Chapter 233 Her Men

Chapter 233 Her Men

Fu Jinxing leaned down slightly, close to her ear, and spoke in a lower, yet clearer voice: "Qin Feng... I've taken care of him."

Josie froze, blinking as if she hadn't quite caught on.

Several seconds later, a huge wave of joy washed over her. She hugged Fu Jinxing's arm tightly, her eyes shining brightly as if a thousand stars had fallen into them: "Really? You're not lying to me? He... he's really dead?"

“Hmm,” Fu Jinxing looked at her delighted expression, his smile deepening. He gently patted the top of her head. “So you won’t have to worry all the time. Let’s get rid of him before he gets too powerful, to prevent future troubles.”

"That's great!" Josie excitedly gave a thumbs up, her face filled with undisguised admiration and pride. "It has to be my brother Jinxing! He's so amazing at everything he does!"

Fu Jinxing was amused by her exaggerated praise and flicked her forehead lightly with his finger: "You little flatterer. Let's go in first, I'll tell you the details when we get back."

He took her hand and walked side by side toward the base gate.

The setting sun cast long shadows of the two of them, intertwining them as if they could never be separated.

The base's lights were warm and bright, comforting everyone returning from outside.

"Go wash up first, and I'll have someone bring you your food."

As soon as the two entered the gate of the core area, Josie was about to step forward to give instructions to the logistics staff.

She had only taken two steps when Fu Jinxing grabbed her arm. "No rush, there are still things to take care of. I need to hand them over first."

Ten minutes later, the atmosphere in the conference room in the core area was solemn and focused.

A huge city map was laid out on the central table, divided into different areas by markers of various colors.

Fu Jinxing pointed his finger at the park area marked with the symbol of the azure energy pool, his voice calm and clear:

"This energy pool must be completely brought under our control. The high-level crystal cores it produces and the primordial energy it contains are the core foundation for our future development. But that's not enough; we need to find more."

He raised his head, his gaze behind his gold-rimmed glasses sweeping over the men sitting around the table—Feng Ye, Shen Han, Lu Yuyang, and several core combat captains.

“We need to divide the work,” Fu Jinxing continued. “I have an important experiment to conduct next, so I’ll be stationed at the base.”

His gaze turned to Feng Ye, filled with absolute trust: "For the mission of finding a new energy pool, Feng Ye, you are the most suitable. You are good at wilderness survival, have keen senses, and your combat strength is sufficient to handle most emergencies."

Feng Ye leaned back in his chair with his arms crossed. Hearing this, he merely twitched the corner of his mouth, his eyes sharp as a hawk's: "Fine."

“Chen Han, Yu Yang,” Fu Jinxing said, turning to the other two, “you will take turns leading the elite squad to guard the discovered energy pool, ensuring its safety. At the same time, you must regularly and safely return the collected crystal cores to the base. This is our most important resource at this stage, and we cannot afford to lose it. It is most appropriate for you to handle this.”

Shen Han and Lu Yuyang had no objections and nodded in agreement.

Finally, Fu Jinxing turned to Xie Jue, who was standing to one side and had little presence, and said, "Xiao Jue, your special ability is best suited for surprise attacks. I'm entrusting Xixi's safety to you. Can you do it?"

Xie Jue immediately and solemnly declared, "I will protect Sister Xixi with my life."

The men also knew that although Xie Jue was young, his strength should not be underestimated.

Besides, Xixi is at the base, where the safety level is high, so they can feel at ease when they go out.

The tasks were clearly assigned, and everyone shouldered heavy responsibilities. For the future of the base, and for the person they all wanted to protect, no one objected.

After the meeting, the men swiftly began to take action.

Josie had just gone to the logistics department to instruct them to prepare dinner for Fu Jinxing and the other newly returned superhumans.

As I walked over, I first encountered Shen Han.

Shen Han strode up to Qiao Xi, pulled her into a tight embrace, and rubbed his chin against the top of her head. His tone was apologetic and reluctant: "We just finished discussing this, and I have to take people to the energy pool immediately. Although we left some people to guard it, I must go there in person to oversee things, in case other powerful forces come and try to seize it."

Josie hugged his strong waist back, her face pressed against his warm chest, and she could hear his steady heartbeat: "Yeah, I know. Be careful, I'll wait for you to come back."

Shen Han was initially a little worried about leaving her at the base, but when she thought that Fu Jinxing and Xie Jue were there, and that Lu Yuyang and she could take turns coming back to check on her, she felt a little more at ease.

He lowered his head and gave her a light kiss on the lips. "I'll switch shifts with Lu Yuyang and come back to be with you in a while."

"Okay, be careful."

Even though she was reluctant, for their future, Shen Han still let go.

I forced myself to turn around and stride away.

Immediately afterward, Feng Ye also came over.

His way of saying goodbye was always more direct and passionate. He pulled Josie into his arms, holding her tightly as if he wanted to meld her into his body.

“I’m going out too,” he said in a low voice, “to find a new energy pool. Don’t worry, come back when you find one.”

Josie nodded in his arms, her voice muffled: "Okay, I'll wait for you to come back."

Feng Ye lowered his head, his nose almost brushing against hers, his dark eyes surging with undisguised longing.

The next second, he had already captured her lips, giving her a brief but extremely aggressive deep kiss.

"Come back... and treat me well."

Josie pinched his waist muscle. "Don't just think about those things, be careful."

Feng Ye's lips curled into a smile. "Okay."

With long strides, he swiftly and decisively led his men away from the end of the base's passageway.

After the energetic men left, the base seemed to instantly become much emptier and quieter.

Josie took a deep breath and turned to walk towards the conference room.

Fu Jinxing was indeed still inside, deep in thought, staring at the data on the screen. His profile looked particularly serious under the screen's light.

Josie quietly walked over, reached out from behind and hugged his neck, resting her chin on his broad shoulder.

Fu Jinxing relaxed almost immediately, a slight smile curving his lips. He raised his hand to cover her hands, which were clasped across his chest, and gently held them: "What's wrong? Did you send them away?"

His tone carried a hint of indulgence and pampering.

Josie tilted her head, her cheek pressed against his temple, her voice tinged with worry: "Brother Jinxing, I was just thinking... there will probably be even more extreme weather this summer. If this continues, humanity... might really slowly become extinct."

This is not an exaggeration.

Having memories of her past life, she knew clearly that after the third year of the apocalypse, ordinary people were almost impossible to find.

Those who survived either possessed their own superpowers or relied on powerful superpowered individuals, but their numbers dwindled to a pitiful degree.

If history repeats itself, the flame of human civilization may indeed be extinguished completely in a few decades.
