Chapter 221 Only You
Fortunately, Josie didn't make things difficult for her. She nodded calmly and said in a composed tone, "Yes, he's my neighbor's older brother. We grew up together, and I've liked him since I was little."
There was no attempt to hide anything in her words.
Looking into her clear and honest eyes, Lu's mother sighed inwardly.
Unexpectedly, this girl was so honest and never intended to hide anything from them from the beginning.
Moreover... it seems that although her son is extremely outstanding, all the men surrounding Josie are exceptionally talented and one in a million.
"Never mind," she told herself again. Times have really changed, and young people's thoughts and ways of life are different now.
"Auntie?" Seeing that Lu's mother remained silent for a long time, only looking at her with complicated eyes, Qiao Xi couldn't help but call out again.
She maintained a polite demeanor towards Lu's mother largely because she was Lu Yuyang's mother.
But if the other party is there to condemn or lecture, then she doesn't need to continue the conversation.
"Hey, Xixi, Auntie didn't mean anything by it, don't overthink it."
Lu's mother immediately came to her senses and hurriedly explained, while carefully taking out a simple and exquisite wooden gift box from her pocket.
In front of Josie, she gently opened the box. Inside, on a red velvet cloth, lay a richly colored, lustrous, and translucent emerald bracelet, clearly valuable and ancient.
Mother Lu took out the bracelet, her eyes filled with a solemn meaning: "This was given to me by Yu Yang's grandmother back then. She said it was passed down in the Lu family to the eldest daughter-in-law, and that I should give it to Yu Yang's chosen other half in the future."
Upon hearing this, Josie frowned slightly: "Auntie, this is too valuable and has great significance. I can't accept it."
She instinctively wanted to refuse.
She was well aware of her situation and knew she couldn't bear the title of "Lu's eldest daughter-in-law," let alone the responsibilities that came with it.
However, without saying a word, Lu's mother took her hand, her voice gentle yet firm, and gently slipped the cool, heavy bracelet onto her slender, fair wrist.
"Look, Xixi has fair skin, this bracelet looks really good on you, it suits you so well." Mother Lu examined her, a look of satisfaction in her eyes.
Seeing that Qiao Xi seemed to still want to take it off, Lu's mother gently pressed her hand down, sighed, and said in a much more sincere tone, "Xi Xi, the main reason I came today is to tell you that your uncle and I... have come to a realization. What happens between you and Yu Yang, or between you and Professor Fu and the others, is your own business and your choice. Since Yu Yang is so determined to have you, and can't live without you, then this bracelet should belong to you. Auntie... only recognizes you."
She didn't even give Josie a chance to refuse again, and stood up with a smile: "Auntie just came to give you this bracelet and to see you. I won't keep you from resting any longer. You must be exhausted from your journey. Get some sleep. Auntie will come to see you again when you're rested."
After saying that, she seemed to have accomplished something important, and left Josh's room with light steps, considerately closing the door behind her before leaving.
Josie looked at the closed door, raised her wrist, and looked at the jade bracelet that shimmered with a deep green light under the lamp.
This bracelet is of excellent quality, with good translucency and vibrant color; it is clearly a treasure.
But... after thinking about it, she carefully took off the bracelet and gently placed it on the bedside table.
If Lu's mother doesn't accept it, she'll return it to Lu Yuyang later.
To avoid it getting broken from being pulled and tugged.
In just a short while, she yawned, feeling sleepy.
This job has been a constant source of tension, and I'm truly feeling physically and mentally exhausted right now.
She lay back on the soft, comfortable bed and fell into a deep sleep almost the instant her head touched the pillow.
She didn't know how long she slept, but when she slowly woke up, it was already dark outside the window.
She vaguely sensed that someone was in the room.
Turning my head, I saw Lu Yuyang standing not far from the bedside table, holding the emerald bracelet in his hand, quietly examining it in the dim light coming in from the window.
Noticing the movement on the bed, he turned his head, a gentle smile on his face: "Awake?"
His voice was low and hoarse, with a hint of fatigue, yet exceptionally gentle.
Josie rubbed her slightly disheveled hair and propped herself up to sit up: "What are you doing here?"
"I just finished settling everyone I brought from the safe zone in, and I took some time to come and see you."
As Lu Yuyang spoke, he put down the bracelet, walked a few steps to the bedside, sat down naturally on the edge of the bed, and stretched out his arm to pull her into his arms from behind.
Josie relaxed and leaned against his firm, warm shoulder, looking up at him and noticing the obvious weariness in his eyes: "I'm asking... how did you get in?"
She remembered locking the door.
“Chen Han opened the door for me.” Lu Yuyang chuckled softly, gently rubbing his chin against the top of her head. “He said you were probably still asleep and told me not to wake you.”
Josie understood, then remembered the bracelet and pointed to the bedside table: "That bracelet was brought over by your mother this afternoon. Remember to take it back to her when you go home later."
"Yes, I can tell. It's the one my grandmother left me." Lu Yuyang responded, not looking at the bracelet, but instead raising his hand, taking her slender fingers in his palm, and gently stroking them. His tone was emotionless. "Don't you like it?"
He turned his head to look at her, his eyes deep.
Josie shook her head: "It's not that I don't like the bracelet itself. It's just that... its meaning is too special, and it's not appropriate for me to have it."
"Hmm?" Lu Yuyang seemed surprised by her reasoning and raised an eyebrow, signaling her to continue.
Josie turned around to face him, her tone earnest and honest, "This was left by your grandmother to your mother, for your mother to give to her future daughter-in-law. It represents uniqueness and recognition. As for me... I can't give you all my love, nor can I be a 'Lu family daughter-in-law' in the traditional sense. So, it shouldn't be with me."
Lu Yuyang's eyes flickered, a complex light flashing across them.
He hasn't fully accepted or adapted to this shared relationship yet, and he can't truly remain indifferent while watching her be intimate with other men.
But... he tried his best because he knew that losing her was far more unbearable for him than sharing her.
And the one he has chosen as his other half, from beginning to end, will only ever be her.
He didn't answer her directly. Instead, he picked up the bracelet, took her wrist, and solemnly and personally slipped the cool jade bracelet back onto her wrist.
His tone was calm yet carried an undeniable firmness: "If you don't want it, then it has no meaning. You can throw it away, or put it away somewhere else. But it belongs to you."
