Chapter 99

Chapter 99

Indeed, over the past month, because Xie Jue was always with them, Lu Yuyang's attempts to cause trouble were constantly interrupted.

Thinking of that person's dark expression on those occasions, she couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Lu Yuyang tightened his grip on her waist, "You're still laughing..."

Before she could finish speaking, Josie tilted her head back and kissed her.

Noticing her movement, he lowered his head and captured her lips.

This kiss carried the domineering force of conquering territory, yet it was also filled with tenderness.

After a month of life-or-death struggle, the suppressed emotions burst forth like a flood.

Under the dim light, the two figures pressed close together cast swaying silhouettes on the dusty tiled wall.

Heavy breathing intertwined to form the most secret yet most fervent symphony atop the ruins.

The next morning, Lu Yuyang felt refreshed, his brows showing the relaxed satisfaction of being fully satisfied.

Xie Jue slept soundly. When he woke up, he saw his sister glaring at the man next to him.

Instead of getting angry after being glared at, Lu Yuyang's handsome features seemed to relax even more.

He had a feeling that something had happened between the two of them that he didn't know about.

"Xiao Jue, are you awake?"

Noticing that Xie Jue had woken up, Qiao Xi deliberately raised her voice slightly to remind him to be mindful of the occasion.

Lu Yuyang then stopped laughing and turned to look at the little light bulb.

Xie Jue was also staring at him, seemingly scrutinizing and appraising him.

"Now that you're awake, let's tidy up, eat something, and set off. We've been out for almost a month; it's time to go back, rest, and resupply."

This was something he and Josie had discussed that morning, and now was the perfect time to inform Xie Jue.

Xie Jue didn't know why, but he could keenly sense that there was a secret between him and Sister Xixi, and this realization made him feel somewhat uncomfortable.

The three quickly packed their bags.

After a month away, with ample food and excessive exercise, I've decided to push myself to a higher level.

Although he is not particularly tall, he already looks like a teenager and will no longer be mistaken for a child.

When they found the hidden bicycles and rode back to the safe zone, they saw humans coming and going in the safe zone.

Suddenly, I felt a sense of disorientation.

Standing on the slightly crowded but lively street, Lu Yuyang looked at Qiao Xi, who was preparing to go "home", and felt a strong sense of reluctance.

He reached out and gently grasped Josie's wrist.

“XiXi,” he said in a low voice, his fingers tightening slightly, “are you… moving in?”

He was referring to his small apartment in the safe zone.

Qiao Xi was slightly taken aback. She looked at the undisguised expectation in Lu Yuyang's eyes and remembered that she and Feng Ye had already separated.

It's really not appropriate to continue living in a house in the wilderness.

“Yes,” she nodded, her tone natural, “If your house is empty, I can stay there for a while.”

Lu Yuyang raised his eyebrows, and a smile filled his eyes.

"Of course, you can stay as long as you want."

He paused, then added, "Do you need me to help you move? Or can we go over and pack together?"

Josie looked at his face and couldn't help but smile.

But he still shook his head and refused, "No need. You've been out for a month now. Go back and see your family, let them know you're safe."

More importantly, she needed to say goodbye to Granny Chen and Wenjing.

"I'll come find you after I've packed my things and settled in."

"Alright then."

Lu Yuyang did not insist and respected her decision, saying, "Then I'll wait for you."

Anyway... there's plenty of time.

Watching his tall figure disappear into the crowd, Qiao Xi led Xie Jue towards the area where Feng Ye's family lived.

As they walked, Xie Jue suddenly asked him, "Sister, do you like him?"

The boy's question was direct and abrupt.

Josie paused slightly, a somewhat complicated smile curving her lips.

She reached out and gently ruffled Xie Jue's hair: "Xiao Jue, this is the apocalypse. Whether you like it or not... isn't the most important thing most of the time."

She gazed at the gray sky ahead, as if trying to convince herself that since she had chosen to save him and had come this far with him... she should just let things take their course.

In this world, affection is a luxury. Being able to live peacefully every day and protect the people around you is the most important thing.

Xie Jue insisted on returning to the tent area as usual. A month ago, Josie wasn't worried, let alone Xie Jue now.

Anyone who tries to take advantage of him is simply courting death.

After bidding farewell, Josie walked back to Fengye's home alone.

Standing in front of that familiar door, Josie took a deep breath before raising her hand to knock.

The door opened quickly, revealing Zhao Wenjing's delighted face. "Sister Xixi! You're back!"

As she spoke, she pulled Josie into the house.

Hearing the noise, Grandma Chen hurried out from the inner room. When she saw Qiao Xi, her cloudy eyes were filled with heartache: "Oh dear, Xi Xi is finally back! You've been gone for so long, look at your face, you've gotten so thin from hunger! Grandma will go and make you something nice to eat!"

Josie quickly stopped her, a warm feeling rising in her heart, mixed with the bittersweetness of impending parting: "Grandma, I just ate, I'm really not hungry. I... I came back today to pack my things."

She paused, her gaze unconsciously drifting towards Feng Ye's tightly closed door. She wasn't sure if he was inside, and she was even more worried that his sudden appearance would make the situation even more awkward. "Once I've finished packing... I'm moving out."

Grandma Chen's smile froze instantly, and she grabbed Qiao Xi's hand nervously: "Move away? Move to where? Xi Xi, what are you saying? Did you have a fight with Xiao Ye? Although that child is cold and doesn't talk much, Grandma can tell that he really cares about you! Xi Xi, can't you talk things out? Did he bully you? Tell Grandma! Grandma will scold him for you."

Seeing the genuine anxiety and worry in the old man's eyes, Josie felt even worse.

She grasped her mother-in-law's rough hand in return, trying to keep her tone calm and gentle: "Mother-in-law, it's not his problem. It's my problem. There are some conflicts between us that are hard to resolve."

"What conflict can't be resolved?" Granny Chen stamped her feet anxiously. "It's so rare to meet someone in this apocalypse! That kid, Xiao Ye, is just stubborn but soft-hearted. What will he do if you leave? He just left two days ago, and you've only just come back and you want to move out again..."

Josie gleaned a crucial piece of information—Fengye wasn't home!

This made her tense nerves relax a little.

“Mother-in-law,” she said, her tone more firm, “I’ve thought this through and made up my mind. If you and Wenjing ever encounter any difficulties in the future, feel free to come to me if I can help. I currently live on the fourth floor of Yuxin Garden in the south of the city.”

She gave the address of Lu Yuyang's apartment.

"Xixi! Think about it again... Don't give up on Xiaoye so easily, he's a very good kid." Grandma Chen still wanted to persuade Fengye to stay.

"Mother-in-law, you and Wenjing must take care of yourselves."

Although she didn't mention Feng Ye, her attitude was very clear.

After saying that, she turned around and pushed open the door to her room.

The room still held the scent of Fengye, and Josh's movements were somewhat mechanical.
