Chapter 102 Protecting Her for the Rest of My Life

Chapter 102 Protecting Her for the Rest of My Life

"Those people," her voice was soft, with an air of confirmation rather than accusation, "did you handle them?"

Xie Jue raised his head, his once clear eyes now filled with too much darkness, and calmly met Qiao Xi's gaze.

Without the slightest hesitation or explanation, he uttered only a single, clear word: "Hmm."

He stood up, deftly sheathing the dagger back into its leather sheath at his waist, a movement both fluid and powerful.

“I didn’t act rashly; I’ve been waiting for this day for months.”

The boy's voice was calm, as if stating a fact, yet it contained unfathomable hatred and the joy of finally being released.

The despair of being able to watch helplessly as loved ones were humiliated has transformed into the power to sever the throat of one's enemy with one's own hands.

Josie looked at the lingering hostility in his eyes and sighed inwardly.

She didn't blame him; she simply reached out and patted his shoulder firmly, conveying a silent understanding and approval.

“That’s a clean slate. From today onwards, the past is wiped clean, Xiao Jue. Your sister also hopes that you can live a good life.”

Xie Jue lowered his head: Yes! His sister's revenge has been taken, but he must continue to grow stronger.

Strong enough to protect the benefactor who had helped him and his sister in the quagmire of the apocalypse.

He will remember this kindness and repay it with his life.

Josie, unaware of his thoughts, directly stated the purpose of their trip: "We're leaving the city again. Do you want to come with us?"

Xie Jue replied almost without hesitation, "Yes, I'll go with you."

Xie Jue didn't have much to pack. He only took two minutes to shoulder his bag and follow Lu Yuyang and Qiao Xi out of the tent area.

"What do you think about us heading east this time?"

Qiao Xi had no objection. She turned to Xie Jue, who was silent, and asked, "Xiao Jue, what do you think?"

"I'll listen to my sister."

Just as they finished speaking, on the main road leading to the gate of the safe zone, a sound completely different from the usual noise of the safe zone came from afar.

The heavy, orderly footsteps sounded like a well-trained army marching.

Qiao Xi and Lu Yuyang stopped at the same time and looked warily toward the source of the sound.

Outside the door, a group of people filed in.

There were about twenty of them, wearing combat uniforms that had never been seen in the safe zone before.

It was a deep, dark blue color, and the material looked extremely special. In the morning light, it gleamed with a cold, hard metallic luster. The joints were covered with matte armor, and a ferocious, dark red dragon head emblem was uniformly branded on the left chest.

Their makeshift combat uniforms, cobbled together in the safe zone, looked inferior and haphazard compared to those of their opponents.

Their steps were steady and uniform, their eyes sharp as eagles, and their brows carried an arrogance and fierce aura that came from having survived countless battles and been through mountains of corpses and seas of blood.

As I walked, an invisible, cold, and oppressive feeling spread out.

Pedestrians retreated in fear, shoving and jostling to the sides of the road, plunging the once noisy street into a suffocating silence.

Lu Yuyang's face instantly darkened, his brows furrowed, and he instinctively stepped in front of Qiao Xi and Xie Jue.

The aura emanating from this group is too dangerous; they are definitely not an ordinary exile group.

His sharp gaze swept over the group, his voice low and unusually grave: "Something's not right with these people."

Josie could also sense that these people were far more powerful than the existing teams in the safe zone.

Especially the tall man in the lead, with a buzz cut and a shallow scar on his face, his casual glances were like tangible blades, scrutinizing and carrying an air of superior indifference that sent chills down one's spine.

Josie tensed up, her hand quietly resting on the dagger at her waist.

Xie Jue narrowed his eyes slightly, like a wary young wolf, silently observing each member of the team.

"XiXi, the plan has changed. These people have ill intentions, and something might happen to the safe zone. I need to find out their purpose and background first."

He looked at Josie quickly and decisively, "I can't go out of town with you today, I have to go back."

Josie understood his concerns.

"Okay, you go ahead and get busy. Xiao Jue and I will just wander around the neighborhood and practice our skills."

The evolved zombies in the nearby cities have been almost completely hunted down, making this the perfect time for her and Xie Jue to practice.

Lu Yuyang nodded, and before leaving, he solemnly reminded her: "Be careful while I'm not by your side, and hide if you encounter any danger."

"Okay, don't worry about me, I know."

After watching Lu Yuyang leave with the group of superhumans, Qiao Xi and Xie Jue turned around and continued towards the gate of the safe zone.

************

Lu Yuyang trailed behind the superhumans at a distance, while calling out to a passerby and quietly asking him to inform the base management.

The dark blue team had a clear goal and kept moving forward without stopping, and no one dared to stop them along the way.

They arrived at the heart of the safe zone—the temporary administrative office area in Anquanli—without any obstacles.

The security guards at the entrance gripped their guns tightly as they looked at the menacing, well-equipped uninvited guests.

The scarred man at the head of the group stepped into the tightly closed glass door, his eyes sweeping over the tense guards on both sides like icicles.

He didn't even ask a question; he just raised his chin, and a burly man as big as an iron tower behind him suddenly kicked him.

A loud bang!

The heavy tempered glass door was kicked so hard that it dented inward and shattered! Spiderweb-like cracks spread instantly, and shards of glass clattered to the ground.

This violent act was like throwing a boulder into a calm lake; the office lobby was instantly filled with gasps and the sound of tables and chairs being knocked over.

"Bring out the person in charge of your safe zone!"

The scarred man's voice wasn't loud, but it carried a chilling pressure that pierced through the chaos, clearly resounding throughout the entire hall.

A captain in a security zone guard uniform, barely suppressing his anger, stepped forward to try and negotiate: "Who are you? What do you want with our leader? This is the security zone's administrative center, please..."

His words came to an abrupt end.

The other superhuman behind the scarred man, with a sinister look in his eyes, merely glanced at him casually, and he felt as if he had been struck in the head by something.

By the time he realized what was happening, his legs gave way and he was already kneeling on the ground.

"How can I..." He tried to stand up, but his body wouldn't obey him.

I instantly felt a chill run from the soles of my feet straight to the top of my head. The rest of my sentence got stuck in my throat, and cold sweat broke out on my forehead.

The scarred man looked at him, his eyes devoid of any emotion, only displaying an indifference that belies his status as an ant and a chilling warning.

“My patience is limited. If you don’t want us to hurt anyone,” the scarred man’s voice carried a cruel mockery, “go and notify your supervisor immediately.”
