Chapter 85 The Time of a Song

Chapter 85 The Time of a Song

“I’ve seen it before… her,” Qi An thought.

In mirrors, in puddles, in every medium that can reflect and preserve images.

The human face quickly faded and transformed back into an alien.

But its eyes did not close, and it kept looking at Qi An until the last second before it lost its luster!

Qi An seemed stunned for a long time, until someone came running from afar and a helicopter roared in the air.

The people rushing over were Su Qingran and Tang Long.

The two rushed forward and saw Yu Shuang and Qi An, as well as Zhao Bohan in the distance. They couldn't decide which side to go to first.

But the medical staff who came down from the helicopter solved the problem, and Su Qingran rushed towards Zhao Bohan.

These helicopters weren't the two that helped fight the White Priest.

Those two planes that went to clear out the remaining Zerg nests have been destroyed by the Ash Priests; this one came from the base.

The medical staff dared not approach the Ash Priest's body. It was only after the combat personnel pulled Qi An and Yu Shuang from the pool of blood that they hurriedly surrounded the two.

Medical staff busied themselves around Qi An's legs, wrapping them up so she could barely move, before they were about to hoist her directly onto the helicopter.

But Qi An grabbed one of them: "Wait! I'll wait here until the body is pulled up!"

The man was taken aback, but Qi An didn't look at him; instead, he looked at the river.

The medical staff were somewhat anxious. There was radiation here, and Qi An's injuries were also very serious!

He tried to persuade him but to no avail, and he grew somewhat angry. However, a man who appeared to be the company commander of the combat personnel stopped him.

"Let's do as she wishes, and we'll keep watch for a while."

No one can be forced to claim the heroes of this great battle.

Yu Shuang, Zhao Bohan, and the others boarded the plane and left. Qi An leaned against a banyan tree, watching as several all-terrain vehicles transported more people over.

People wearing protective suits went into the water and explored inch by inch.

The amount of things that can be retrieved is very limited, because most of the team members have mutated.

But after waiting for more than an hour, the person, though mutilated, still retained the appearance of someone who had been alive and was pulled out of the water!

Her skin was pale and bluish, and slightly swollen, but her gentle features remained as they had in life.

His lips curled slightly upward, as if he had died with a sense of relief.

But his brows seemed to be furrowed—he was only 25 years old, and there were still many things he wanted to do, many things he was unwilling to accept.

Qi An watched as the zipper of the body bag was zipped up.

The operations captain said softly, "Please go back. We will properly take the remains of Captain Feng back with us."

This is true heroism.

But if it weren't for the persistence of this member of the Stars team, the salvage operation might have been delayed for several more hours, and the body's appearance would not have been preserved so dignifiedly.

There are also fallen insects in the forest, and there are many mutated groups of 1 and 2, making the cleanup work complicated and messy.

Qi An nodded and was lifted into the car.

She fell asleep and missed the plane landing at the base.

The tarmac was packed with people, and thunderous applause erupted when the stretcher was brought down.

Peng Qiao hesitated and didn't whistle, but he stood on his tiptoes and clapped his hands until they were red!

More than just the top player in the entire server, this is his idol! He's the backbone of all the players in the server!

The people who had spontaneously gathered in the command hall all came here on their own, leaving Staff Officer Yu, who had stormed out early, feeling a bit awkward.

He came by helicopter with the North 1 team and two sets of "Weaver Girl" costumes.

Before he could find a vehicle to take him away from the base, news of victory arrived.

Yu Jun was bewildered in the wind.

How can we win if we lose our killer weapon?

Did those people somehow manage to get on Lady Luck's good side or what?!

But victory was ultimately a good thing; he saved his life, but lost face and dared not approach the group of squads again.

After that, the only place where the first group of teams gathered was the hospital.

Qi An woke up to find himself surrounded by darkness.

It was dark, but not quiet; a cold voice, tinged with anger, came from the doorway:

“You can’t go into her room! If you try to force your way in, I’ll shoot.”

After those words were spoken, there was silence at the doorway for a few seconds, then footsteps continued to approach.

The click of a pistol being cocked made Qi An momentarily dazed.

Wu Han's gun was almost pressed against Chen Ji's head, her beautiful eyes filled with coldness!

Chen Ji finally stopped walking because Qi An, lying on the hospital bed, turned to look at him.

She was a little dazed after just waking up, and when she saw him, she was a little surprised, but her eyes were very calm.

There was little hostility or wariness; she blinked her almond-shaped eyes and slightly upturned her full lips, seemingly as a polite greeting to his arrival.

Chen Ji stopped walking, his tense face relaxed, and a slight smile appeared on his face.

“I’ll come again tomorrow…” he said, adding a somewhat awkward suffix: “Sister.”

Qi An raised an eyebrow, and Wu Han saw it. When he looked back at Chen Jishi, his lips were pursed like knives.

Chen Ji placed a paper bag at the door and turned to leave.

He even brought some things with him: painkillers and nutrient solution, all produced by the new student base—definitely good stuff.

Wu Han pursed his lips and watched Qi An examine the paper bag for a minute before remembering to call the doctor to check on Qi An's condition.

This person clearly isn't good at taking care of others.

However, Qi An was indeed fine, in good spirits, and his leg injury was recovering quickly as usual.

Yu Shuang was fine, but Zhao Bohan developed obvious symptoms of chronic radiation sickness.

It was the third day since they withdrew from the battlefield, and Feng Xu's body had already been cremated.

Of the 112 soldiers who were the first to enter the forest to "reclaim" the land during this major battle, 48 died, 13 were seriously injured or disabled and may be discharged, and 13 others were killed.

The glittering ranking list had long been taken down, but when Qi An and Yu Shuang, each in a wheelchair, were pushed into the hall, they still attracted everyone's attention.

The hall immediately parted to allow them to be at the front to participate in the memorial service.

The base remains peaceful. The Southern Legion of Fallen Insects has lost its leader, so for the next year or two, the base will be so peaceful it will be boring.

The bored palm leaves swayed in the wind as they always had, and the bored sunlight quietly entered the room, decorating the row of young portraits one by one.

Busy people will continue their tedious busyness, and every day at the base will be no different from the day before.

Why don't the soldiers from South China count as going home?

Qi An accepted the guitar that Shi Qingqing gave her.

For soldiers without relatives, their belongings are disposed of by their comrades.

Shi Qingqing, the only survivor, gave the guitar, which had been gently touched countless times, to Qi An.

Qi An gently plucked the strings; though he couldn't play, he sang a song:

"Wait for the smoke of gunpowder to dissipate with the wind."

He will see the vast starry sky.

The distant, rolling rivers and mountains reflect the passing years.

Wait for dawn to embrace the sunshine.

He would be pleased with his freedom.

Waiting for the spring breeze to arrive, let us pour a cup of wine in celebration...

This journey from north to south was too long, and eventually even the patience of midwinter was exhausted.

The team returned to Base 1 in the Western Regions.

The nights gradually shortened, and the heavy snow had stopped falling for a long time. One day, the heating suddenly stopped working, and the wind began to blow from the warm east.

Spring arrived in 2056.
