Chapter 28 A Turn of Events
Chen Xi roughly understood.
He only roughly understood why Lin Jiaran was so fixated on these questions of "who is he, what is he".
Lin Jiaran could tell from his expression that they were somewhat talking at cross purposes, so she let go of his clothes and plopped back down on the bench.
She pursed her lips as she watched Chen Xi's retreating figure.
This one is definitely different.
He was the only one among the first batch of clones to survive. He had no genetic diseases and almost perfectly inherited Chen Yuezhou's basic abilities, while also improving upon them.
He was the research team's first "rising star," and every day he grew up healthy filled them with immense joy and amazement!
He even gave him the name "Xi," which shows his affection for him and the high hopes he had for him!
Therefore, Chen Xi was born unique and was pampered, so how could she resonate with these "mass-produced products"?
Lin Jiaran's lips curled so much that her chin almost popped out. She thought about how she used to try to become Chen Xi's "one and only," and how she was extremely wary and angry at Qi An when they first met! How childish!
Chen Xi can look at whoever she wants; it's none of her business!
She has a lot to do and many friends to see; she's very busy!
Lin Jiaran jumped to his feet, patted the fallen wisteria blossoms off his clothes, put his hands behind his back, and shuffled away.
However, before leaving, he kindly told Chen Xi, "Qi An has woken up, and Chen Yuezhou is with her."
Chen Xi was pleasantly surprised, but then frowned.
......
Qi An briefly woke up for two hours, saw several groups of people who came to visit him, and then fell asleep again.
After three days of intermittent eating and sleeping, she was not only able to get out of bed, but even felt that she could jog 5 kilometers again! So she began to spend half a day or a few hours participating in the large-scale cleanup of pollutants in various parts of the base, as well as the large-scale investigation of pollution levels by military and civilians.
Yu Shuang was right. Their team is now famous. They're so famous that wherever Qi An goes, if there are soldiers around, almost everyone will recognize her.
Those who recognized her mostly let out a scream, some loud, some soft, some surprised, some delighted:
"That's Qi An! It really is her!"
This scream will surely attract a large number of soldiers and civilians who are working together or queuing to be purified. Those who don't know will ask, "Who is Qi An?", while those who do know will be surprised and sneer.
"Qi An doesn't know? The purifier of Team Wind Riding 2! The one whose name is on the commendation list, the one who received the 'Protector' medal!"
The questioner immediately exclaimed "Oh!"—everyone had seen that bright red list; the base was currently in an atmosphere of chaos and sorrow, war fever, and hero worship fervor.
The questioner immediately cast a somewhat puzzled yet infinitely admiring glance at Qi An.
The doubts likely stemmed from the contradiction between Qi An's overly delicate appearance and her illustrious achievements, as well as from the question of what specific deeds she had accomplished.
In fact, because the specific deeds were not specified in the list of commendations, some people in the military had questioned what Chengfeng 2 Team had done and how they had received so many medals. They wondered if they had connections in the General Headquarters.
The base's network was damaged and restored after three days of emergency repairs. Such questions appeared on the intranet website, and some people even spoke to Yu Shuang about it.
Yu Shuang was busy and didn't bother arguing with people of that level, so she just laughed it off.
But the very next day, when the Commander-in-Chief was receiving the combat team and engineering team from Central Plains No. 1, he summoned Yu Shuang and Zhao Bohan to accompany him. When the Commander-in-Chief's bodyguards went to the canteen for a meal, they chatted without lowering their voices, clearly recounting the achievements of the Wind Riding Team 2 in protecting the 3rd Regiment Commander as they stormed into the Fallen Insect Nest and activated their weapons.
The tide turned dramatically, both online and offline.
[Damn it, I told you before! There would be a major battle at our base, and they're here to guard it! Everyone calls me a "prophet"!!]
This is the title of a post on the website "Abstract Little Green Man," and all the comments below are like this:
[6! The Prophet!]
Is the original poster about to awaken a "prophetic" ability?
[Do you have some inside information, bro? This Team 2 is pretty weird.]
[They were wicked, but they did it in a righteous way; they truly protected and saved the base! What right do you have to spout nonsense? From now on, if I see anyone criticizing Team Chengfeng 2, I'll go after them through the internet!]
Indeed, they are no longer part of the base's land defense force, yet they still risk so much to fight for the base.
Respect true warriors!
The last post effectively concluded the feud between Team Chengfeng 2 and other teams. The remaining posts that garnered significant attention are:
Will Team Chengfeng 2 stay at the base and form a new team? Will their captain, Yu Shuang, even become the new leader of Team 3?
The following posts then became lively again.
Our commander isn't dead yet! Who the hell is cursing him?!
No one is cursing Regiment Commander Jiang; he did indeed perform a great service. The 2nd Regiment Commander became the new Commander-in-Chief, and the 3rd Regiment Commander should at least be a Chief of Staff. All three regimental commander positions need to be re-elected.
[Wasn't the selection of the 3rd Regiment Commander supposed to be the Qingyan Team's General Commander already decided internally? Some people are saying it's the Chengfeng Team's General Commander. Directly promoting Yu Shuang, skipping ranks, doesn't seem to follow the rules.]
[What nonsense about breaking the rules! These are chaotic times! Some people rise to the top overnight! I wholeheartedly support Yu Shuang becoming the commander of the 3rd Regiment! From now on, our 3rd Regiment will also have a fresh start!]
Both the military and civilians were busy, and Qi An only managed to glance at his phone briefly during a break from the purification process (when he was being treated like a glittering golden statue).
Upon seeing this, she quickly sent a message to Yu Shuang:
[The captain heard you might be staying at the base as a regimental commander?]
Yu Shuang: [Who said that? That's a rumor!]
Qi An: [So where will our team go next?]
Yu Shuang: [It's a new base, the original arrangements remain unchanged.]
There are basically no more fallen insects in the base, but for safety reasons, soldiers are still on guard when the engineering team repairs the high-voltage cables on the perimeter wall.
The person leading the protection team was Yu Shuang.
She sat on the close-in weapon turret, letting out a slightly frustrated sigh.
Zhang Kuanxin really did mention to her the idea of making her the new commander of the 3rd Regiment. When he brought it up, his tone was so sincere and full of anticipation!
Even though Yu Shuang knew that the new base would be much larger than the Central Plains No. 3 base, she was still very tempted.
Commander! Could Wu Zirui and Liu Hui have imagined that Yu Shuang would reach the same rank as them in just two months?
However, after Zhang Kuanxin submitted the application, the feedback from the headquarters was:
[The application for Team Chengfeng 2 to join the new base has been approved, and their positions have been determined and will be sent out tomorrow. This cannot be changed.]
Yu Shuang suddenly felt annoyed!
That application was submitted far too early!
Who could have imagined that such a major event could happen at the old base in just two weeks?!
However, although they still had to go to the new base, everyone's rank was promoted by one level!
She's a colonel now!
If she achieves just one more merit, wouldn't she become a general?!
Unfortunately, my cousin is gone, as are her parents, grandparents, and other relatives.
She still remembers when she was little, one of her cousins got into a top university in the capital. Her grandfather, smoking a pipe, squinted and sighed:
"Our Yu family's ancestral graves are emitting auspicious smoke! I have to go burn some paper money for them!"
If her grandfather were still alive, and knew that a general was about to be born into the family, he would have bought up all the yellow paper in the village store! He would have burned it all day long!
The wind was a bit strong, and Yu Shuang swung her legs, looking at the hazy mountain shadows and tree curtains where the sky and earth met.
Some vivid memories remain, but she can no longer recall what her parents and grandparents look like.
