Chapter 174 Joining You

Chapter 174 Joining You

Having reached a consensus, the black mist that Shen Han had transformed into rose up once more and disappeared like a ghost.

His gaze locked onto the two guards by the door, who were holding automatic rifles and seemed somewhat lax, like a venomous snake locking onto its prey.

Fu Jinxing remained completely still and invisible, as if he had blended into the cold metal wall.

He held his breath, his mind highly focused, monitoring the movements at both ends of the passage.

Meanwhile, several soldiers holding automatic rifles were intently watching the monitor screen on the wall.

"Have all those outsiders left the surveillance area?" A soldier who looked like a squad leader asked in a tense voice.

Another soldier quickly switched between different camera feeds, the screen showing only howling snow and empty mountain valleys.

"None of the external cameras can capture their heat signature or their figures, sir! They must have withdrawn!"

The squad leader had just breathed a sigh of relief and was about to order the alert to be lifted when a thick black fog drifted toward the entrance to the main control room like a ghost.

He no longer hid; the black mist suddenly expanded and churned, lunging at the two armed soldiers at the door like a living thing.

He had already circled the base extensively and discovered that the guards were merely soldiers with pistols on both sides.

He could easily take this place by himself.

Therefore, they launched an attack without any scruples.

"What the hell is that?" the soldier shouted in horror, instinctively raising his gun.

However, Shen Han was even faster! Thick black mist instantly wrapped around their gun barrels.

The black mist seemed to possess a tangible stickiness and corrosive power, like the most sophisticated mechanical malfunction, instantly jamming the firing pin inside the gun barrel.

"Click! Click!" The soldiers pulled the trigger in terror, but only a dull jamming sound answered them.

Ignoring the two guards, Shen Han floated towards the alloy door of the main control room.

The access control system flashes red and requires iris and palm print scans.

Without the slightest hesitation, he condensed a highly compressed ball of black mist energy, radiating an aura of destruction, in his palm and slammed it hard against the access control panel!

"Buzz, bang!" Sparks flew everywhere!

The control panel was instantly destroyed, and the piercing alarm stopped abruptly! The heavy alloy door groaned under the strain of mechanical friction as it slowly slid open a crack.

Almost at the same moment the door opened, the black mist formed from Shen Han surged in like a tide.

The five fully armed guards inside, who had just reacted and raised their guns, were horrified to find that their weapons were as if glued in place, and the triggers wouldn't budge.

"Fire! Fire now!" the guard captain roared, pulling the trigger in vain, only to be met with a clicking sound.

"Damn it! A superhuman!" another guard shouted in despair.

Shen Han's figure materialized in the shadows inside the doorway, his eyes as cold as knives: "Give up the resistance, and I won't kill you!"

In the chaotic moment when the alarm sounded in the control room and the gunshots malfunctioned, Fu Jinxing also moved.

He appeared instantly, like an invisible gust of wind, behind a patrolman who had come to investigate after hearing the commotion, at the corner of the passage.

With a precise and swift chop, the soldier collapsed to the ground without even uttering a sound.

The chaos in the control room and the unusual activity in the corridors completely shattered the peace of the base.

The piercing alarm, representing the highest level of intrusion, finally blared mournfully throughout the entire base.

The red light is flashing wildly!

"Now! Charge!"

Josie, who had been waiting outside the door with her breath held, heard the faint sounds of chaos and alarms coming from inside. She suddenly waved her hand and gave a stern order!

Luo Xiang and the other superhumans, who had been waiting for their turn, charged like tigers released from their cages, roaring as they rushed toward the door that had been slowly opened by the button pressed by Chen Han.

Josie charged in first, followed by the brave and fearless elite superhumans.

Inside the control room, the five guards, though their weapons were disabled, were filled with a desperate madness as they watched the enemy surge in like a tidal wave.

They roared, drew their military daggers and fighting sticks, and like moths to a flame, fearlessly charged at the superhumans at the front.

"Protect the professors!" The captain of the guard roared in a final, furious rage, his eyes bloodshot, as he thrust his dagger straight at the intruder.

However, their resistance was futile in the face of such an overwhelming power disparity.

Several guards were also instantly subdued by the superhuman, pinned to the ground, and groaned in pain.

"Stop!" A voice, aged yet full of authority, rang out.

Behind the main control room, a dozen pale and frightened researchers in white coats were huddled together, protected by two soldiers who had also been disarmed by the cold black mist.

One of the elderly professors, with gray hair, stepped forward. Although his body trembled slightly with fear, his eyes were unusually firm as he stared directly at Josie: "Who...who are you people? If you're going to kill, kill us! These children are innocent; they were just fulfilling their duty as soldiers! Please spare them!"

He spread his arms, trying to protect the young soldiers behind him who were pinned to the ground and were still struggling and glaring angrily.

Hearing the old professor's words, the guard captain, who was being held down on the ground, struggled even more desperately, roaring, "Professor Wang! Don't worry about us! We are insignificant, you are our hope!"

Several young soldiers, their eyes brimming with tears, struggled to stand up, determined to stand in front of the scientists even with their bare hands, their faces filled with the tragic heroism of "sacrificing their lives in the line of duty."

This scene moved even Josie and the others who rushed in.

In this apocalyptic world, where humanity has been extinguished, she had not seen such selfless people in a long time. Their loyalty and spirit of sacrifice were awe-inspiring.

Fu Jinxing had also deactivated his invisibility and revealed his form.

He walked to Josie's side, looked at the soldiers who were ready to die for their cause and the scientists who were fiercely protective of their children, adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, and spoke in a steady and clear voice, with the calmness and persuasiveness unique to researchers: "Don't worry. I just said outside that I am Fu Jinxing, a first-level researcher at the National Academy of Sciences. My identification code CN-S-74829 can be verified in the Academy's database. We are not here to slaughter and plunder."

His gaze swept over the soldiers who were being held down. "We will not harm these dutiful soldiers, nor will we harm you, these valuable scientific researchers. What we need is a safe research environment, a place where the flame of human civilization can continue."

Josie stepped forward, looking at Professor Wang who was protecting the soldiers and the stubborn young soldiers on the ground. She sighed softly, her tone tinged with helplessness and sincerity: "Professor Wang, my fellow soldiers, why can't you think about things from a different perspective?"

Her gaze swept across the entire control room, over the faces of the scientists who were still in shock but full of wisdom. "We're not here to plunder your homes, we're here to join you! It's freezing cold outside, and order has collapsed. We need this place, but we also need you!"
