Chapter Eighty-Seven: Rebellion
While Lu Yuyang was busy, Qiao Xi did not stop and continued to take Xie Jue outside to train.
When she returned to her apartment building after parting ways with Xie Jue, she found Lu Yuyang standing there, seemingly having waited for her for quite some time.
"How long have you been waiting? Is there something you need?"
Lu Yuyang stepped forward and said, "I just came to let you know that I've taken care of things here and will be leaving tomorrow morning. Are you sure you can manage?"
"Yes," she said, for her, improving her strength was the most important thing.
After she finished speaking, she noticed that Lu Yuyang was still standing there and showed no sign of leaving.
She raised an eyebrow at him. "Is there anything else?"
Under the moonlight, the woman's beautiful features seemed to be filtered, and even with bloodstains on her body, she was still breathtakingly beautiful.
He smiled and shook his head, "It's alright, I'll be back after you go in."
Josie was indeed a little tired, and waved to him, "Then I'm leaving, see you tomorrow."
Lu Yuyang stood there until her figure disappeared into the corridor before slowly turning around.
But to his utter surprise, three superhumans sent by his father were waiting in the hallway.
"Miss Qiao, Captain Lu's father wants to see you." The leading man spoke respectfully, but his position blocked all escape routes.
"Lu Yuyang's father?"
"Yes, please come with us."
Josie noticed their firm stance and raised an eyebrow: "What if I say no?"
"Then we'll have to resort to some... impolite methods." The man gave a fake smile, and a ball of flame gathered in his palm.
Josie's gaze swept over the three of them, assessing their strength.
Although these three people might all be superhumans, it wouldn't be difficult for her to escape.
However, considering Lu Yuyang's father's status in the safe zone, it would be quite troublesome if she didn't go.
She has always hated trouble.
"Alright, lead the way."
After a moment's thought, she calmed down.
The expressions on their faces softened slightly, and they gestured for her to enter, saying, "Miss Qiao, please."
After passing through layers of security checkpoints, the surrounding buildings gradually changed from crowded apartment buildings to detached villas.
This is the power center of the safe zone; each house represents a privilege.
Even though she had been in the safe zone for several months, she had never set foot here.
The Lu family mansion was even more luxurious than expected, and its classic Chinese-style decor seemed out of place in the post-apocalyptic world.
Josie was led to the living room, where three superhumans stood in a triangle formation around her.
"Please sit down."
Josie calmly sat down, her gaze sweeping over the family photos hanging on the wall.
Photos of Lu Yuyang winning awards when he was a child; his handsome face at that time showed a smile that was both youthful and proud.
Looking through the photos, one could almost see Lu Yuyang's entire growth process.
His growth trajectory is the goal that others strive for their entire lives; he is outstanding to an outrageous degree.
If the apocalypse hadn't come, would he have chosen an arranged marriage or started a family with the girl he liked?
Until the delicate scent of perfume wafted into my nose.
Josie only realized belatedly that there was another person in the room.
An elegant woman in a dark green cheongsam stood at the door. When she turned around, the woman smiled gently and walked into the living room.
Even in such times, this beautiful lady's nails were still meticulously manicured, and her hair was styled in an elegant and dignified bun.
"Don't be nervous, child." Lu's mother sat down opposite Qiao Xi, her voice as gentle as a neighbor's aunt. "We know you are Yu Yang's good friend."
Josie didn't reply, she just nodded slightly.
She noticed that when Lu's mother spoke, her fingers unconsciously rubbed the edge of the teacup, which was a sign that something was on her mind.
“Before the apocalypse, Yu Yang was the only heir of the Lu family.” Lu’s mother sighed softly. “If it weren’t for this disaster, he would have taken over the family business by now and married a girl of equal social standing.”
With such an opening remark... Josie could almost guess what the conversation would entail.
"The situation is special now, and the Lu family needs more powerful allies." Lu's mother's voice remained gentle, but every word was like a knife. "Xue Wei from the Su family possesses rare healing abilities, and their family also wields considerable influence in the Northern Safe Zone..."
Josie nodded, looking directly into Lu's mother's eyes. "So, what does all this have to do with me?"
There was never any boundary between her and Lu Yuyang. In fact, because everyone was busy improving their superpowers, they only saw each other occasionally every few days.
Does Lu's mother think that Lu Yuyang and she are in a relationship?
"Auntie knows it's hard for you to accept this," she maintained her composure and elegance. "But our family also has its difficulties. If you're willing to separate from Yu Yang, we can provide you with enough supplies, and even... if you encounter difficulties in the future, we can lend a hand. What do you think?"
It must be said that Lu's mother's attitude did not offend her, and she understood their desire to protect the entire family.
Just like she vowed to live a long and good life, and to become strong enough to live as she pleases.
So she decided to grant the mother's wish, carefully choosing her words as she was about to speak.
A dignified middle-aged man suddenly appeared in the open doorway.
He walked in slowly, his gaze sharp and scrutinizing.
“Miss Qiao, I’ve seen plenty of women like you. I advise you to leave obediently and not force us to take action…”
Lu's mother immediately stood up and gave him a disapproving look, "Why did you come here?"
"This matter needs to be resolved as soon as possible,"
After he finished speaking, he didn't look at his wife, but stared into Josie's eyes. "Little girl, if you listen to us, we won't make things difficult for you, but if you don't... we have many ways to make you, or even your friends and family, disappear from this world!"
One sentence from Lu's father directly caused Qiao Xi to rebel.
Can those in positions of power easily erase the right of others to strive for survival?
Her face gradually darkened, but before she could speak, a familiar voice came from the doorway.
"You can't control me, so you're threatening Xixi?"
When Qiao Xi saw Lu Yuyang's face, his handsome face was full of disappointment, as if he had never expected his parents to be like this.
“Yu Yang, no… your dad was just bluffing him, it wasn’t true.”
Lu's mother tried to salvage the situation, but Lu's father interrupted her, saying, "If you continue to insist on your own way, I mean what I say."
Lu Yuyang ignored his father, walked a few steps to Qiao Xi's side, checked her over by pulling her arm, and seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
He then shielded her behind him, blocking his parents' view, and said, "If you lay a hand on her, I will sever all ties with the Lu family!"
"How dare you!" Mr. Lu was so angry that his hands trembled.
But Lu Yuyang didn't respond to him anymore. Instead, he took Qiao Xi's hand and walked out.
After walking quite a distance, Lu Yuyang noticed that Qiao Xi hadn't said a word, so he turned to look at her. "Were you scared? Sorry, I didn't know they would..."
