'roar--'
Once it recovered, the black fox roared at Jiang Nian'an and the other two again, its front paws pawing at the ground, clearly eager to attack.
"Sister, leave this black fox to me and Little Silver. You guys take a look at this lump of mud and see what it is!"
Xiao Longzhan looked at the muddy creature that was still wriggling and trying to crawl out, a look of disgust flashing in his eyes.
"You guys guard this thing, I'll go!"
Shen Nanxing looked at the mud creature that seemed to have no intention of attacking and held down Xiao Longzhan, who was carrying a large iron hammer.
Xiao Longzhan pursed his lips, but ultimately accepted Shen Nanxing's kindness.
"Then be careful, that black fox also smells like Little Black Ball."
Xiao Longzhan looked at Shen Nanxing and, concerned, offered a word of reminder.
"But for some reason, its aura is very unstable, sometimes strong and sometimes weak."
Xiao Longzhan looked up at the wary Black Fox and said in a low voice.
"Okay, I understand. You stay here and protect An'an."
Shen Nanxing gently pinched his little face, and gave him the same words of advice with concern.
The black fox was indeed unusually large, but it didn't pose much of a threat to him.
"Don't worry, with me here, my sister will definitely be safe."
Xiao Longzhan patted his chest and assured Shen Nanxing.
Feeling cared for by the two men, Jiang Nian'an's eyes were filled with subtle smiles. "Brother Chen, catch."
She tossed Shen Nanxing's knife over, saying, "Be careful."
"Um!"
Shen Nanxing caught it and turned to face the black fox.
Little Silver and Little Blood Fox followed Shen Nanxing silently into the bushes and circled around behind Black Fox.
Jiang Nian'an calmly used vines to create a net around the mud creature, patiently waiting for it to reveal its true form.
'Bang—'
Countless stones fell from the sky over the somber area, causing the earth to tremble continuously.
'boom--'
Lightning flashed and thunder roared over Shen Nanxing's direction.
The mud creature seemed to be frightened by the earth-shattering commotion, and its struggles became more and more intense.
'Pat-pat-pat'
Large clumps of mud fell to the ground from the mud creature, and a tentacle as thick as a water bucket reached out from it.
'brush--'
After breaking free from the mud, the tentacles immediately lashed out at Jiang Nian'an and Xiao Longzhan.
"Don't hurt my sister!" Xiao Longzhan charged forward, brandishing a large iron hammer.
At the same time, the net that Jiang Nian'an had set up also moved, pulling the tentacles down from mid-air and pressing them firmly to the ground.
The next second, Xiao Longzhan flew down from mid-air, swinging a giant iron hammer, which slammed heavily onto the tentacle.
With a 'plop' sound, the tentacle deflated like a punctured balloon, spurting out several streams of thick, foul-smelling blood.
Jiang Nian'an quickly retreated and dodged with Xiao Longzhan. Just as they reached a safe position, a cry similar to that of an infant came from the ground.
'Wow--'
As the sound rang out, the severed tentacles retracted into the ground with a whoosh, leaving behind only a bottomless hole.
"They ran away?"
Xiao Longzhan stroked his chin, looking at the large hole not far away, muttering to himself as he quietly moved his feet.
They tried to sneak past Jiang Nian'an to the cave to find out what was going on.
"Hmm? Little Zhanzhan..."
Jiang Nian'an grabbed him by the back of the neck, her voice carrying a hint of warning.
"I won't do it again!"
Xiao Longzhan shrank his neck and stood obediently beside her, not daring to go any further into the cave.
Seeing that he had behaved himself, Jiang Nian'an pulled him towards the cave.
To be honest, she was also incredibly curious.
But after taking only two steps, another sharp cry came from below.
Immediately afterwards, the ground beneath my feet began to shake violently, as if an earthquake had struck.
But the unmoving mountains in the distance clearly told Jiang Nian'an that this was not an earthquake, but rather the work of the mud-like creatures underground.
"An'an!"
Shen Nanxing cleaved the black fox away with a single strike, and with a flash of lightning beneath his feet, he returned to Jiang Nian'an and the other person at top speed.
Black Fox did not give chase.
The increasingly violent tremors of the earth alarmed it, and it lay half-prone on the ground, its ears twitching as it listened intently to the sounds from underground.
The lynx was much more agile; without hesitation, it turned and, covered in blood, ran into the distant mountains.
Shen Su reached out and stopped the driver who was about to give chase, "Let's go to Nanxing and the others first."
The driver nodded, put the still-dripping dagger back into the scabbard at his waist, and silently followed Shen Su to Shen Nanxing and the other two.
"An'an, are you alright?"
Shen Nanxing didn't even glance at Shen Su, but asked Jiang Nian'an with an anxious look on his face.
"I'm fine, but..."
Jiang Nian'an hugged Shen Nanxing's arm, looking at the hole from which water was constantly gushing out, her expression complicated.
She was neither surprised nor taken aback by the seepage of groundwater.
She was simply wondering why the water had a salty, fishy smell...
'Gurgle gurgle'
Water was still overflowing from the cave entrance, and many mutated aquatic creatures were surging out, baring their teeth and claws at them.
"This is... a Sanmen blue crab?"
The driver shone his flashlight on a crab the size of a millstone, its body gleaming with a bluish-green metallic sheen, and asked somewhat uncertainly.
Shen Su had just erected a meter-high earthen wall in front of the group for defense when he heard the driver's words.
His gaze shifted to the crab that was tearing at the fish and shrimp around it, and after carefully examining it, he nodded.
"If nothing unexpected happens, it is..."
The crab in front of me looks almost exactly like the Sanmen blue crab from before the apocalypse, except that it is several times larger and has an extra inch-long spike on its back.
