Chapter 125 Responding to Him
Lu Yuyang's mother stood at the corner of the stairs, her makeup exquisite and her clothes appropriate, but deep in her eyes, she could not hide her fatigue and a trace of anxiety that was hard to detect.
She looked at Josh, then glanced at Xie Jue behind Josh with a hint of wariness in her eyes.
Qiao Xiting turned to face Lu's mother, her clear eyes showing no fear, only calm detachment.
She whispered to Xie Jue, "Xiao Jue, wait for me downstairs for a while."
Xie Jue frowned, his gaze sweeping over Lu's mother with a scrutinizing look, carrying a warning connotation. Then, he reluctantly nodded and slowly walked down the stairs, but didn't go far, standing at the top of the stairs to ensure he could rush up immediately.
As Lu's mother watched Xie Jue's departing figure, she breathed a slight sigh of relief.
“Auntie,” Josie’s voice was cold and direct, “I’m willing to stop and talk to you because of Lu Yuyang. But only this once. If you choose to warn or threaten me next…” She paused, her eyes suddenly sharpening, “then don’t blame me for being rude.”
Lu's mother did not blame her for her attitude; a bitter and helpless smile appeared on her well-maintained face.
“I know you’re a good kid,” she said wearily. “It’s true that Yu Yang’s dad and I were wrong about this.” Her tone was heavy, filled with sincere apology. “If this weren’t the apocalypse where we were on the verge of collapse, if the Lu family were still the stable Lu family, I might have tried my best to persuade his dad to let the children pursue their own happiness.”
She changed the subject, her eyes filled with worry and helplessness: "But this is the apocalypse, Miss Qiao. In our entire Lu family, there are very few real superhumans. We rely on Yu Yang and his father's past prestige and connections to barely keep us afloat. As you can see, superhumans are getting stronger and stronger, and the rules of the safe zone are changing every day."
Josie stood quietly without offering any opinion.
"Without strong power, our entire family is like a castle built on quicksand, which will collapse at any time. When survival is a problem, and we live in fear and uncertainty, even the deepest love will eventually be worn away by this cruel world, turning into resentment and pain."
Lu's mother's voice carried the vicissitudes and sorrow of someone who had been through it all. "I've seen and experienced too much. I have no doubt about your feelings for each other, but if you insist on getting together regardless of the consequences, and the Lu family collapses in the future, Yu Yang, as the heir of the Lu family, will be overwhelmed by his pain and self-blame. There will always be an unhealable wound between you caused by us. Love will eventually be worn down by reality into hatred."
Lu's mother's words were like cold needles, piercing through reality and clearly and cruelly depicting the future she had long foreseen but was unwilling to think about deeply.
She was silent for a moment, and when she looked up again, her eyes were clear and calm, even with a hint of relief: "Auntie, you are right. The future of the family, the infighting of the apocalypse, these are indeed insurmountable chasms between him and me. So, you don't need to worry."
She raised her head slightly, "I will leave here, leave the safe zone, leave... Lu Yuyang."
A deep sense of guilt instantly welled up on Lu's mother's face, and her voice choked with emotion: "I'm sorry, Miss Qiao, we really...we're sorry to you."
The apology sounded exceptionally sincere at that moment, yet it also felt incredibly weak.
Just then, footsteps came from downstairs.
Lu Yuyang's tall figure appeared at the top of the stairs, his face showing the exhaustion of completing the task, but the moment he saw Qiao Xi, he burst into huge joy, his eyes seeming to light up with stars.
"Xixi!"
He practically ran up, but when he saw his mother, he stopped abruptly, his brows furrowing instantly.
"Mom? What are you doing here?"
He instinctively sensed something was wrong, and his gaze quickly swept between his mother and Josie.
Without hesitation, he reached out and grabbed Josie's slightly cool hand, forcefully pulling her behind him and using half of his body to shield her, forming a protective stance.
Seeing her son's instinctive action to protect Qiao Xi, Lu's mother felt a pang of sadness mixed with guilt and heartache.
"Mom just... came to see you because you hadn't been home for a long time,"
She avoided her son's probing gaze and spoke quickly, "I happened to run into Miss Qiao and chatted with her for a few minutes."
She forced a smile. "You young people chat, Mom's going home now. Remember to come home for dinner when you have time."
After saying that, she turned and left.
Lu Yuyang's doubts deepened, but his attention was entirely focused on Qiao Xi at the moment.
He turned around abruptly, his long-suppressed emotions bursting forth like a flood, impossible to contain.
He suddenly pulled Josie into a tight embrace, so forcefully that it seemed he wanted to meld her into his very bones.
His arms wrapped around her slender waist like iron hoops, his chin resting on the top of her soft hair, greedily inhaling her familiar scent. "Xixi! Did he hurt you?"
Josie was choking him so much she could hardly breathe, but her heart was softened and ached by his burning emotions and undisguised longing.
Just then, a passerby carrying supplies walked by and curiously peered at them.
Josie swallowed her words and nudged his tense arm: "Let's go inside and talk."
"good!"
Lu Yuyang immediately agreed, still holding her waist tightly with one hand, and quickly took out his keys with the other to open the door, almost carrying Qiao Xi into the slightly messy apartment.
The door was slammed shut behind him with a loud thud, completely cutting him off from the outside world.
“Yu Yang, I…” Qiao Xi was about to speak, to reveal the decision she had been preparing for.
However, before she could finish speaking, Lu Yuyang suddenly lowered his head and, with a breath as fierce as a storm, fiercely captured her lips!
The kiss came fiercely and urgently, carrying with it a long-suppressed longing and unease...
His tongue forcefully pried open her teeth, conquering and engulfing her, sucking and entwining, as if trying to devour all her breath and thoughts, leaving her only to feel his presence.
The scorching heat made Josie's heart tremble, and a wave of weakness and soreness surged through her limbs.
She had intended to push his hand away, but when her hand touched his arm, her heart softened, and she couldn't muster the strength to push him away.
Instead, she raised her hand and wrapped it around his neck.
She closed her eyes, suppressing her emotions, and decided to indulge in one last act of debauchery, beginning to respond to him with a passionate and sensual response.
The air was instantly ignited.
The clothes became an inconvenient obstacle and were hastily stripped off, scattered all over the ground.
Lu Yuyang picked her up and carried her to the bedroom, gently placing her on the bed.
His hot, slightly sweaty body pressed down on her, his heavy breath spraying onto her sensitive skin, sending a shiver down her spine.
