him would be very persistent once they decided to do something, so she didn't bother to talk to him. She just went along with him and asked him to put the medicine at the door.
As soon as she hung up the phone, she fell asleep again until the apartment bell rang. She didn't know how she opened the door. Her fever had just subsided and she hadn't put on slippers yet. Her soles were cold. She groped her way over by holding on to the wall. As soon as she opened the door, she slipped and was caught by Evander.
After getting off the plane, Deng Shilang took a taxi to the address Yao Ling had given him for Christmas plans. Yao Ling hadn't replied to him along the way, and when he arrived at the apartment and saw this scene, he suddenly felt that he had done something unnecessary.
She was very strong-willed, and even stronger after these five years of experience. But as long as she wanted help from a man, there would definitely be one to help her. He came over from such a long distance, exhausted, but was preceded by the man who helped her block CBDgummy.
Deng Shilang's first reaction was fatigue, but then, seeing the man's hand touch her skin, his possessiveness surged. He put his luggage on the ground, walked over to them, and said in English, "I'll hold her."
Evander turned around, not knowing who he was, and didn't let him touch him. "Who are you?"
Yao Ling squinted her eyes in daze and accidentally smelled Giovanni's fragrance, thinking she was dreaming. When she heard English, she blurted out, "Isn't it Evander?"
"Yao Ling." Deng Shilang laughed in anger, deliberately speaking English throughout, "Who am I?"
She leaned against Evander's arms and vaguely saw Deng Shilang. He was still in his full suit, but his shirt had a few buttons unbuttoned and his sleeves rolled up. She seemed to recognize him, but her eyebrows furrowed in disbelief.
Seeing her reaction, Deng Shilang stared at her and continued to ask, "Do you want to take another look?"
"Didn't I tell you to die?" Yao Ling's voice was not as clear as before because of her illness.
Deng Shilang didn't answer her and turned his gaze to Evander. "I'm her boyfriend. She's angry with me. You can leave first. If you don't trust her, you can confirm with Vatina. She has seen me."
Yao Ling simply left Evander and leaned against him, leaning against the door. However, she was too weak to lean over, and Deng Shilang, who had rushed over, grabbed her and held her in his arms. She felt a little hurt by the hug, feeling both angry and aggrieved. With her remaining strength, she pushed him away, "Your watch is very uncomfortable. Go away."
He still held her, loosening his grip halfway around her, taking off his watch in a few seconds, and then hugged her tightly again. "Okay, it's not painful now. Don't move. You're still sick."
Seeing this, Evander realized that they were familiar with each other, so he didn't need to ask any more questions. He hung the medicine on the door handle and said, "Here are the medicine."
After packing the medicine and luggage and closing the door, Deng Shilang quickly found her room, carried her to bed, and tucked her in. He slipped her feet under the covers and felt her skin, which was very cold. "You're not wearing slippers. You're only happy if you ruin your body."
Yao Ling was lying on the bed, her lips dry as he fiddled with her. "Open the door and get the medicine."
"Let him wait outside and not go barefoot for other men."
"It was supposed to be a quick thing, but suddenly you showed up at the door," she said.
"I blame myself for showing up so suddenly." Deng Shilang had thought he'd give her a surprise, but now he was disappointed. He touched her face, then her forehead. It wasn't hot, but rather icy cold after the fever had subsided. "You weren't happy at all that I showed up in front of you. I thought you'd take the initiative to hug me, but you allowed another man to bring you medicine and even let him touch you. I'm not your number one at all, am I?"
She looked at him and didn't answer.
He asked again, "What do you mean, you still don't treat me as your boyfriend like before."
Yao Ling simply said, "After you said that word, my heart felt cold and I didn't want to pay attention to you.
"I sent you a message to explain, but you didn't reply and even answered another man's call." Deng Shilang added, "I spent thirteen hours to come see you, and seeing you so close to him at the door made me feel like I was unnecessary."
He said as he got up from the bed, leaving her stunned.
He went to his desk and opened the medicine bag Evander had sent him. He saw a large collection of medicines. Although it was in Italian, some of the words were similar to English. There was aspirin for pain and inflammation, paracetamol for fever and flu, and a thermometer, cough syrup, and lozenges. His heart tightened.
When he was not around, there would be someone to take care of her. He was very possessive, but he was not stingy enough to throw away her medicine. He put it on the bedside table for her, did not talk to her anymore, and let her go to sleep.
