Chapter 173 Infiltration
Fu Jinxing frowned.
Josie peeked out from behind him, her voice clear and penetrating, and immediately offered the most tempting bargaining chip: "How long can your food reserves last? We have wood-type ability users who can cultivate crops in extreme environments. We have ways to awaken abilities in ordinary people, giving them the power to protect themselves. Do you want to hide in this cold metal shell like rats forever? Cooperate with us, and we can rebuild the outer defenses so you can breathe fresh air again!"
These words clearly struck a nerve with the people inside.
The mechanical sounds disappeared, leaving only the howling wind and snow.
It was as if I could sense the hesitation and struggle of the people behind the door.
Josie pressed her advantage: "You only get one chance! There are plenty of superhumans like us out there. We're only sitting down to talk because we want to preserve order and humanity. But next time, it might be beasts that only know how to kill and plunder! What will you use to fight back then?"
Another long, suffocating silence followed.
Just when Josie thought the other party had finally wavered,
"Final warning: Evacuate within one minute! Otherwise, open fire!" The mechanical voice sounded again, colder and more urgent than before!
"Damn it! He's completely stubborn!" a burly man cursed under his breath, his eyes cold.
A direct assault would be too risky, as the enemy has the advantage of terrain.
Left with no other choice, the group pretended to retreat, their figures quickly disappearing into the vast snowstorm.
The icy wind swirled in the mountain valley, whipping up snowflakes that lashed against everyone's tense faces.
The disguised entrance to the experimental base, like the tightly closed mouth of a lurking beast, exuded a silent threat.
Josie stared at the rock crevices where deadly gun barrels were hidden.
“Brother Jinxing,” her voice was exceptionally clear through the howling wind and snow, carrying a resolute determination, “we have no way out. A direct assault is too risky, and the casualties are uncontrollable. Shen Han and I will infiltrate and find out what’s inside. If the defenses are weak, or if we can find the control center, we’ll act directly, coordinating from the inside and outside, and take this place!”
Her goal was clear: they were determined to take this underground fortress with its stable energy supply and complete facilities!
However, it's not wrong for the other side to defend their homeland, so it's best to avoid a desperate fight and instead try to merge the two forces.
Fu Jinxing stood beside her, also staring at the cold entrance.
He knew better than anyone what retreating to the icy wilderness meant.
The severe cold will claim the lives of more elderly, infirm, and scientists; the loss of even one scientist is a huge loss to humanity.
He needs a stable, safe, and warm place, not only for the project, but also to make Xixi's life safer.
"Brother Jinxing, let's go then." Seeing that he didn't respond, Qiao Xi decided to take action immediately.
"Wait!" He stepped forward and blocked Josie's way. "If you're not going, I will."
Josie's brows furrowed instantly, clearly showing her disapproval due to concern.
Fu Jinxing seemed to see through her thoughts, and he reached out and gently placed his hand on Qiao Xi's shoulder.
"Good boy, listen to Brother Jinxing this time." He paused, then turned his gaze to Shen Han, who stood silently to the side, his aura icy cold. "Shen Han and I will go in. You stay here and direct the support."
Just as Qiao Xi was about to speak, Shen Han nodded in agreement, "Professor Fu and I will go. Xi Xi, you wait here for our news."
If possible, he would be more willing to travel with Fu Jinxing instead, and he doesn't want Xixi to take risks with him.
Qiao Xi's gaze lingered between Fu Jinxing and Shen Han.
The two have clearly formed a temporary alliance on this matter.
She had no choice but to suppress her resentment and worry, and finally nodded, her voice tinged with helplessness and solemnity: "Alright. But you must be careful! If anything goes wrong, retreat immediately. It's better for us to launch a strong attack than to be trapped inside!"
"Don't worry." Fu Jinxing gave her a reassuring smile, then his expression turned serious.
He turned to the other team members, his voice carrying the authority of a leader: "Everyone, stand by! Follow Josie's orders! Without orders, do not approach the entrance. Maintain the highest level of alert!"
The order was given, and the atmosphere became tense.
"Okay." Everyone said in unison.
Shen Han and Fu Jinxing exchanged a glance, and without a word, a tacit understanding arose.
Shen Han's body was the first to change. The black mist swirling around him suddenly became thicker and more viscous, violently churning and collapsing as if it had come alive, eventually transforming into a wisp of thick black mist that almost blended into the shadow of the rock, silent and invisible.
The black mist clung to the cold ground, like the most cunning venomous snake, silently sliding towards the barely perceptible gap in the metal door at the entrance.
At the same time, Fu Jinxing also began to activate his supernatural abilities. The light around him began to distort strangely, and his body outline became blurred, as if it were dissolving into the air.
Within seconds, he completely disappeared from everyone's sight!
Only the howling wind and snow and the cold rocks remained, as if he had never existed.
This scene secretly alarmed the team members who remained behind. Professor Fu was usually gentle and refined; they never expected his supernatural abilities to be so mysterious and unpredictable!
Two invisible figures, like two deadly ghosts, silently slipped through the crevice that symbolized life and death, completely disappearing into the unknown passageway where darkness and light intertwined inside the experimental base.
Inside the door, the air was warm but smelled of disinfectant, the metal walls were cold, and the red dot of the surveillance camera moved silently.
Outside the door was a frozen world and Josie's clenched fists and worried gaze.
The black mist formed from the coldness flowed forward like a sentient stream, clinging to the shadows of the cold metal ceiling, perfectly avoiding the sight of the guards patrolling the passage below and the rotating cameras overhead.
Fu Jinxing strode forward, but none of the cameras could capture his figure.
The two moved unimpeded through the brightly lit, heavily guarded base passageways.
In the brief moment after a patrol team rounded a bend, a chilling black mist cascaded down from the ceiling like a waterfall, coalescing into a blurry humanoid silhouette beside Fu Jinxing's invisible figure. A very low mental fluctuation, audible only to the two of them, was transmitted to him:
"Professor Fu, the entrance to the main control area is around the corner ahead. I'll go in first to scout out the personnel distribution and defenses in the core area. If the defenses are within my control, I'll try to break through the access control or subdue the guards. You stay here to keep watch and provide support, and wait for my signal. If the situation changes, or if you don't receive my message within three minutes, immediately retreat along the original route and notify Xixi to launch a full-scale attack!"
Fu Jinxing did not manifest in physical form, but a very slight response, like a vibration in the air, came from the air: "Hmm, be careful."
