Chapter 231 Favoritism

Chapter 231 Favoritism

His voice was choked with sobs, and his acting was so realistic that he seemed like a pitiful creature tormented by fate.

However, the instant he finished speaking, a flash of extreme ruthlessness and madness suddenly appeared in his eyes!

He gathered all the remaining energy in his body, and with a gulp, a thin but exceptionally hot line of fire, which embodied his last hope, shot towards Fu Jinxing's face like a viper's hiss.

This was his final, hidden attack!

Unfortunately, he was facing Fu Jinxing.

Fu Jinxing, who never believed a single word he said and had anticipated all of his possible schemes.

Just a millisecond before the fire was unleashed, Fu Jinxing's figure vanished into thin air once again, like a ghost!

The live wire missed its target, burning into the broken wall behind it and leaving a charred hole.

The next moment, a cold, sharp blade made entirely of wind energy, like the kiss of death, silently and precisely pierced Qin Feng's heart from behind!

"Well……"

Qin Feng froze instantly.

His eyes widened as he looked down in disbelief at the blood-stained, transparent tip of the knife protruding from his chest.

Fu Jinxing's figure slowly appeared behind him, his voice still calm and even carrying a hint of academic indifference: "I said, I don't believe you can still breathe."

"How...how could this be...?"

Qin Feng's strength rapidly dissipated as his life faded, and his body slumped forward.

Vision began to blur into darkness, and grand ambitions, the thirst for power, and all visions for the future... shattered like bubbles.

His envisioned future is one where he plunders countless supernatural abilities, ascends to the top of the world, controls all resources, and becomes the sole king of the apocalypse…

But in the end, all that entered his gradually dilating pupils was Fu Jinxing's blurry yet cold face, and a whisper that drifted into his ears, shattering all his illusions:

"The body of a raider...I wonder if it will be helpful for the research."

With a hint of curiosity about the unknown sample, Fu Jinxing calmly withdrew his energy blade.

The last glimmer of light in Qin Feng's eyes went out completely, and he collapsed heavily into the cold ruins, his life extinguished.

********

As night fell, the lights of the base gradually illuminated the landscape, outlining the silhouette of this rare safe haven in the post-apocalyptic world.

Josie stood alone by the window of the command room, her fingertips unconsciously curling up.

Fu Jinxing has been gone for over a week and still hasn't returned.

There's also a ticking time bomb nearby—Qin Feng.

“We can’t wait any longer,” she turned to Shen Han, who was examining the defense blueprints, and said again, “Shen Han, I have to go out and check tomorrow. I’m worried that Brother Jinxing might be in trouble.”

Shen Han looked up from the blueprints, his brows furrowed. "Xi Xi, I understand your concern for Professor Fu. But he took away nearly a third of the base's high-level combat power, and our defenses are already stretched thin. And Qin Feng, who can steal superpowers, is lurking in some unknown corner. If I leave with you, what if…"

He paused, his tone softening, reassuring: "Wait two more days. If there's still no more definite news, once everything is settled, I'll personally go with you to find it. Okay?"

Just then, the door was pushed open, and Feng Ye walked in, bringing with him the chill of the night.

He had just finished a round of outer patrols when he received Shen Han's message and rushed over immediately.

When Shen Han saw him, he seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, stood up and patted Feng Ye on the shoulder: "You've come at the right time. Keep Xixi company. I have to go and get the men on night duty."

Now the base is their stronghold. With Fu Jinxing gone and external threats still present, the core members take turns on guard duty, not daring to relax in the slightest.

The door closed gently, leaving only the two people inside.

Feng Ye walked a few steps to Qiao Xi and pulled her into his arms.

His arms were strong and powerful, trapping her in the world of his embrace.

"Are you that worried about him?" The man's voice was deep and unreadable, but Josie keenly sensed a hidden danger, like a cheetah poised to pounce.

“He’s been gone for too long, a week now. I’m worried he’s run into Qin Feng…” Qiao Xi leaned against him, her voice muffled.

Feng Ye let out a soft snort, tightening his grip on her waist. "He's surrounded by over thirty elite high-level ability users. Qiao Xi, should I remind you that back then, to catch up with you, I often had to fight my way in and out of hordes of zombies all by myself?"

There was a subtle hint of bitterness in his words.

It's not that he hasn't been injured, or that he hasn't faced life-or-death situations, but he has silently hidden those scars and never easily shows them to others.

He could accept that there were other people around her to protect her, but he couldn't stand that she would put all her worries and favoritism on one person.

Josie felt a little guilty, her fingertips unconsciously fidgeting with the buckles on his combat uniform: "Didn't we... break up back then?"

"So you weren't worried at all after we broke up?"

Feng Ye lowered his head, his hot breath brushing against her earlobe, and questioned her dangerously.

Josie was speechless, feeling like she had dug a hole and buried herself.

She quickly raised her head, cupped Feng Ye's well-defined face in her hands, and tried to get away with a kiss.

Feng Ye tilted his head slightly, and her kiss only landed on the corner of his lips.

"Trying to distract me like this?" He raised an eyebrow, his tone still dangerous.

Josie didn't answer, but leaned in again, this time giving him no chance to dodge. Her soft arms wrapped tightly around his neck, and she practically hung on him, her warm, soft lips precisely covering his.

Feng Ye's body tensed instantly, then became hot.

All the questions and grievances were ignited by this proactive kiss, turning into an even more turbulent wave.

He groaned, lifted her up by her hips and carried her to the table beside him. A torrent of hot, punishing kisses rained down on her, forcefully prying open her teeth and stealing her breath.

The indoor temperature suddenly rose, and the ambiguous sounds were particularly clear in the quiet room.

In a moment of passion and confusion, Feng Ye buried his face in her neck and whispered fiercely, his voice hoarse and barely audible: "If you dare to be so biased again... I'll make sure you can't get out of bed for three days..."

Josie's body went limp, and she leaned on his shoulder, her breath unsteady. "I wasn't biased... I was worried about you too... It's just... I just couldn't bring myself to do it back then..."

These words were like a bucket of warm water, instantly extinguishing the resentment and jealousy churning in Feng Ye's heart.

He paused, looked up, and his dark eyes locked onto her slightly flushed cheeks: "You didn't lie to me?"

Josie smiled and leaned in to kiss his chin: "I'm not lying to you. If I didn't like you, I wouldn't have... stayed with you in the first place."

Feng Ye's taut jawline finally softened, and a clear curve appeared at the corner of his mouth.

He kissed her again, this time with less possessive domineering force and more indescribable tenderness and affection...
