Chapter 43 Borrowing Grain (1)

Neither of them tried to keep their voices down, so the conversation reached the fat man's ears.

Anger flashed in the fat man's eyes, and he was about to lash out when he remembered the purpose of his group.

He hesitated for a moment, and finally just gave an awkward smile.

But the slight trembling of his face indicated that he was clenching his back teeth.

“I must have hit the nail on the head,” Jiang Nian’an nudged Shen Nanxing lightly. “Look at him, his back teeth are practically grinding to powder.”

A haggard-looking woman approached with a boy of about six years old.

With a 'thump,' he knelt down before Jiang Nian'an.

"Please, for the sake of the child, lend us some food."

"Yes, you have so many, please have pity on us orphans and widows!"

Another mother and child came up.

In the end, the mother and daughter didn't say anything; they just knelt down miserably to one side.
