Chapter 67 Cultivation Chamber
After entering the building, Li Heng went to check on the progress of several key research projects as usual.
His two closest bodyguards were one more scholarly and the other more martial.
As Li Heng strolled leisurely forward, the guards from the sidelined area followed behind, methodically reporting on important matters at the base.
For most important matters, Li Heng would simply listen and let someone else handle them.
He would occasionally give a few instructions, and if it was a statement, it was a definitive conclusion on how the matter would be handled.
Wen, the guard, mentioned the secondary enhancement agent: "The strain has stabilized, and Base North 1 requires the synchronization of the virus's gene sequence and key protein structure."
He spoke of this very quickly, only mentioning it briefly.
The new base had long promised that the research and development results of the secondary enhancement agent would be shared with all bases.
This is also a safety measure.
Li Heng then said, "We can share, but we have to make a condition."
"Please speak." Guard Wen was somewhat surprised and quickly listened.
"Request permission from Base North 1 to access a classified file," Li Heng said quietly, glancing in one direction.
In one of the many buildings in that direction, Qi An was yawning as he got up to brush his teeth.
She scrolled through her phone, checking for any chat logs that hadn't been completely deleted.
It's quite clean; even the abstract doodles on the memo pad are gone.
Qi An recalled that yesterday she shared the information she had obtained from Gao Pingle with Tan Fu, and Tan Fu said that she also wanted to find a reason to renege on her promise and apply to access the classified files.
"My reason wasn't just a lie, it was genuine!" Qi An emphasized.
She suspected that the conscientious staff member in the archives probably had something to complain about:
Is studying history becoming fashionable lately?
Qi An had just finished washing up when he received a call from Zhou Wen.
She had promised to go see Gao Pingle again today, but the mother and son seemed impatient and came here instead.
Qi An put on his coat and hurried downstairs.
There were trees and flower beds downstairs. Gao Pingle, who usually stood in the shaded area with flowers and plants, couldn't help but take a step forward when he saw Qi An.
He took a step and was bathed in the morning light, surrounded by blooming honeysuckle and roses.
Qi An couldn't help but laugh and sat down on the bench with the mother and son.
She purified Gao Pingle twice yesterday. The second time was not as effective as the first time, but the shadow became smaller.
When she entered the spiritual world again, she saw that the lakeside cottage no longer had much running water, and the eaves shimmered in the sunlight.
Qi An admired it for a moment, then directly entered the void of darkness, searched for the shadowy figure, and beat it up.
This place is still a chase arena filled with fear, except that the fear comes from a shadowy figure, which has grown from a house to the size of a room.
Qi An withdrew, and Gao Pingle reluctantly let go.
"Does Lieutenant Qi have any plans for today? If there's nothing urgent, how about we take you for a stroll in the streets?" Zhou Wen, who hadn't slept a wink last night, was full of energy and suggested with a smile.
Qi An didn't make any arrangements, but Wang Zhuoran and the others probably already had many things planned out.
She agreed without hesitation: "Okay."
Gao Pingle originally disliked the outdoors, but since he could walk between his mother and Sister Qi, he reluctantly joined Qi Huanle.
The three people—two adults and one child—along with four guards who had changed into civilian clothes, plus the officer who received them, entered the largest commercial street in the main base.
The road to the new student base is not as wide as that of the North 1 base, but there are just as many shops of all sizes lining the road, which are crowded together and make it even more lively.
Qi An couldn't help but marvel at how prosperous and affluent the new student base was.
However, she didn't buy anything; she just browsed around.
Zhou Wen was in high spirits. She rarely had a holiday, and she kept talking about how summer was coming and she wanted to buy a new pair of shoes for Xiao Le's dad and a light jacket for Xiao Le.
Zhou Wen also wanted to buy something for Qi An, but Qi An declined. Unable to refuse any longer, he smiled and said, "A musical instrument, or perhaps some audio data that can be downloaded to my phone?"
"Let's go!" Zhou Wen didn't even look at the shoes anymore and led Qi An directly to a shop that repaired and recycled old electronic equipment.
The shop sign clearly states that there is music playing, and soft, enchanting piano music is also playing inside.
As Zhou Wen entered the store, Qi An spotted a familiar figure at the entrance and exclaimed with delight, "Chen Xi!"
The person turned around, their eyes also filled with surprise.
But Qi An discovered that it wasn't Chen Xi.
She couldn't recognize who it was at first, until the person called out, "Sister Qi...?"
Qi An confirmed it: it was the spear-wielding youth, Chen Ji.
He was both surprised and delighted, and wanted to stride over, but seemed a little uneasy.
They had a past conflict, which might be why the boy was uncomfortable, but Qi An no longer cared.
Let's talk about her blood sample; who else doesn't have it?
Qi An simply pulled Gao Pingle into the shop, exchanging a few pleasantries as they went: "I have a mission, so I came to the new student base. Today is my second day at the base, and I haven't had a chance to contact my friends yet."
Chen Ji glanced at the little boy being led by Qi An, and the little boy also glanced at him because of the word "sister".
The gazes weren't friendly, but Gao Pingle avoided them first.
This person moved even closer to Qi An.
Compared to Chen Xi, Chen Ji was not as calm and cold as a rock, but rather like a cluster of cold fire, somewhat fierce.
The little boy was really scared after being stared at for a minute.
Qi An noticed this and couldn't help but glare at Chen Ji.
Chen Ji's eyes, which had a somewhat fierce look, revealed a smile.
"Slightly neurotic," Qi An thought to himself, before taking out his own earphones, plugging them into his boss's old phone, and focusing intently on listening to music.
A melodious and upbeat jazz tune immediately lifted her spirits, making her head nod slightly to the rhythm. During the break between songs, she was in a good mood again and asked Chen Ji a question:
What are you here to buy?
This place does sell headphones and used mobile phones, but is Chen Ji also allowed to own a mobile phone?
Chen Ji turned his head away, "Buying... is just a casual stroll. I just finished a mission and have a few days off."
Qi An didn't ask any more questions and bought all the audio sources the boss had.
She only had Zhou Wen pay the contribution points for the light music part; for the rest, she asked the officer directly.
Without a word, the officer paid the bill. After leaving the store, he thoughtfully added, "Lieutenant Colonel Qi has fought alongside our base's soldiers on several battlefields."
"Since you've come all this way, do you need me to check if any of them are not on duty?"
"Okay," Qi An readily agreed.
Chen Ji hesitated for a moment, but after confirming that Qi An would stay at the base for two more days, he still took his leave.
The officer went to contact the Martial God Team, Qi An continued shopping with Gao Pingle and her son, and Chen Ji awkwardly looked at a few more shops before heading towards the east gate of the base.
After returning from his mission, he applied to his superiors for permission to visit Satellite Base No. 3.
His application had been approved, and he waited until the afternoon to hitch a ride with a close-range patrol team.
The vehicle passed through vast rice paddies and forests, and stopped in front of a small base on the easternmost side of the base complex, in a somewhat secluded location.
This small base is not small in scale, but most of the buildings are short and dilapidated compared to the main base, and seem to belong to a different era.
But what is surrounded by dilapidated buildings seems to be a product of a future generation.
That's where the special child development pods of the newborn base are located. It's a huge, futuristic, and aesthetically pleasing four-pointed star with a silver-gray streamlined shape!
In a sense, this is the "home" of all clones.
