A week later...
Mo Xiaole bought some fruit, thinking of visiting the grandfather and grandson because of what happened last weekend.
But when they arrived at the original stall location, they couldn't find anyone.
They then went around the entire flea market again, but still found nothing.
Having no other choice, I returned to the original place and tried asking the people around me if they knew anything about the situation.
I found out that the grandfather and grandson had arrived early this morning.
However, he was chased away by the street manager, who also threatened that he could never set up a stall there again, saying that he had offended someone he shouldn't have.
Mo Xiaole took a deep breath, trying to control her expression, and then asked the grandfather and grandson where their home was.
Someone nearby gave us the address and added at the end: "This family is suffering so much!"
Le Wu followed behind Mo Xiao Le, watching the little girl try her best to suppress her emotions, with anger and guilt lingering between her brows.
Every step she took felt incredibly heavy, the joy she had shown upon arrival gone.
Finally, after turning several corners, we saw a low house. The most obvious feature was the dilapidated door with a hole patched up with a tire.
In contrast, a bright yellow amulet, sealed in plastic and very clean, hung above the main gate.
A knock was made on the door, and a clear voice rang out, "Who is it?"
The little girl opened the door and poked her head out, looking around curiously. Then her eyebrows relaxed and she asked, "Sister, what brings you here?"
"I just happened to be passing by and thought I'd drop by. Where's Grandpa?"
Faced with the little girl's smiling face, Mo Xiaole really couldn't bring herself to talk about what had just happened at the flea market.
"Grandpa is weaving baskets, sister, come in and sit down," the little girl's enthusiasm eased Mo Xiaole's mind, and she followed her inside.
There were many bamboo strips and tools in the yard, and although there were many things, it was very clean.
Upon entering the house, Grandpa continued weaving baskets. He was delighted to see Mo Xiaole and said, "Girl, come sit down, come sit down."
The little girl had already come to her grandmother's side and was quietly introducing Mo Xiaole.
Mo Xiaole was a little reserved. When she saw the fruit in her hand, she immediately said, "Grandpa, Grandma, this is some fruit I bought. I originally wanted to visit you, but I didn't expect that what happened last time would cause you trouble. I'm really sorry because I made it impossible for you to continue running your stall."
Mo Xiaole's mind went blank, and her words became somewhat incoherent.
Grandma laughed and said, "What's the big deal? We've been through much harder things. For our family, this is nothing. At worst, we'll just move our stall to another place. Don't worry about it."
Grandpa comforted me, saying, "What I miss about that place is my old customers, but the old guy next to my stall told me that he'll let us know if anyone wants anything from us in the future. So, don't worry about it."
Mo Xiaole's guilt was greatly relieved by her grandparents' words of comfort.
What Mo Xiaole didn't expect was that after she left that day, A Yue's father developed a low-grade fever that evening.
After being taken to the hospital, the family struggled to pay for the hospitalization. In desperation, the grandmother found someone outside the hospital to sell her wedding gold ring and raised money to pay the fees.
That gold ring was a token of love between her and her grandfather, and it accompanied her through the ups and downs of her family. Even though life has been so difficult these past few years, Grandma has never thought of selling it.
But misfortunes never come singly, and sometimes you have no choice but to bow to reality.
Just after A-Yue's father brought her home, her grandmother had another problem.
Because her family was short of money and her medication was almost finished, she secretly reduced her dosage.
Because of unbearable pain, Grandma couldn't sleep well at night. Her body, which had been weakened by cancer for so many years, simply couldn't take it anymore, leading to multiple organ failure.
Grandma passed away not long after she was admitted to the hospital, and Grandpa lost all his energy and spirit.
If it weren't for his son and granddaughter to take care of, he would have gone with his wife.
But he couldn't do that, leaving his granddaughter to shoulder the burden of caring for his son alone.
Mo Xiaole was unaware of the series of events that followed. When she returned home that day, she was still thinking about how to help A Yue and the others sell baskets.
I have a rough idea in mind, and I'm looking forward to telling them the good news next week.
Unfortunately, what awaited them was endless sorrow and guilt.
Le Wu followed behind Mo Xiao Le, sharing her emotions, but what followed was even more unbearable, tearing at Le Wu's heart...
