Chapter Sixty-Two: Why Am I Always Unhappy?
At 11 o'clock, Qin Tianshuo and the others found the lounge.
"I deliberately skipped breakfast this morning, just waiting for this big meal. Are you coming or not? Don't try to stall us by eating us out of house and home!" Qin Tianshuo shouted with a laugh at the door.
"Who do you think you are? Come on, come on, I'll take you to the street next to the research building. There's a restaurant on that street that makes mutton, it's absolutely delicious!" Yu Shuang picked up her coat and led the group out.
Zhao Bohan walked at the back, and after the group of people had left noisily, he carefully locked the door.
He didn't see a faint red light flickering in a hidden hole in the wall behind the wooden rack where clothes were piled up in the small cubicle.
Outside the military camp, in a small, mixed-race neighborhood, in a tiny apartment equipped with two computers, the man with the protruding mouth took off his headphones and asked in confusion:
"I didn't hear a few sentences clearly in the middle."
Another squinting man said, "After that woman's voice said 'Really?', I didn't hear clearly."
"Why are they so quiet in the back? Did they find out they were being eavesdropped on?" the man with the protruding mouth asked worriedly.
Squinting, he waved his hand and said, "Impossible. What they said afterward was perfectly normal. Besides, it doesn't matter. We heard quite a bit of stuff just now. As long as we can get by, it's fine."
The man with the protruding mouth didn't refute, but nodded and said, "Then report it to your superiors."
He picked up an old cell phone and made a call.
......
The commercial street next to the research building is a main street, and the restaurants on the street are all spacious, clean, and have plenty of ingredients.
Of course, they are all very expensive, but the team has a bonus, so they can afford it!
Yu Shuang ordered two large copper pots, and basically ordered all the vegetables and meats on the menu for the day, filling the whole table.
She also opened a bottle of wine.
In the post-apocalyptic world, everyone suffers from pollution. Tobacco and alcohol are hard currencies, but tobacco is extremely rare, with only a few bases in the southeast producing small quantities. Grain-based liquor is also a luxury item.
Yu Shuang thought that since they were hosting this time, she had to be generous, so she bought two bottles of grain liquor and half a case of cheap chemical liquor.
"Your drinking habits reflect your character, and now it's time to expose your true character!" Yu Shuang said with a smile as he opened the bottles, twisting one open at a time.
"Afraid of you? I'm invincible in our team, I can drink my way through the entire team!" Qin Tianshuo slammed his fist on the table and challenged.
Xu Le chimed in, "I don't believe it! Unless you fight Captain Yu to the death! Come on, fill up both captains' cups!"
With these three people around, it's hard for the atmosphere at the dinner table to be anything but good.
Yu Shuang got Qin Tianshuo so drunk he could barely stand, but Qin Tianshuo was still stubbornly insisting he was in the right place. The laughter and commotion from everyone almost lifted the roof off!
Chen Yuezhou sat in the main seat, and everyone was curious and respectful of him. They offered him many toasts, but he didn't put on airs and accepted all of them, which made everyone admire him even more.
Many people offered Qi An drinks, but when she drank, her face would turn red, and she would make her eyes look hazy, saying that she couldn't drink much. Yu Shuang and Zhuang Xiao would then drink for her.
Qi An rested his chin on his hand, smiled, and then stared blankly at the group of people laughing at the table.
Chen Yuezhou's gaze would occasionally drift towards her through the glass of wine and through the lingering steam from the mutton hot pot.
Yang Yuning was also looking at her; she had also been given quite a bit of alcohol and was now showing signs of intoxication.
Fueled by alcohol, he stared openly, his eyes never missing a beat.
Many people at the table, especially the perceptive young women, noticed something amiss and laughed sarcastically.
Qi An felt uneasy and used the excuse of going to the toilet to escape.
They had been eating and drinking for two hours, and the restaurant was now empty, both floors.
The private room was like two extremes, one noisy and the other quiet, and the sunlight outside the window had disappeared at some point, with the sky overcast and threatening rain.
Qi An pushed open the second-floor window, letting the damp wind blow in, and gazed at the sparsely populated street, lost in thought.
"Why is Dr. Qi always unhappy when he should be happy?"
Chen Yuezhou appeared out of nowhere, standing beside Qi An without anyone noticing, and asked.
He also pushed open a window, as if to sober up, but his eyes were clear and there was no trace of drunkenness.
Qi An thought this person also had a high alcohol tolerance.
She retorted, "Why should Chief Chen care whether I'm happy or not?"
"Just out of curiosity." Chen Yuezhou turned to look at her.
He already knew that Qi An had no family in the base, only teammates.
Her teammates clearly trusted and respected her, and they didn't hesitate to shield her from drinks and land, and it was only natural for them to protect her.
Chen Yuezhou couldn't understand why Qi An always seemed so preoccupied, with a lingering melancholy in his eyes.
Qi An glanced at him and thought to himself that he and Chen Xi were both top-notch in strength and appearance, and came from a large base with bright futures. So how come they seemed to be more and more bitter than little gourds in their mental world?
She wanted to turn and walk away, but remembering her business, she paused and simply sat on the windowsill, facing Chen Yuezhou:
"If I tell Chief Chen why I'm unhappy, can Chief Chen answer one question for me?"
Chen Yuezhou raised an eyebrow: "Tell me what the problem is first."
"Is Commander Chen going to participate in this major battle in the Northwest as a commander?" Qi An leaned closer and asked in a low voice.
Chen Yuezhou was surprised.
Qi An raised an eyebrow but said in a low voice, "Our team has been involved a lot, so we know a lot too."
Chen Yuezhou suppressed his surprise and, as if he understood, nodded: "Yes."
"What does Captain Chen think of our team's combat effectiveness?" Qi An asked again.
“These are two issues,” Chen Yuezhou said.
Qi An pursed his lips: "Can't you include one as a bonus?"
Chen Yuezhou laughed out loud, but said, "No. You have to answer one more question for me."
Qi An looked at him without speaking, and Chen Yuezhou asked, "Is your mental enhancement value really only 8?"
“Really, it’s in my file. If Chief Chen can find it, please do so,” Qi An said, then immediately followed up with:
"Does Commander Chen have the authority to select soldiers for combat from various bases? Will he consider our squad?"
Chen Yuezhou remained silent, looking into Qi An's anxious and expectant eyes, his smile growing ever stronger.
Qi An waited for a moment and felt that this person seemed to be playing a trick on her.
She stood up and said, "Then I'll go ask Yang Yuning; he'll definitely be joining the war too."
Yang Yuning comes from the North 1st Army and clearly has powerful backers. If they want to participate in the war, they should be able to find Yang Yuning.
Chen Yuezhou's smile vanished instantly. He took a step forward, completely blocking Qi An's path.
"No need to ask him, I can choose the team, and I'd be happy to include your team in mine. You guys are very strong."
This is the truth; Team Chengfeng 2 is very strong, especially Qi An, the Purifier.
If not... he definitely would have taken action and undermined the Central Plains Base No. 3.
Qi An took a step back, still having to tilt his head back quite high to meet Chen Yuezhou's gaze: "Well... thank you for your recognition, Captain Chen."
"It's your turn to answer the question. Why are you always unhappy?" Chen Yuezhou asked, looking down at her.
However, perhaps because they were too close, Chen Yuezhou clenched his fist when he asked the question again, feeling that it seemed a bit... ambiguous.
He suddenly felt an urge to back away and leave.
He really shouldn't have cared why Qi An was unhappy; he overstepped his bounds and acted irrationally...
But Qi An had already answered as promised. Her voice was low: "I'm unhappy because there were so many happy things before. I'm afraid that all of it is fake and will melt away like bubbles."
Chen Yuezhou was taken aback, and his clenched hand loosened.
A strong sense of empathy welled up in his heart.
