Chapter 241 Triggering Hidden Memories
The vague, chaotic, and indescribable emotions of the past two months seemed to find an outlet at this moment, becoming clear and intense.
His gaze was almost uncontrollably fixed on her, greedily following her every move.
At that very moment, all the confusion in his mind suddenly dissipated, and everything settled down.
He wanted to be with her.
More than just cooperation, more than just allies.
Almost instinctively, he stood up and walked step by step toward Josie, who was not far away.
Josie noticed someone approaching and turned around.
When her gaze met Mu Yanzhou's deep eyes, a clear look of surprise appeared on her face, followed by a slow, relaxed, and familiar smile curving upwards at the corners of her lips:
"Mu Yanzhou? What a coincidence, you're here too?" Her tone was as if she had met an old friend.
Mu Yanzhou suppressed the surging emotions in his heart and tried his best to make his expression look natural. He replied in the same familiar tone, "Yes, it's a coincidence. I brought my team out to search for survivors and collect some crystal cores. I originally planned to go to the Spring City base to find you after I finished dealing with things here, but I didn't expect to run into you here."
"Looking for us?" Josie raised an eyebrow.
“Yes,” Mu Yanzhou nodded, finding the most legitimate reason, “I want to exchange another batch of catalysts with you. The effect is better than expected.”
“Sure,” Josie readily agreed, then explained, “Then come back to Spring City with us. We’ve been staying out here for over two months, it’s about time we went back.”
"You've been out for more than two months?" Mu Yanzhou was somewhat surprised. He subconsciously scrutinized her, as if trying to find traces of hardship on her face, but found that she was still radiant, only with a hint of fatigue in her eyes.
“Yes,” Josie sighed, “The base needs more manpower to develop. We also need survivors to expand our influence.”
Mu Yanzhou replied almost without hesitation, "Alright, then I'll go back to Chuncheng with you first." This suited him perfectly.
With the help of Mu Yanzhou and others, the survivors in Seoul were able to gather in the last two days.
As the sun rose in the morning, Josie looked at the group of people who were already prepared and said, "Let's go! From now on, everyone will have a bright and promising future!"
Everyone got excited, and they looked forward to a bright future.
They traveled and collected survivors along the way, and five days passed in the blink of an eye.
The team set up camp to rest in a valley with a clean water source.
As the weather gradually warmed up, Josie felt sweaty all over. She remembered that she had taken another route to get here, and there was a waterfall no more than two or three miles away.
Everyone else had already set up camp and was resting, and she wanted to rush over to take a thorough shower.
Wiping with a small amount of water is fine for a short time, but it always feels unclean over time.
"Xiao Jue, come with me. I want to go to the waterfall to wash up."
"Okay, sister, wait for me to go and tell them."
Xie Jue returned quickly and escorted Qiao Xi away from the group.
There were few zombies in this area; they had hardly encountered any along the way.
After walking for a long time, we saw a small waterfall cascading down from the cliff, which gathered into a crystal-clear pool. Under the moonlight, it shimmered and sparkled, making it a rare place to wash up in the apocalypse.
"Sister, you go ahead, I'll wait for you here. Call me if anything happens."
"Okay, then please wait for me a little longer, I might take quite a while."
"Okay, sister, no rush, take your time washing," Xie Jue replied, his voice steady, without giving it any thought.
He simply stood like the most loyal guard, holding his breath and intently watching for any potential dangers around him.
However, the waiting time seemed a bit too long.
As night deepened, only the sounds of flowing water and chirping insects filled the valley.
A sense of inexplicable worry gradually arose in Xie Jue's heart. What if her sister slipped and fell? What if she encountered some hidden danger?
This worry drove him to glance back very quickly and instinctively.
That one glance made his blood seem to freeze instantly, then surge wildly again in the next second!
Under the bright moonlight, Josie stood with her back to him in water that was up to her thighs deep, preparing to lean over.
The water flowed down her smooth back, her slender waist, and her pert hips. Her skin shone with a soft, lustrous glow like the finest pearls in the moonlight. Her figure was perfectly proportioned, breathtakingly beautiful, like a goddess who had accidentally fallen to earth under the moon.
Xie Jue's heart skipped a beat, then pounded wildly with unprecedented force, making his eardrums buzz!
He turned his head sharply as if he had been burned, his cheeks, ears, and neck instantly turning bright red.
However, that fleeting glimpse of the scene was like the deepest imprint, firmly nailed to his mind, and he could not shake it off no matter what.
The boy clenched his fists, his breathing became rapid and erratic, a strange and surging emotion raging in his chest, leaving him bewildered.
Josie, however, was completely unaware of this in the pool.
She had just taken off her last piece of clothing and was about to immerse herself in the water to enjoy the coolness when she suddenly heard a "splash" sound from the water beside her.
"Who?" she gasped in fright, her foot slipped in her panic, and she fell backward!
The expected collision did not occur; a strong and warm arm caught her by the waist and gently brought her to safety.
The next second, she crashed into a solid, hot male chest!
Josie looked up, still shaken, and met Mu Yanzhou's equally astonished gaze.
He clearly hadn't expected anyone to be washing up here. He had just surfaced from underwater when he caught Josie as she fell.
He was embraced by a warm, soft body, her delicate, smooth skin pressed tightly against his. The sensation made Mu Yanzhou stiffen, his mind went blank for a moment, triggering a memory firmly etched into his brain.
Meanwhile, Xie Jue, upon hearing Qiao Xi's scream and the sound of falling into the water, turned around abruptly without thinking.
They happened to witness Qiao Xi being held tightly in Mu Yanzhou's arms while completely naked.
The boy's eyes instantly turned red, his gaze so sinister and terrifying it looked like he wanted to kill someone!
"What are you doing! Let go of my sister!" he roared, like an enraged cub, leaping from the bank to rush into the pool to snatch her away.
Josie was incredibly embarrassed at that moment.
Instead of getting up immediately, she subconsciously buried herself even closer to Mu Yanzhou, trying to use his body to cover herself so that Xie Jue wouldn't see her naked.
The arm wrapped around her waist was burning hot, and the male body pressed against her was taut and full of power.
Josie's cheek was pressed against his wet chest, and she could hear his equally disordered heartbeat.
