Chapter 246 A Slight Headache
Little did Josie know that the shadows in the hallway outside her door were not empty.
Mu Yanzhou and Xie Jue stood there, like two silent statues, seemingly out of nowhere.
As a superhuman's level increases, their five senses will become more and more acute.
They could all hear faint, ambiguous, and alluring sounds coming from the room, intermittently, yet so clear they were almost suffocating.
Mu Yanzhou's face appeared somewhat pale in the dim light. He clenched his fists, his voice unusually dry: "They...are together?"
Xie Jue leaned against the opposite wall, his eyes dark and unfathomable. Hearing this, he simply gave a low "hmm".
He paused for a moment, as if deliberately, or as if stating a fact, before adding, "Sister Xixi is pregnant. Professor Fu cherishes her very much. She is very happy now."
His words were like a cold knife, piercing precisely into Mu Yanzhou's heart.
Xie Jue's meaning was clear: he was trying to dissuade Mu Yanzhou from disturbing Qiao Xi's hard-won peace and happiness.
Mu Yanzhou abruptly closed his eyes, and when he opened them again after a long while, the depths of his eyes revealed undisguised pain and loss.
His attraction came at the worst possible time.
No man can truly accept with a smile that the woman he loves is in another man's arms, or even carrying another man's child.
That sense of powerlessness and sharp jealousy almost tore him apart.

In the early morning, sunlight streamed into the bedroom through the gaps in the curtains.
Fu Jinxing woke up first. He looked at Qiao Xi, who was still fast asleep in his arms. Her sleeping face was peaceful, and there was even a faint smile on her lips, as if she was having a good dream.
His heart was filled with indescribable satisfaction and tenderness. He couldn't help but lower his head and place two gentle kisses on her smooth forehead and slightly swollen lips, his movements slow and gentle so as not to wake her.
He carefully pulled his arm out from under her neck, tucked the blanket around her, then got out of bed, dressed, and quietly left the room.
Josie slept very soundly and peacefully, and didn't wake up naturally until the sun was high in the sky.
She stretched lazily, her body feeling as if it had been disassembled and reassembled, carrying a post-coital soreness, yet also exuding a strange sense of satisfaction.
As she gradually regained consciousness, she looked at the bright light streaming in through the window and listened to the faint sounds of the base operating in the distance. Suddenly, she felt that life like this was truly wonderful.
Safe, stable, and no longer lacking food and clothing.
She also has a man who truly loves and cherishes her, and whom she also loves.
Her lips unconsciously turned up, revealing a warm and genuine smile.
I got out of bed, washed up, changed into clean and comfortable clothes, and was about to go see what was left for breakfast when there was a gentle knock on the door.
"Who is it?" she asked as she walked toward the door.
Josie opened the door and was somewhat surprised to see Mu Yanzhou standing outside.
The morning light fell on him, but it seemed unable to dispel the gloom between his brows. His face looked somewhat pale, and there were some barely perceptible bloodshot veins in his eyes, as if he had not slept well last night.
"Mu Yanzhou?" Qiao Xi was slightly surprised. "So early? Are you not used to staying here? Please feel free to ask if you need anything."
She subconsciously assumed that the base's hospitality was inadequate, preventing the other party from getting a proper rest.
Mu Yanzhou shook his head, his gaze calmly falling on her face, his expression so complex that Qiao Xi couldn't quite understand it.
He paused for a few seconds, as if making a decision, before speaking, his voice slightly hoarse: "It's not about where we live. Josie, are you... pregnant?"
Josie was taken aback, not expecting him to ask that question so suddenly.
How did he know?
But this wasn't something she needed to hide, so she nodded and readily admitted, "Yes, that's right."
Upon receiving an affirmative answer, Mu Yanzhou's eyes seemed to darken even further.
He took two steps forward, closing the distance between them, his gaze fixed on her, his tone urgent and earnest, even carrying a sense of desperation: "Josh, I hope you're alright..."
He had barely begun speaking when he was interrupted by the sound of hurried footsteps.
"Chief! So you're here!" A man came running up, panting, his face filled with anxiety. He greeted Josie when he saw her, "Miss Josie."
Mu Yanzhou was interrupted, his brows furrowing almost imperceptibly as he looked at his subordinate: "What is it?"
The subordinate glanced at Josie beside him, looking somewhat hesitant, but still lowered his voice and said, "It's urgent, and we need you to go back and discuss it."
Mu Yanzhou's words caught in his throat. He looked at Qiao Xi, his eyes filled with unfinished thoughts and a hint of helplessness.
Although Qiao Xi was curious about what Mu Yanzhou wanted to say, she naturally didn't ask too many questions since he had urgent business to attend to. So she said, "You go ahead and do your work. I also need to go out and take care of some things."
Mu Yanzhou gave her a deep look, then finally nodded, his voice regaining the composure of a leader: "Okay. I'll come find you when I'm done with my work."
After saying that, he hurriedly left with his subordinate, his back straight but inexplicably revealing a hint of loneliness.
Josie watched his figure disappear around the corner of the corridor, feeling a little strange, but she didn't think about it too much.
She turned around and went to attend to her own business. The base had just received a large number of new people, and there were countless things that needed her attention and handling.
However, before she could finish her work, a guard on duty at the city gate rushed over to report.
"Miss Qiao, since Chief Mu from Hope Base has left with his men, does that mean we don't need to prepare dinner for them?"
Josie paused, her hand holding the document still. She looked up, a hint of surprise flashing across her face: "Gone? When did that happen?"
The other party replied respectfully, "Yes, Miss Qiao. They seemed to have urgent business and left in a hurry. Before leaving, Chief Mu only asked us to convey his gratitude to you and Professor Fu."
Josie paused for a moment before slowly nodding: "Okay, I understand. You can go ahead and get back to work."
After the man left, Josie put down what she was holding, walked slowly to the window, and looked in the direction of the base gate.
He just left like that?
Thinking of what he hadn't finished saying, she shook her head.
I stood there silently for a while, unable to describe the feeling in my heart.
It was somewhat sudden and unexpected, but upon closer reflection, it seems... that this is for the best.
She gently stroked her still flat stomach, her gaze softening yet firm.
She is content with her current peace and happiness and doesn't need to create any more unnecessary entanglements.
Lu's mother somehow got the news and found Qiao Xi, who was busy at work.
She held her hand, her eyes crinkling with a smile, "Xixi, I heard you're pregnant? Auntie made chicken soup today, come to Auntie's house for dinner tonight."
Qiao Xi was a little troubled. Could it be that Lu's mother thought the child must be Lu Yuyang's?
