Chapter Sixty-Nine: No one will like the real me

Chapter Sixty-Nine: No one will like the real me

The gas that Mr. Qian used was not fully purified, so its origin must be illegitimate.

Qi An guessed that Xiang Shiyang knew the location of the base's black market, but he wasn't sure.

After all, Xiang Shiyang and his companion had only worked at the "Looking Back" store for a month. Would Boss Qian trust them and let them buy gas on the black market?

Looking back now, it seems like I really trusted them.

Qi An carefully climbed out of the bushes, shook off the dirt and insects from his body, and like everyone who enters and leaves the black market, tiptoed out of the area.

She was familiar with the base in the dark, knowing every road from the small commercial street to the black market area.

Before dawn, when there was no one on the road, Qi An carefully walked through all the paths before going home to change his clothes.

As usual, it was a full day of training; everyone was tired but fulfilled.

Qi An received a phone call and several messages from Xiang Shiyang, all urging him to come up with work-related matters.

She was very serious about giving a perfunctory answer.

The sunset today is even more beautiful than yesterday's; the fiery red clouds on the horizon seem to be burning, magnificent and spectacular.

Many soldiers who weren't particularly romantic were stunned on the way to the canteen, and the team members were no exception.

But as they stopped, a group of male soldiers, along with one or two female soldiers, stopped not far from them. One of the male soldiers, who was quite handsome, waved to Su Qingran.

Su Qingran received the text message just as they set off for the canteen, and then gestured to the male soldier to "wait a moment".

She turned to look at the rest of the group. Yu Shuang laughed, "Our little Su has another appointment? Let's go, let's go!"

Zhuang Xiao glanced at the male soldier and snorted, "This one is different from the last one."

I said, "How many have you changed this year alone?"

"He's not my boyfriend, we're just hanging out," Su Qingran said casually.

"Just playing around? Not a single one you like?" Yu Shuang asked gossipily.

Su Qingran, who had her back to the group and was quickly letting her hair down and taking a small mirror from her coat pocket to fix her face, glanced back at them upon hearing this and whispered, "Not many of them are truly sincere..."

Qi An was slightly taken aback, while Tang Long asked in confusion, "Since they're not sincere, why do you still go and play with them?"

Su Qingran always made appointments. Every time they returned from a mission, Su Qingran would spend her free time playing with all sorts of men and women.

But it seems like she's never had a boyfriend.

The question created an awkward atmosphere, and Su Qingran put the mirror back and remained silent for a moment.

Qi An and Yu Shuang spoke almost simultaneously:

"Go if you want to..."

"Their popularity and ability to attend—isn't that a valid reason?"

The two voices, one low and one high, were both spoken with great determination. Su Qingran looked up at them, her eyes soft, as if she were smiling.

The coward is afraid of being alone, and that's her reason.

Su Qingran didn't believe that anyone could truly like her, so she envied Qi An.

"Xiao Qi is the most popular." Su Qingran looked in another direction into the distance, smiled teasingly, and turned to run away.

Following her gaze, Qi An saw Yang Yuning bathed in the fiery glow of the setting sun.

There were no tall buildings where the man stood, only barely visible barbed wire and distant tree shadows. He strode over, as if he were draped in the colorful clouds of the sky.

Qi An stared blankly until Yang Yuning walked up to her.

“You today…” He was stunned when he saw Qi An as he approached.

After wiping himself down, Qi An changed out of his training clothes, still wearing the same clothes he wore yesterday.

She rarely dresses up properly. Even now, without makeup and with her hair casually tied in a ponytail, her rosy cheeks and bright eyes, which seem to hold starlight, make her an unmissable bright spot in the crowd.

Yang Yuning's heart pounded like a drum. This handsome man, bathed in the glow of the sunset, momentarily forgot what he was going to say next.

"Have you eaten yet? If not, come eat with us in the cafeteria?" Qi An also sensed the unusual atmosphere and had no choice but to speak first.

Yang Yuning snapped out of her daze and quickly nodded.

The group entered the cafeteria. Everyone in the team except Qi An felt superfluous and buried themselves in their food, stuffing themselves in 10 minutes before disappearing in a flash.

Before Yu Shuangshuang appeared, half of her face was filled with excitement and gossip, while the other half was filled with displeasure and worry. She had an urge to twist Yang Yuning's head off.

Qi An and Yang Yuning walked out of the cafeteria alone.

As the sun sets, the sky turns a gentle blue.

Listening to her own heartbeat and the footsteps of the person beside her, Yang Yuning finally stopped and looked at Qi An when the surging tide of emotions could no longer be suppressed:

I'm leaving tomorrow.

Qi An hummed in agreement, already guessing what was going on.

The battlefield is dangerous, and this may be a true farewell, a final goodbye! Yang Yuning knew that he had to express his feelings at this moment.

"I like you," he said softly, bending down his tall, imposing frame.

Qi An looked up into his eyes.

Burning with longing and pure joy, her image was reflected in his dark pupils, as if they could encompass her entire being!

Qi An reached out and cupped Yang Yuning's head in his hands.

Yang Yuning froze, about to tremble with excitement, but then realized that Qi An was resonating with him spiritually.

He pulled Qi An into his arms and, while the resonance wasn't too deep and he could still control his body, led her back into the woods.

But after only a minute, Qi An released his head, looked at him, and actually shed tears!

Yang Yuning was stunned again; all of Qi An's reactions were beyond his expectations.

He cupped Qi An's face in his hands, "Why...are you crying?"

He had never seen Qi An cry, not even when Qi An was bitten by a snake!

Yang Yuning's heart felt like a crumpled piece of paper soaked in acid. He couldn't bear to see Qi An cry, and he kept wiping away her tears with both hands, but the more he wiped, the more tears she shed.

His voice trembled slightly, "Why are you crying? Did I do something wrong? Do you not like me? Or have you suffered some other injustice?"

He paused for a moment when he asked the last question, and his entire demeanor changed: "Have you suffered any other grievances?"

But Qi An's voice trailed off as he murmured, "I...feel...your feelings. How come...it seems like you genuinely like me?"

Why did he genuinely like her?

Isn't it just a temporary attachment that arises after purification?

Could someone truly offer her a burning heart? Could a heart truly contain a little monster?

Qi An reached out and clutched the fabric at his chest.

It really hurts.

No one will like the real her.

When this realization came to her in front of a sincere heart, she was truly in pain, to the point that tears streamed down her face.
