Four teenagers ran out of an alley and shouted to stop them. One of the teenagers was the fastest and arrived at their side in the blink of an eye.
He pointed at the egg in Hanhan's hand with a serious expression: "Put it down quickly, this is a rattlesnake egg. Their parents are not far away. If you smash this egg, they will definitely not let you go."
"What? Rattlesnake eggs?"
Hanhan was so startled she almost dropped it, and she quickly put it down.
Song Jie frowned as well: "How come there are rattlesnake eggs here? And so many of them."
The boy, Tao He, said to them, "You all step back first."
After carefully retreating from the egg area to a relatively safe location, Tao He said, "You were all too reckless just now. It's best to be cautious when facing the unknown."
The other three boys approached, their backs to the group, looking around warily. One of them spoke up: "Stop talking nonsense, those mutated rattlesnakes are probably coming back soon, let's retreat."
One of the girls spoke up: "Captain, shall we still go over there to collect supplies?"
Song Jie shook her head slightly: "Let's leave with these classmates first."
Without hesitation, they quickly got into the car, turned around, and left. Just three minutes after they left, a rustling sound came from all around, and soon a dense swarm of mutated rattlesnakes appeared around the egg area.
These rattlesnakes were about three times larger than ordinary rattlesnakes, and each one exuded a cold aura.
Almost instantly, the spot where they had just been standing was taken over by these rattlesnakes.
Song Jie and her group drove for five kilometers before stopping under an abandoned overpass, where they all got out of the car again.
Song Jie looked at Tao He: "Classmate, how long have you been in the city? I haven't seen you at the base before."
Tao He stood with his classmates and said, "We don't live at the base; we live at the school, which is more than thirty stops away from here."
"School?"
One of the girls said to Song Jie, "Besides the base, there is another university in L City where people can live, and that is the University of Science and Technology."
Song Jie looked at Tao He: "You're from a university of science and technology?"
Tao He nodded: "Yes. I see that your levels are all around level two or three, and only your captain is level four. My personal suggestion is that you look for supplies on the outskirts, and not in the city center."
Yesterday, level six or seven or higher creatures suddenly appeared in the city center. You encountered them and didn't even have a chance to escape.
A gasp was heard.
"What? Level 7? Level 6?"
"Level seven? Level six? Does that mean not one? Or two? What kind of creatures are they?"
"Level seven! This is going to kill us!"
Tao He's expression was grave: "We don't know what kind of creatures they are either. We only detected their presence; they're lurking in the city center."
And there weren't just two; besides the level seven and six, there were two level five auras as well. The few of us came out today to find out what kind of creatures they were.
However, they unexpectedly discovered the eggs of those mutated rattlesnakes. Those rattlesnakes were extremely troublesome; their venom was already potent, but now, mutated, its toxicity was absurdly strong.
Another classmate, Su Yao, said, "A mutant rabbit that was half the height of a person died in less than a minute from a single spittle from a mutant rattlesnake."
Everyone gasped again.
Tao He looked at Song Jie: "Is this your first time in the city center since the extreme cold ended?"
Song Jie nodded: "Yes, we received a mission to come here to collect supplies and also to scout out the situation."
Su Yao suddenly scoffed: "Looking for supplies? Do you think you have any supplies left after these two months of extreme cold?"
Or do you think the people at our school are just for show, while the soldiers and survivors are just sitting around waiting to die? Let me tell you, even a single piece of paper has been taken from you. What supplies are left for you?
His words were rather harsh, which made a group of girls look uncomfortable.
Tao He nudged him: "Don't be so impulsive. Let's stick to the facts."
