Chapter 114 Keep Her Company

Chapter 114 Keep Her Company

Xie Jue's expression changed in an instant, and he shook his head blankly, "I don't know him, I only know Xie Jue."

After saying that, he deliberately hesitated for a moment before saying, "I can help you find him, but you have to give me food."

In the apocalypse, they had seen too many people like this, so they had no doubts whatsoever.

Xu Linchuan nodded, "Okay, as long as you bring the person to me, I'll give you a box of cookies."

Xie Jue's face lit up with ecstasy. "One box?"

“Yes,” Zhou Ye nodded, “so hurry up and find Xie Jue. We’ll give it to you once we find him.”

"Okay, I'll go right away." Xie Jue seemed extremely happy and turned to leave quickly.

But as he walked, the smile on his face gradually disappeared.

These people look respectable and seem to be all superhumans. I wonder if they have a grudge against my sister.

In any case, he had to find his sister first and tell her about it.

Without any delay, he went straight to Yuxin Garden.

thump thump thump...

He knocked on the door repeatedly, but no sound came from inside.

He had no choice but to squat by the door and wait.

Time passed slowly, from the blazing sun to dusk, and then to a sky full of stars, but the small building remained dark and silent.

Hunger and exhaustion meant nothing to Xie Jue. He stood like a silent statue, leaning against the cold, rough courtyard wall, hidden in the heavy shadows cast by the porch.

Until the evening of the next day, the afterglow of the setting sun bathed the small building in a dark gold.

Lu Yuyang walked upstairs and stopped when he saw Xie Jue in the hallway.

"Looking for Josh?"

Xie Jue stood up and looked up at the man standing with his back to the light.

His eyes were dark and his lips were chapped. "Um, sister... wasn't with you?"

Lu Yuyang looked at Xie Jue, "You won't find her... she's not here."

"Do you know where she is?" Xie Jue subconsciously touched the leather sheath of the dagger, which reassured him.

Lu Yuyang's eyes were dark, yet they revealed a tenacious spirit.

"She's in Fu Jinxing's lab."

"Fu Jinxing's laboratory?" Xie Jue's pupils contracted sharply.

That place... that place where all sorts of forbidden research is conducted, that place that is strictly sealed off, how could my sister be there?

Were they also used as test subjects?

He turned and ran downstairs almost without hesitation.

"Thank you!"

Lu Yuyang called out to him, "If you can get into the lab and see her..."

He pursed his lips. "Tell her to wait for me. I will definitely bring her out!"

Xie Jue suddenly stopped and turned to look at Lu Yuyang.

That slightly haggard face was filled with unwavering determination and stubbornness.

Xie Jue did not respond, withdrew his gaze, turned around and continued downstairs, quickly heading towards Fu Jinxing's laboratory.

This was his second time here. He went straight to the gate and told the guards his request, "I want to become a test subject."

"Experimental subject?" The guard captain sized him up. "Wait a minute."

The message was quickly relayed.

Not long after, a young assistant wearing a white lab coat, black-rimmed glasses, and a stern expression came out. He looked Xie Jue up and down, his eyes assessing him like an object: "Did you volunteer to become a test subject?"

Xie Jue nodded, "Mm."

"Then come with me." Without any further words, he was led into that cold fortress.

Xie Jue wasn't here for the first time, but last time he wasn't allowed to stay because of Fu Jinxing.

This time, he was taken into a small observation room with special glass walls and only a simple metal bed inside.

The door locked silently behind him, the cold metallic touch isolating him from the outside world.

He always saw Fu Jinxing when he wanted to do experiments, so he wasn't in a hurry and just sat quietly in the corner waiting.

About an hour later, someone brought him food. "After you finish eating, wash up and then come with us for a physical examination."

Xie Jue remained silent, grabbing the food and swallowing it in large gulps.

After he finished tidying up, the lab assistant reappeared, looked him up and down, and said, "Alright, come with me."

After the assistant led Xie Jue through a series of examinations, the door to the observation room slid open silently.

Fu Jinxing stood at the door, still wearing his spotless white coat, his posture upright and handsome. When he saw Xie Jue's figure, a hint of surprise appeared on his face. "It's you again!"

Just as Xie Jue was about to speak, his assistant stepped forward and handed him Xie Jue's medical report.

"Professor, this subject's body cells are very active. If we use him for the next crucial experiment, the chances of success will increase by 30%."

Fu Jinxing frowned and nodded, "I understand, you can go and make preparations."

After his assistant left, Fu Jinxing approached Xie Jue step by step.

Aren't you afraid of dying?

"I'm afraid! But I'm even more afraid of living a wretched life under someone's feet." Xie Jue changed the subject, "But I came here this time to see my sister. I have something to ask her."

Fu Jinxing's gaze swept over him. "You just heard what my assistant said. Your body cells are very active, making you a suitable test subject for our next round of experiments. Now... are you still willing?"

In a short time, Fu Jinxing made a decision: the chances of success of this experiment would be much higher if Xie Jue was used.

It can also increase the chances of survival for other experimental subjects.

So... he changed his mind, but the decision rested with Xie Jue.

Xie Jue hesitated for only a moment, "Okay, but I need to see my sister first."

Fu Jinxing looked at Xie Jue, who had grown into a young man with handsome features, but exuded a cold and fierce aura.

His eyes flickered. "Then you wait."

After saying that, he turned and left the observation room, the heavy door obscuring his view.

Fu Jinxing went back to his room first, changed out of his white coat and into casual clothes, and then headed towards where Qiao Xi lived.

Josie was living quite well here; at lunchtime, she had two dishes and a soup in front of her.

This dish would be considered a luxury anywhere in the world.

But she just mechanically poked at it with her chopsticks, barely moving it.

Fu Jinxing pushed open the door and came in, sitting opposite her. With elegant movements, he picked up a large piece of scrambled eggs with his chopsticks and placed it in Qiao Xi's bowl.

"What? Not to your liking?"

Josie shook her head. "It's fine, but I'm not very hungry."

"Then Brother Jinxing will eat with you."

After saying that, he filled his own bowl with rice, gave the large pieces of egg to Josie, and ate the broken pieces of egg himself.

Under his gaze, Josie could only finish all the food in her bowl, bite by bite.

"Would you like to watch a movie after dinner? I have some films to watch here."

Josie looked up at him. "Aren't you busy? You still have time to watch a movie?"

"I've been busy for so many years, and I just wanted to take a break recently." He smiled slightly at her.
