Chapter 23 A Supermarket Filled with a Foul Smell

"Let's rest here for a few days and set off again once our injuries have healed."

After a while, Shen Nanxing spoke to the three of them again.

Yunhua and Yunfan had no objections.

Jiang Nian'an nodded to Shen Nanxing.

They were all injured, especially the burns on the backs of Shen Nanxing and the other two, which needed to be properly treated.

"There are just two rooms here. An'an will have one by herself, and the three of us will have one."

Shen Nanxing then explained the arrangements for the night, "The three of us will take turns keeping watch tonight, as for An'an..."

He looked at Jiang Nian'an, paused, and then said, "None of the three of us are very good at cooking, so we'll have to trouble An'an to do her part and help us improve our lives when we can't even eat bread anymore."

“No problem,” Jiang Nian’an nodded in agreement.

Trading occasional cooking for a good night's sleep every day from now on is a worthwhile trade.

Most importantly, she herself couldn't stand eating bread every day.

After the agreement was made, Shen Nanxing asked Yunhua to bring out some water to wash himself.

The four of them were covered in blood and sweat, making them incredibly sticky.

The limit for a level one water-type ability user is 50 liters of water.

Shen Nanxing gave half of it to Jiang Nian'an, and the three of them shared the other half.

They then asked Jiang Nian'an to take three clean pairs of pants from their backpack.

Because of the injury on my back, I took off my shirt while applying medicine and didn't put it back on. I can only go shirtless until the injury heals.

All three had excellent figures, but in Jiang Nian'an's eyes, none of them were as fragrant as a piece of char siu.

Char siu is edible, but what's the use of their great figures? Are they just there to wash clothes?

ー( ̄~ ̄)ξ

It's not as clean as a washing machine.

Jiang Nian'an put away the refrigerator and power cord, then carried the water back to her room to clean up.

Even though Shen Nanxing had given her half of the water, it was still not enough for her.

She took out a lot more water from her spatial storage and also glanced at the blue egg.

It was still crunching and gnawing at the crystal core.

I tried so hard but it didn't work.

Jiang Nian'an curled the corners of her lips, then looked away.

Carefully avoiding the wound, she thoroughly washed herself from head to toe, changed into clean clothes, and then carried a bucket of murky sewage out.

The three people outside had also finished cleaning up.

Shen Nanxing stepped forward, took the bucket of water from her, and carried it into the bathroom.

I didn't pour it out; I kept it to flush the toilet.

After Shen Nanxing came out of the bathroom, Jiang Nian'an took out the nearly eight hundred crystal cores.

"Let's absorb these crystal cores while we have time to recover," she said, looking at the three of them.

“Yes.” Shen Nanxing had the same thought.

In the end, Jiang Nian'an received 314 pieces, while Shen Nanxing and the other two each received 158 pieces.

Jiang Nian'an gave 100 to Xiao Qinglong and kept the rest to improve her strength.

The little green dragon was simply too slow at consuming the crystal core.

After absorbing the crystal core, the four of them stayed in the house to recover from their injuries.

By the third day, Jiang Nian'an's abrasions had almost healed, while the burns on Shen Nanxing and the other two were still quite severe. They could move around a bit, but they still couldn't travel long distances.

Especially the long and treacherous roads.

By the fifth day, Yunhua and Yunfan's injuries had almost healed, but Shen Nanxing's burns on his back would need to rest for another two days.

Jiang Nian'an silently calculated the time when the rat swarm would arrive.

There's still time.

Two days later, Shen Nanxing's back injury was no longer a major concern.

The four immediately decided to gather another batch of supplies and then headed towards Beijing.

First, there's the means of transportation.

Their previous vehicle was destroyed in the explosion, so they needed another one.

Fortunately, there is a 4S store nearby.

Shen Nanxing picked a car with good performance and a large space, while Jiang Nian'an and the other two found all the bulk gasoline stored in the store.

After manually filling the car with gas, Jiang Nian'an put away the remaining gasoline.

If the outside temperature is too high, leaving gasoline in the car still poses a certain safety hazard.

The car's navigation system still works.

Shen Nanxing quickly pulled up a map of the nearby area and found a supermarket 8km away from them, so he immediately drove there.

Jiang Nian'an stared blankly at the scenery receding outside the window.

Yunfan and the other man were dozing off in the back seat.

Ten minutes later, Shen Nanxing slowly parked the car in front of the supermarket.

"Yunhua, you stay here and watch the car. An'an and Yunfan, come inside with me to find supplies."

"Okay," the three replied.

"roar--"

As soon as I stepped inside, a zombie pounced at my side.

Yunfan cleaved its head off with a single blow, then quickly dug out the crystal core. Carrying the knife, he took a few quick steps and caught up with Jiang Nian'an and the other person who had already gone inside.

The entire supermarket was filled with a rotten, sour, and nauseating smell.

The fresh produce and refrigerated/frozen sections in the upper right corner, as well as the adjacent fruit section, were particularly foul-smelling.

Not only did it stink, but it was also swarming with flies as big as a human thumb, densely packed and constantly wriggling.

From a distance, it looked like a dark, dense mass, forming a small, black ocean.

It's disgusting and creepy.

The ground was also muddy.

Rotten fruit, the carrion of zombies, the severed limbs of survivors, and various kinds of excrement...

Mixed together and trampled into mud, you can occasionally see white maggots twisting and wriggling in the mud.

The foul-smelling, nauseating yellow liquid was flowing everywhere, and you could easily step in it if you weren't careful. Some unidentified worms were crawling in it.

Cockroaches and other unidentified insects dart among them from time to time.
