Chapter 178 True Despair

Chapter 178 True Despair

But that wasn't all. A fierce glint flashed in Josh's eyes, and he delivered three more kicks in quick succession!

He stomped precisely and ruthlessly on his other hand and both knees.

"Snap! Snap! Snap!"

The sickening sound of bones cracking rang out one after another!

The man was like a puppet whose strings had been removed; his limbs were twisted at bizarre angles, and he had completely lost all ability to move. He could only writhe and howl in pain in the snow like a maggot.

"You...you wicked woman! What are you going to do? Kill me! Give me a quick death!" he roared, fear finally overpowering the pain.

Josie sneered, bent down, roughly grabbed the sleeve of his broken arm, and dragged him down the mountain, stumbling along.

A long, blood-stained drag mark was left on the cold snow.

"Where...where are you taking me? Let me go!" The man struggled in terror, but only intensified his pain.

"Go where you belong." Josie's voice was cold and emotionless, like the pronouncement of death.

"XiXi!" After dealing with the last few deserters, Shen Han and Xie Jue immediately noticed Qiao Xi's movements. Worried that she might be in danger acting alone, they quickly caught up with her.

"You're going to deal with him?" Shen Han frowned as he looked at the enemy lying on the ground, which resembled a pile of mud.

“This beast doesn’t want to die a good death, so I’ll let him taste… what true despair is.” Josie’s voice carried a chilling coldness.

Shen Han and Xie Jue exchanged a glance, but neither of them spoke. They simply followed silently behind her, like two loyal shadow guards.

They understood Josie's anger and knew that in this apocalyptic world, mercy towards certain enemies was cruelty towards one's own people.

Half an hour later, Josie dragged the thug who kept cursing, howling, and eventually turned into a powerless groan, to the edge of an abandoned town in a sheltered spot at the foot of the mountain.

Josie looked at his dying state and said, "Hang in there, don't die."

If a man still has the strength, he only wants to take care of himself.

The wind and snow seemed to have subsided a bit, but a faint, unsettling stench of decay began to permeate the air.

"Hah...uh..." In the distance, faint hissing sounds, like phlegm stuck in the throat, could be heard from the zombies, and there was more than one of them.

"What...what do you want? There are zombies here! Let me go! Please! Kill me!" The man panicked completely, the fear of death overwhelmed everything.

"You'll find out soon enough." Josie stopped and tossed him into the snow like trash.

She crouched down and drew a sharp dagger from her waist.

"No! No! Please! We are all human beings! Let me go... I know I was wrong... I can do anything for you..." The man begged for mercy, tears streaming down his face, his words incoherent.

Josie remained expressionless, and with a swift motion, precisely slashed a deep gash near his femoral artery, exposing the bone! Warm blood gushed out instantly, emitting a strong metallic smell in the cold air!

"Ah!" The man let out a bloodcurdling scream like a pig being slaughtered.

But to the surrounding zombies, the smell of blood was like the strongest signal flare!

"Hehe!"

"Ugh!"

The distant roars suddenly became clearer and more urgent!

A series of heavy, disordered footsteps began to echo from the ruins in all directions, growing ever closer.

One by one, stiff, rotting figures began to appear at the edge of the field of vision, their turbid eyes fixed on the bright red "food" in the snow!

"No! No! You can't do this to me! Let me die! Kill me!" the man screamed desperately, futilely twisting his immobile limbs as he watched the terrifying figures getting closer and closer. The immense fear nearly drove him to the brink of collapse.

Josie slowly backed away, observing coldly as if watching a meticulously choreographed death drama.

"You and your accomplices, who take pleasure in torture and cannibalism, are no longer worthy of being called human beings."

Her voice was clear and cold in the wind, "In your next life, remember to be reborn as a real animal, maybe you can live a little longer."

No sooner had he finished speaking than the first, fastest zombie pounced, its rotting mouth opening to reveal yellowed, blackened teeth, and it bit down hard on the man's bleeding thigh.

"Ah!!!" A scream so shrill it was inhuman echoed through the ruins!

Then, a second, a third... more and more zombies surrounded them and began to bite them frantically.

They didn't bite directly into vital organs, but greedily gnawed at his limbs and abdomen... making him clearly feel the excruciating pain and indescribable horror of his flesh being torn off piece by piece!

The screams gradually weakened, eventually turning into meaningless groans and desperate convulsions.

He watched helplessly as his limbs were devoured, his consciousness slowly fading away in endless pain and fear until he was completely plunged into eternal darkness.

Josie stood in the cold wind not far away, watching all this expressionlessly until the mangled corpse stopped moving completely, then she slowly turned around.

Shen Han and Xie Jue stood silently behind her, shielding her from the wind and snow.

"Go back." Josie's voice was devoid of any emotion, as if she had just thrown away a piece of trash.

After dealing with the thugs, Josie turned around, exuding a chilling aura.

Shen Han held her cold hand with concern, "Are you alright?"

Dealing with a few disgusting beasts won't affect her much.

So she looked up at the man who cared about her and smiled, "It's okay, let's go home!"

After saying that, he called out to Xie Jue, who was standing to the side, "Come on, Xiao Jue."

Xie Jue followed behind the two, watching them occasionally turn their heads to look at each other.

He couldn't hear what they were saying, but he felt as if his sister was looking at him so intently.

Soon, they returned to the experimental base.

The heavy alloy door slowly closed behind her, shutting out the cruel and cold world outside once again.

Inside the passageway, people were silently cleaning up the traces of the battle.

The wounded have been properly cared for, and the bodies of the victims have been covered with white sheets. The atmosphere is somber yet orderly.

When Josie noticed that after they returned from their trip, the original staff members looked at them with a somewhat complicated expression.

The original staff witnessed firsthand the immense power of Shen Han and other superhumans.

Their strength was beyond their imagination. This group of people, who possessed such terrifying power, did not use violence against them. Instead, they stepped forward in the moment of crisis to protect the base that they regarded as their home.

It even gave them a distorted sense of "relief" and "security".

A silent understanding and acceptance flowed slowly in the air, where the smell of blood had not yet completely dissipated.

From that day on, the barrier that had always stood between the two groups was finally broken.
