Chapter Seventeen: Acquaintance at This Time
In Qi An's consciousness, when the purification was halfway complete, the scene suddenly changed, becoming a snow-white room.
She lay on the operating table in the middle of the room, countless instruments connected to her body, long needles being inserted into her flesh!
Qi An felt immense fear, then realized that this was not her; she was still purifying. This was Jiu's memory, and he was the one being stabbed!
The scene shifts again to a dark corridor. Qi An, possessed by Jiu, stands outside a room and sees a man's dejected and pained back through a small window in the door.
Qi An also felt pain, the pain of a young boy, and immense confusion.
Suddenly, the memories receded like a receding tide, and Qi An felt a tightness all over his body, as if he were being forcibly pulled out of his mental world by this squeezing force.
She returned to the high tower of the thermal power plant, surrounded by the sounds of wind and shouts, and was being held tightly as if she were being embedded into someone's body!
It was so tight that Qi An felt suffocated and could barely breathe.
She had encountered this situation many times before, and she knew without a doubt that the patient was acting out again, so she struggled to break free.
The two captains had already grabbed the boy's arms, which had returned to normal, and pulled him back with all their might.
It won't budge!
It was the dove that came to its senses, realized the situation, and suddenly let go.
Yu Shuang and Zhao Bohan almost tripped and fell on their butts.
The situation was awkward, because after the transformation, all of Jiu's clothes were torn off, leaving only a small part of his lower body covered.
He had just embraced Qi An while naked, and now he was facing Qi An naked.
Qi An watched helplessly as the boy's beautiful eyes lowered, his skin turned red, and his hands clenched so tightly that the veins bulged!
It was Tang Long who reacted quickly and threw over a camouflage jacket, which the boy picked up in the blink of an eye and wrapped around himself, thus slightly saving the situation.
There is no doubt that Jiu has recovered; the traces of the mutation have faded, and his eyes are clear and bright.
Qi An actually succeeded in purifying a level 4 mutated person! Her teammates looked at her as if she were a god, and Zhao Bohan frowned slightly.
A level 5 mutation is a complete mutation, while a level 4 mutation usually means a death sentence. Qi An truly saved this boy's life.
"Welcome back, comrade," Yu Shuang said, but she didn't shake hands with the boy. Instead, she and Su Qingran checked on Qi An's condition.
Qi An is fine, but the pollution level has risen to 50%, which is a mid-level Level 2 mutation.
She swallowed two more small blue pills and dragged herself, utterly exhausted, to a corner to meditate.
The young boy's gaze followed her intently, without missing a beat.
But he was quickly interrupted. Zhuang Xiao had just run to the car and grabbed a complete set of combat gear, which Zhao Bohan took and handed to him.
The boy then looked away and quickly put on his clothes in a corner.
Zhuang Xiao's clothes were a little small for him, and the trouser legs were stretched up uncomfortably.
However, no one paid attention to this. Zhao Bohan asked, "Have you relayed the intelligence about the Mother Nest back to the base?"
The boy said, "Before contacting you, I contacted the base radio station to transmit intelligence, but the communication quality was poor, and they may not have received everything."
The mother nest is not in Hualin County, but in Oroqen City, about 100 kilometers northwest of Hualin County, in an abandoned underground mine.
Hualin County is a decoy outpost used to attract human attention in order to hide the true location of the mother nest.
Moreover, if the mother nest is attacked, a brigade of troops stationed in Hualin County can rush to its aid or block the human army heading north.
The insect strongholds surrounding Oroqen City are far more numerous than just those in Hualin County; the mother nest is extremely large and is still expanding.
He told them all the information about the mother nest in one go.
This is about spreading the risk – no matter what dangers we encounter later, as long as one person here can return alive, they can bring back intelligence.
Although Zhuang Xiao had previously stated that there was indeed a mother nest, the team members were still completely relieved and overjoyed to hear Jiu say it himself!
The Great Mother Nest! This intelligence is invaluable! Their reconnaissance mission has yielded tremendous results!
Team 2 is the best!
Zhao Bohan remained the most composed and asked the question he most wanted to ask: "Did you kill all those fallen insects outside by yourself?"
"Yes, I'm short on ammunition," the boy admitted casually, seemingly ashamed that killing these few fallen worms had caused him to mutate.
The team members looked at each other, then fell silent.
There will always be gods in this world, like the one before us, the God of War!
Considering that he traveled hundreds of miles to and from the Fallen Insect Mother Nest, his current achievement is almost unbelievable!
However, even the God of War has his downfall. When he returned to the vicinity of Hualin County, his reconnaissance ability was reduced due to the excessive accumulation of pollution, which unfortunately exposed him and attracted the pursuit of the Fallen Insects from both his strongholds.
If it weren't for Qi An, his life in the human sense would have ended.
"Thank you very much," the boy said sincerely.
"I have to thank my sister Qi the most; she insisted on saving you!" Zhuang Xiao said, hands on her hips.
"Her surname is Qi, what's her name?" Jiu asked softly, looking at the petite girl sitting cross-legged.
“Qi An, the ‘An’ in ‘safe and sound’,” Zhuang Xiao replied. “Isn’t my sister Qi’s name easy to remember and sounds nice?”
"Qi An..." the boy murmured repeatedly. He looked at her brows furrowed as she suppressed the pollution, and he couldn't help but frown as well, taking a step forward.
Zhuang Xiao found it a bit strange, while Zhao Bohan felt a strange sense of responsibility and displeasure. He blocked the boy's view and addressed the group in the tower:
"Replace the filter elements of your respective face shields, collect insect oil in groups, and inspect the vehicles. Be quick, we'll be leaving in 20 minutes!"
Such intense blood energy will inevitably attract more fallen insects; 20 minutes is the limit they can stay.
Zhao Bohan dragged Jiu to get his car repaired.
Twenty minutes of deep meditation only reduced Qi An's pollution level by a reasonable 15%, considering that she had been purifying continuously, and the last purification was extremely difficult.
She was exhausted, but she forced herself to stay awake and followed Yu Shuang out of the cooling tower and into the car.
The sandstorm outside seemed to be subsiding. The boy stood beside his car and looked at Qi An the moment she stepped out the door.
Perhaps noticing that the signs of Qi An's strange behavior had faded, his slightly furrowed brows relaxed a little, and he hesitated before speaking.
Qi An noticed his gaze, looked up, smiled kindly, and then got into their own car.
The car door closed, and the boy stood there, somewhat dazed.
The wind has really died down this time, and visibility is now around 300 meters.
But just as they expected, the Fallen Insect pursuers arrived quickly and caught up with their convoy!
