Ye Ling's eyes were sharp as branches flew out in front of her, but they turned into dust in no time.
Immediately afterwards, long swords formed from energy pierced towards Ye Ling, but stopped abruptly ten steps away from her.
Instead of backing down, Ye Ling stepped forward and asked, "Will you come out on your own initiative, or should I invite you out?"
Ye Yanling and Wen Yanchen arrived behind Ye Ling at the same time. Ye Yanling crackled with lightning in his hand and said, "You're not coming out, huh? Then I won't be polite."
A bolt of lightning struck, a sigh came from ahead, and then a man appeared in front of them.
He casually flicked his hand, knocking down a large tree beside him.
Everyone's expression froze.
The man was wearing a gray tracksuit, his long hair was tied up with a wooden hairpin, and he wore a simple silver mask.
He was tall and had a gentle aura; even if he stood right in front of you, you wouldn't feel his presence.
He was holding a tree branch with a golden-brown roasted chicken skewered on it, which looked like it was almost cooked.
He looked at them helplessly and said, "I'm just hungry, so I'm roasting a chicken. Is that any of your business?"
Ye Ling narrowed her eyes: "Who are you? Where are you from?"
This person's attire and aura both told her that this person was terrifyingly strong.
The man chuckled and said, "Just a nobody. Don't be nervous. I was just passing by when I saw you coming in such a menacing manner. I didn't want to cause trouble, so I chose to hide."
Who knew you guys were so sensitive, insisting on coming down to investigate?
Then he asked Ye Ling, "Um, I only have one roast chicken. If you want some, I can give you a chicken leg. But after you finish eating, just pretend you didn't see me, okay?"
Wen Yanchen, Ye Jinyan, and the others were on high alert. This man was clearly not simple. His calm and composed demeanor in the face of them was enough to show that his strength was no less than theirs.
Moody and Wen Mengxia stood on either side of Ye Ling. Moody whispered, "His aura is so strange. If we weren't face to face, I wouldn't even feel his presence."
Wen Mengxia whispered, "I feel the same way."
Ye Ling gave a soft "hmm," then suddenly laughed, "This roast chicken does smell really good, so I won't be polite."
She said to Wen Yanchen and the others, "Since they are just passing by, why don't we sit down and rest for a while?"
Ye Jinyan and the others understood what she meant: "Yes, we are indeed a bit tired. We should rest and have something to eat."
Upon hearing this, the man gathered some branches and pushed them up, then, right in front of them, took out a pink lighter.
Ye Ling and the others: "..."
lighter?
The man squatted down, holding the roasted chicken in one hand and a lighter in the other, trying to light it by striking the tree branch. He failed three times in a row and muttered to himself, "Strange, it lit up easily just now, why can't it do this time?"
Ye Ling and the others gathered around, and Ye Ling said speechlessly, "Because the branches are damp."
As he spoke, the tree branch suddenly burst into flames, nearly setting the man's hair ablaze.
The man leaned back slightly, placed the roast chicken on the rack, and calmly gave Ye Ling a thumbs up: "Impressive."
Wen Yanchen and the others were all silently observing him, but the man completely ignored their gazes and focused on roasting the chicken.
Wen Yanchen asked, "Brother, are you also a Taoist priest?"
The man looked up at him upon hearing this and scoffed, "No. What, are you a Taoist priest? You don't look like one."
Wen Yanchen chuckled: "I'm not a Taoist priest, but I have people around me who are Taoist priests. They all wear their hair up, just like you."
Man: "We all have long hair where we're from, but when I passed by here I noticed that many men had short hair, so to do as the locals do, I put it up in a bun."
Wen Yanchen raised an eyebrow: "I haven't seen any ethnic minority group in our country whose men have such long hair. Your Mandarin sounds pretty standard, are you one of us?"
The man looked at the roasting chicken over the fire: "I refuse to answer your question."
At this moment, Ye Ling took out a cleaned rooster from her spatial storage, skewered it with an iron skewer, placed it on the fire, and said, "Make room."
The man quickly moved aside a little for Ye Ling, his eyes widening at the large rooster in her hand: "This chicken looks to weigh over ten pounds. It smells so good, how about we switch?"
Ye Ling handed the chicken in her hand to Wen Yanchen, asking him to roast it, and then looked at the man: "Just this two ounces of chicken in your hand?"
The man became anxious: "How can this be only two ounces of chicken? It weighs three pounds! And I had a lot of trouble catching it."
Ye Ling scoffed, "Not interested."
Then they took out the camping folding tables and chairs, and Wen Mengxia and the others quickly got to work.
As the man stared wide-eyed, Ye Ling took out a professional barbecue grill and charcoal, followed by steaks, yellow croakers, chicken wings, lamb skewers, and various seasonings, which she then arranged on the side.
Ye Jinyan, Ye Yanling, Wen Mengxia, and others had already started barbecuing.
"Pfft~"
Ye Ling opened a bottle of beer and handed it to Wen Yanchen, then opened beer for Ye Jinyan and the other two, making the man swallow hard.
He pointed at the beer in Wen Yanchen's hand: "What's this?"
Wen Yanchen chuckled: "You don't recognize this?"
The man shook his head: "I don't know him."
Wen Yanchen smiled meaningfully: "It's simple to find out. Who are you? Where are you from? Take off your mask."
The man hesitated for a moment: "Never mind then, I don't want to know."
Wen Yanchen nodded: "Okay, let us know when you want to try it."
After saying that, he tilted his head back and drank it in big gulps until the bottle was empty, then he turned over the roast chicken in his hands with satisfaction.
The man pursed his lips, and the other person actually finished the drink in one go!
His eyes were uncontrollably drawn to the steaks, lamb skewers, and other meats on their grill, especially the toppings they were sprinkling—the aroma made him want to grab them.
The roasted chicken in his hand was plain and unseasoned, while Wen Yanchen was already using a brush to apply some oil to the chicken.
He couldn't help but look at Wen Yanchen and Ye Ling, hoping they would ask him questions. He promised to answer them in exchange for their help.
