Chapter 150 Entwined in Desperate Passion

Chapter 150 Entwined in Desperate Passion

Hearing Qin Feng and the others running past in a fit of rage, cursing that they had lost their target.

Only after the footsteps outside completely disappeared did Josie regain her human form. Ignoring her exhaustion, she immediately and silently retraced her steps back to the dilapidated building where the light-elemental ability user was hiding.

Josie held her breath and carefully moved the broken wooden plank that was blocking her view, but there was no one there.

The heavy stench of blood had not completely dissipated, mixed with the smell of dust and decay, but the critically injured and dying man, Mu Yanzhou, had already vanished.

Her heart tightened, and she quickly stepped forward to examine it closely.

There were no drag marks, no fresh bloodstains, only a few pools of dark red blood on the ground that belonged to him, not yet completely dried, and two words scrawled crookedly in congealed blood on the dusty cement floor:

"Thanks."

The handwriting was messy yet forceful, revealing a weak yet resolute effort to hold on.

Beside the writing lay a quiet, inconspicuous, bulging little bag.

Josie bent down and picked up the bag. It felt heavy in her hand. Inside were more than twenty crystal cores, mostly blue crystals, but there were also three or four yellow crystals and one amethyst.

These crystal cores alone are enough to upgrade a first-level ability user to the third level.

She understood Mu Yanzhou's choice.

Having just experienced a fatal betrayal by a friend, with the wounds still raw and bleeding, being wary of any stranger, or even leaving without saying goodbye, is an instinct for survival in the apocalypse.

This is good, it saves a lot of explanation and potential trouble, and I even got a small bag of crystal cores for free.

She carefully put away the crystal core bag, took one last look at the blood-written "Thank you," and quickly turned and left the dilapidated building that reeked of blood.

The night was as dark as ink, and the ruins resembled a lurking beast.

Qiao Xi quickly ran towards the alley where she had parted ways with Shen Han.

When she arrived, a familiar figure had been waiting for her for a long time.

Shen Han leaned against a half-collapsed wall, hidden in the shadows, like a silent sculpture.

Only when Josie's figure appeared at the alley entrance did his tense body relax almost imperceptibly. He stepped out of the shadows and walked to her in a few steps.

"Why have you been gone for so long?" Shen Han's voice was low, with a hint of tension that was barely perceptible.

He raised his hand, his warm palm resting on Josie's shoulder, his sharp gaze quickly sweeping over her body to make sure she was unharmed. "What happened?"

Josie could feel the warmth of his palm and the hidden worry in it. Her heart warmed, and she quickly explained, "It wasn't peaceful here just now. A group of people were killing a very powerful zombie. The commotion was too great, so I hid to avoid getting caught in the crossfire."

She omitted what happened after Mu Yanzhou appeared, only emphasizing the danger: "We have to leave quickly, I'm worried that those people or the zombies' kind will come looking for us."

“Hmm.” Shen Han didn’t press for details; he instinctively trusted Qiao Xi’s judgment.

He gripped her hand tightly, his palm conveying strength. "Let's go!"

Without further delay, the two quickly merged into the deeper darkness and stealthily made their way towards the stronghold.

However, on this return journey, Shen Han did not seem to be in a hurry to get going.

He deliberately walked in circles, venturing into the more desolate and complex ruins.

What Josie found even more difficult was that whenever night fell and they found a relatively safe place to stay, Chen Han's "needs" became unusually strong.

It was as if he wanted to pour all the longing and some hidden unease that had accumulated during their separation onto her.

He always had a way of arousing her, leading to passionate lovemaking that often lasted until the wee hours of the morning, leaving her exhausted and weak all over.

The morning sunlight streamed in through the cracks in the ruins, and Josie was often still fast asleep, only to be gently awakened by Chen Han's kiss when the sun was high in the sky.

By the time she finished packing, it was often already afternoon, and she could only travel for half a day.

"At this rate, when will we be able to get back to the base?" Josie couldn't help but mutter after another intimate moment.

Shen Han embraced her from behind, resting his chin on her neck, his warm breath spraying onto her sensitive skin with a hint of languor and satisfaction.

His hands roamed restlessly over her waist, his voice low and husky, with a seductive magnetism: "It won't be convenient if there are too many people around when we go back."

During his time at the base, someone was always watching him. Whenever he spent a little time alone with Xixi, someone would interrupt him.

He paused, tightened his arms around her, pulling her closer into his embrace, his voice carrying a barely perceptible hint of possessiveness, "Xixi, let's stay a few more days and go back, okay?"

Josie sensed the unspoken meaning in his words and her heart stirred slightly, but she quickly regained her composure.

She turned around, her hand pressing against his chest, which had become hot again. Her beautiful eyes shone brightly in the dim light. "Chen Han, control yourself. We've really wasted too much time. We must get back to the base in three days at most!"

Her tone was serious, leaving no room for negotiation.

Looking at the determination in her eyes, Shen Han knew that if he continued to pester her, she would really get angry.

He lowered his head, with a hint of reluctance and doting affection, and kissed her lips deeply. In the end, he simply held her tighter, letting her rest her head in his arms. The two lay with their necks intertwined, and in each other's body heat and heartbeats, they simply fell asleep in each other's arms, a rare occurrence.

The rare "restraint" brought about efficiency.

The next day, the two of them got up early, packed quickly, and set off in high spirits.

The morning light in the ruins carried a hint of chill, and the air was much fresher than during the day.

However, this tranquility did not last long.

As they crossed an open area that had once been a park but was now filled with dead trees and broken sculptures, they suddenly heard loud arguing and fighting, mixed with a woman's screams.

The two exchanged a glance, quickly concealed themselves, and approached under the cover of the broken walls and ruins.

Seven or eight men dressed in haphazard leather armor, with fierce eyes, were surrounding a man and a woman.

The couple looked to be in their twenties. The man was wearing a faded work jacket and had a muscular build. He was protecting the pale-faced girl behind him, and both of them had expressions of shock, anger, and fear on their faces.

"Stop pretending! Who else could it be but you two, a man and a woman wearing masks and selling superpower drugs so lavishly on the black market?"

The leader, a burly man, held a machete in his hand, grinning maliciously as he demanded, "If you know what's good for you, obediently take us back to your base and hand over the formula and the scientist behind it!"

The girl being protected trembled with fear: "What...what are you going to do? We don't know anything about any kind of potion!"

"have no idea?"

The burly man's eyes flashed with anger, and he suddenly kicked the man's arm as he tried to block.

The man groaned and staggered backward, his arm visibly bent unnaturally!

"Ayan!" the girl cried out, tears welling up instantly.

The burly man seemed somewhat surprised and launched another supernatural attack on them.

The man named Ayan instantly erected an earthen wall in front of him.

Seeing that the man's superpower wasn't the black mist, the burly man realized he'd come to the wrong person.

His anger was rising as he couldn't catch the culprit for several days in a row!
