Chapter 136 The Smell of Gunpowder

Chapter 136 The Smell of Gunpowder

"What about you? Are you leaving now?"

“I’m not leaving,” he said, looking at Josie. “From now on, I’ll stay by your side. Wherever you go, I’ll go.”

This decision was not made on a whim.

During his long journey to find her, he had already figured things out very well.

She was like a gust of wind, never staying for anyone.

If she is not willing to stay for him, then he shall follow in her footsteps.

In this cruel wasteland, apart from the woman before him, Chen Han had long since lost all interest in or attachment to anything else.

Josie was slightly taken aback, meeting Shen Han's earnest eyes.

This sudden and weighty promise was something she felt she couldn't bear.

She lowered her eyes, avoiding his overly intense gaze. "Chen Han, I can't give you what you want."

"You know what I want?" He chuckled. "All I want is to stay by your side."

Josie's mind was a bit muddled, and coupled with exhaustion and drowsiness, she opened her mouth and yawned.

Shen Han looked at her with tender eyes, "Go to sleep if you're tired. We'll talk after you wake up."

Josie hummed in agreement, pushed open her bedroom door, and saw him still standing there, dumbfounded.

Her heart softened, and she asked, "Aren't you tired from searching all this way?"

"Not tired."

"I was thinking of resting together if you were tired..."

"I'm tired, so tired."

After saying that, he braced his arm against the door and followed me in.

They had already slept together several times, so Josie didn't make a fuss.

He simply lifted the blanket and crawled inside.

A moment later, the blanket was pulled back again, and the man's hot body pressed against her.

With a long arm, she gently pulled her into her embrace, letting her lean against her firm chest.

His chin rested on the top of her head, and he smelled the faint scent of sweat and gunpowder in her hair, which made him feel incredibly at ease.

"Go to sleep."

Josie nestled comfortably in his arms, overwhelmed by exhaustion.

Listening to the even breathing of the woman in his arms, Chen Han smiled contentedly, gazing greedily at her sleeping face...

As dawn broke, the pale blue morning light shone through the dusty windowpanes, barely dispelling the gloom inside.

With his usual gentle smile, Fu Jinxing gently pushed open the door to Qiao Xi's temporary residence, preparing to wake her up.

However, their steps came to an abrupt halt at the threshold.

The smile on his face was like a lake frozen in an instant, then shattered inch by inch.

On that simple bed, Josie was being held tightly in the arms of a strange man.

She turned her face to the side, her breathing even and deep, deep in sleep, one hand unconsciously wrapped around the man's waist, her posture one of complete dependence and relaxation.

The morning light outlined her peaceful sleeping face and the man's broad shoulders, creating an intimately striking scene.

A chilling, bone-deep coldness instantly emanated from Fu Jinxing.

He stood silently by the bed, his figure like an iceberg that had suddenly descended, radiating a suffocatingly low pressure.

Almost at the same moment Fu Jinxing stopped, Shen Han, who was fast asleep, suddenly opened his eyes.

His keen intuition, typical of top-tier superhumans, instantly jolted him awake from his deep sleep.

His sharp gaze immediately locked onto the uninvited guest by the bedside: a man with gold-rimmed glasses, a refined demeanor, but icy eyes.

Suddenly, the other person was holding a sharp scalpel that gleamed with a cold light, its tip firmly and threateningly pressed against his carotid artery!

The movement was so fast that it was almost silent.

Shen Han did not make any rash moves. He calmly met Fu Jinxing's unfathomable gaze, lowered his voice, and said with an undeniable firmness, "I think we might be able to go outside and talk."

He didn't want to wake Josie, who was sleeping soundly in his arms.

Fu Jinxing's eyes flickered behind his glasses.

If he could, he would want to immediately slit the man's throat with that scalpel!

Watching his warm blood spurt out!

Xixi's hands were wrapped so naturally around the man's waist as she slept so soundly.

The image was like a poisoned needle, piercing his eyes.

He used all the self-control he had ever had to barely suppress the murderous intent that was about to overwhelm his reason.

He took a deep breath to calm himself down.

Finally, a cold, almost laced word, as if squeezed out from between clenched teeth, rang out: "Okay."

He gazed intently at Josie's unguarded sleeping face, his eyes swirling with complex emotions.

Without hesitation, he turned around and strode out of the room.

In the cold air at the doorway, Fu Jinxing stood with his back to the door, like a cold sculpture.

He didn't have to wait long before he heard footsteps behind him.

Shen Han came out, gently closed the door behind him, and shut out the view inside the room.

Fu Jinxing slowly turned around, the lenses of his gold-rimmed glasses reflecting a cold light in the morning light.

"Who are you?" His voice was eerily calm.

He paused for a moment, then gave a direct choice, his tone like that of someone shooing away a wild beast that had wandered into their territory: "Will you leave on your own, or do I need to 'invite' you out?"

Shen Han stood still, his posture as upright as a pine tree, and looked back at Fu Jinxing without fear.

He keenly sensed the intense hostility and dangerous aura emanating from the leader of this stronghold.

But how could anyone else influence his resolute decision?

“I have no intention of leaving.” His tone was calm, yet resolute.

"That's probably not up to you." Fu Jinxing pushed up his glasses, a cold glint flashing behind the lenses, and a chilling killing intent spread out as if it were a tangible thing.

Their gazes met in mid-air, and for a moment it was as if countless invisible blades were clashing fiercely, the air itself seemed to freeze, filled with a suffocating sense of oppression.

Shen Han frowned, but ultimately thought that Qiao Xi and the others were friends, and it was not advisable to make things too tense.

He tried to demonstrate his value: "I am a third-tier special ability user. My joining you will provide greater security..."

However, before he could finish speaking, Fu Jinxing interrupted him, leaving no room for negotiation: "No need. We don't keep people of unknown origin here. Please leave immediately."

Shen Han's eyes narrowed instantly, sharp as an eagle's.

Having spent most of the last six months adventuring in the post-apocalyptic world, he encountered countless leaders of various factions who fawned over him and begged him to join them, but he was never tempted.

This was the first time he had offered to join a team, and he was met with such a decisive rejection.

He could clearly sense the hostility the other person was showing towards him.

Inside the room, Josie didn't sleep for long.

She slowly woke up shortly after Shen Han got up and left.

I sat up blankly, the seat next to me was empty, only the lingering warmth of your body and the unfamiliar scent remained.

For a fleeting moment, she vaguely thought that Chen Han's appearance last night was just a hallucination caused by her extreme exhaustion.

But soon, the faint, tense voices of conversation coming from outside the door broke her daze.

She quickly put on her coat, pushed open the door, and went out.
